Responding to an ad for a 2006 Mustang GT on http://Cars.com last night, I sent an internet inquiry to talk with Michael Stead Cadillac, the dealer selling this car. In the online pictures the car is presented as a Ford Shelby Cobra for $20,000. Very nice looking Mustang, so when Brian left a voice message for me today, stating that it is a Cobra, I wanted to rush down to Walnut Creek, which is 80 miles from where I live in Sacramento. I called back and spoke to Chris, the internet sales manager, who confirmed that this was not a Cobra, but he went on about how meticulously the car had been maintained and adorned with stripes and Cobra emblems, and he convinced me to come down to negotiate a deal. I told him, and Brian when he called back, that I was driving down to see the car…that’s three calls from them this afternoon to get me to drive 80 miles to see the car. Guess what? I arrive at 4:00pm and as Brian approaches me at the car, he informs me that a woman is interested in the car, but no deal was pending. He never even offered to let me sit in the car. He never offered to make it right for having me drive so far for nothing. He didn’t lift a finger to sell me a car and never once apologized for what happened. In fact, he acted as if I was putting him out by asking to speak to the owner. Brian couldn’t care less. He just walked off as if my time and effort didn’t matter. He ignored me when I asked how to contact the owner. I smelled a rat. I waited a while for Chris to speak to me after he talked to Brian. I asked for the owner’s telephone number or a way to contact him three times. I never did get the contact information as Chris told me that he didn’t know how to contact the owner. I don’t know what kind of stunt or what kind of negligence these guys think is acceptable, but all I know is that they had my number to call me three times and they could have called me at any time to tell me of a pending sale before I got to Walnut Creek. At no time did they show any remorse or willingness to make me a happy customer. They did not care one bit and never tried to sell me a car. They were laughing as I drove away. I think these are disreputable people.
