Classic Bait & Switch operation. Treated like a first-time car-buyer idiot. Buyer BEWARE!

PHONY ADVERTISEMENTS ON AUTOTRADER AND OTHER MUTIPLE SALE SCAMS TO GET YOU IN THE DOOR . BUYER BEWARE
99 Toyota Camry: My car stalled on the road and the radiator was over heated and something was leaking from it. I took it to Pep Boys (Beverly, NJ) and they said that the radiator & engine is bad and needs a rebuilt engine and they cant do that kinda of repair and only dealer can do it. Then I got it towed to Liberty Toyota. after a through analysis, John from the service dept called me and told me the radiator and some related parts have to be replaced and the car will work fine without any problems and the cost for the same will be $830 + tax. I asked John multiple times if he has checked the car completely and by repairing just what he said will fix the problem. he replied yes and confirmed that no other repairs need to be done in order for it to run smoothly. since he is the expert in mechanics i took his word for it. he also gave me a timeframe of 3-4 hrs for repair after which I can pick up my car. he also gave me a discount and told my final bill is $796 including tax. I said, and based on his expert opinion & assurance, if thats all it takes to fix the car only then he can proceed with the repairs. He agreed.
John calls me later in the evening and tells me that there needs additional parts and the engine has to be entirely replaced and it will now cost me more than $3100. I argued with him that that is not what we talked in the morning and he had assured me that there is no problem with the engine. now he is flipping his statement.
he says, i have to pay $796 and take the car that is not even running or fixed. I dont think i have to pay $796 to learn that my car needs a $3100 repair. :devil(
Received a 110% buy back offer in the mail. Dealer never honored. Turned-in leased vehicle 2 months early, and still had to make the last 2 payments. Dealer claimed negative equity in the leased vehicle. How do you have negative equity in a lease??
Went back several times to try to resolve – but given the cold shoulder each time.
Took about 7 hours to finally go home with the vehicle. Absolutely no consideration of my time.
Salesman kept adding things that we didn’t want saying, “Just wait, you’ll like the price”.
My opinion is:
Sales person was terrible.
Financing department was terrible.
Was promised a $500 gas redemption card – never delivered.
I deeply regret buying a car from this dealership.
Recommendation: Avoid this dealership at all costs.
Great experience from start to finish! I highly recommend Liberty Toyota for both sales and service! 🙂
