Purchased a car on March 9th and traded in a car with a loan balance. It’s been over a month , numerous phone calls, left a message with the GM Jeff no return phone call, spoke to Chris in finance over the phone saying he’ll take care of it, spoke to Amy in internet saying she’ll take care of it, and personally went in on Tuesday, April 2nd and spoke to Rob in Finance saying he’ll have the car paid off by the evening. Still the car hasn’t been paid off!!! Rob from finance told us on April 2nd, that he’s having a hard time getting it paid off because the loan company can’t find the loan. My husband contacted the loan company and they have no record of them EVER CALLING!!! They have the loan number and a copy of our loan statement. What’s the hold up? I’ve had to make a payment on a car I no longer own and another payment is due!! After, being told that the car would be paid off when meeting with Rob on April 2nd and wasn’t, I then made another trip to the dealership on April 4th where Rob told me again that the loan will be paid off in 24-48 hours. Gave the dealership the time promised, called the loan company Monday, April 8th and the loan still wasn’t paid off! I then called Rob once again on Monday, April 8th from finance and told him the loan still hasn’t been paid off and he needs to look into what is happening. He told me he would call me back in a couple hours. He didn’t return my phone call and after 3 hours I called him back. He then told me they did send out the check and wait till Tuesday, April 9th @ 3pm to see if the check has been processed. I’ve called numerous times and the loan is STILL OUTSTANDING!!!! I’ve left a review on Facebook and no one has replied to my review, but can easily reply to comments that are in favor to the dealership. I don’t know what kind of shady businesses is being run over there? My trade-in is still under my name and you have it for sale and out on the lot!!! McGrath Auto is committing fraud!!! It’s been nothing, but unprofessionalism!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!
Don’t believe these reviews. They are fake. The dealers have their salesman go on these websites and write bogus reviews. These guys are pure con artists. Every stereotype about shady car dealers is true regarding this dealership. I talked to the internet sales person. DIscussed the price repeatedly. It was low, so I asked her at least a dozen times in several different phone conversations. She put me on hold, came back and said her manager approved of the price. I placed a deposit, came in with a certified check and magically the price changed by thousands. The sales girl wasnt there and somehow they couldnt get ahold of her. And surprise surprise, none of the managers recalled the conversation or the price I was given. Even though I spoke with her multiple times in the prior 48 hours. The manager consistently blamed me as if I was as fault. This is classic bait and switch. It’s illegal. These people are garbage. Stay away.
Note: We didn’t have an issue with our salesman, Sean- only the manager. My husband and I drove over an hour from the city to check out pre-owned MDX’s that we researched on line from cars.com. Our experience was less than “professional” and certainly did not live up to the “awards and status” their dealership claims on their website. First impression upon arrival- as we walked up to the entrance we overheard a salesman talking on a phone saying he needed to get a specific car for “some broad” that was waiting. We really should have turned around then. After becoming very interested in a specific MDX, we sat down with our senior salesman and started “negotiations”. Our salesman had originally quoted us a price a couple hours earlier (we left to think and test drive a few other models). He then sat down and quoted us a different price that was $1200 more claiming they had just recently reduced the price. My husband explained that they must have reduced it even more because the price on-line was even lower. Our salesman asked what website, printed out the copy, profusely apologized and said he needed to go talk to his manager. He came back to inform us that the “advertisers” had made a mistake and that the manager was reluctant, but would go ahead and honor the price?! The price we had already been quoted hours earlier! Can we say bait and switch? We made an aggressive offer and our salesman left again to consult with his manager, who, incidentally we had overheard raising his voice and being overly aggressive with a customer upon our arrival. He came back and said his manager had already “reduced” the price and was going “to have to eat that $1200!” We repeated the offer, and our salesman took off again only to come back with no counter offer and a set of keys to a different car we had already explained was not of interest whatsoever! Needless to say, we immediately walked out and headed to Joe Rizza Acura in Orland Park and had a fantastic experience!! We didn’t even mention our experience at McGrath before they offered us twice the money on our trade-in, openly negotiated with us to a comfortable price, and we drove away in an MDX later that night. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.
I bought a 05 TL 2 years ago. Subsequent calls by the dealership inquired about my MDX. I informed them recently I was unloading the car and they offered to purchase it from me. They quoted me a price, inspected the car, gave me their word, and when I returned a couple of days later with the keys and title, the used car manager–Tommy–said he gave me the wrong price, that certified predriven cars require 4 new tires (despite the fact that my tires had >20K left), etc. He knew I was there to unload the car, as I had taken off work and reserved a rental car. Typical bait and switch. So much for loyalty.
I contacted to managers who said they would look into the matter and get back to me. Neither ever called me back.
Needless to say, McGrath Acura typifies the stereotypical car dealership. Greasy, underhanded salespeople and plenty of dishonesty.
I would definitely stay away!
Since this review was posted, the manager of customer service called to apologize profusely. She offered the original price and assured me the offending employees would be dealt with. Kudos and my score moves to 3 stars.
