A few stories concerning Monroe Ford.
1. This weekend, I discovered through my girlfriend, that Monroe Ford does NOT repair transmissions.
My girlfriend’s car starting acting strangely so she took it to her normal mechanic in Harriman, NY. He informed her that he did not have the correct software on his computer system to properly diagnosis her transmission system, so he told her she had to go to Monroe Ford.
Three hours after dropping off her car, she received a call from Monroe Ford telling her that she needs a complete transmission overhaul that would cost $3600.
After calling her mechanic in Harriman, she took his advice and decided to take the car to another mechanic who works solely on transmissions.
Upon arriving at the other mechanic, it was learned that Monroe Ford does not do any type of transmission repairs; they will always tell you that you need a complete transmission overhaul, whether it needs it or not.
2. Within 1 week of purchasing a Ford Focus in 2002 from Monroe Ford, her CD player stopped working. When she went back to Monroe Ford to get something done about it, the mechanic clerk told her it would cost $700 to replace the CD player/radio.
She spent the next hour disputing the repair because she had bought the car not even 7 days prior to the radio dying.
3. Approximately 1 year ago, she received a coupon for a free oil change from Monroe Ford. I advised her not to go there for an oil change, but she wanted to take advantage of the fact that it was free.
Immediately after getting the oil change, she traveled 1 mile down the road to get a car wash. When she arrived at the car wash, one of the guys working there noticed she had something dragging underneath her car.
The item in question that was dragging was her emergency brake cable. The guy at the car wash was kind enough to crawl under the car and re-attach it. It seems a little odd that within 1 mile of receiving a free oil change, the emergency brake cable mysteriously was dragging underneath the car.
Best advice; avoid Monroe Ford at all costs.
