I surprised my wife with a new SUV, and she was ecstatic! Myrtle Beach Kia surprised us both by ruining the day.
We arrived at the dealership to complete the paperwork – price and financing were pre-negotiated – then waited one and a half hours, totally exhausted and famished, with no food since breakfast, to complete a 15 minute transaction, rather than allowing us to take the vehicle home and return Friday. If I had alternate transportation we would have walked. The business manager remarked derisively, “It’s your money,” when I declined the gap insurance; at that point I was in no mood to discuss or negotiate anything with anybody at that dealership. We finally got into the car to leave as the dealership was closing at 8:00 PM.
The fact that I was left waiting outside the airport for two hours with no communications was a combination of factors largely beyond MB Kia’s control, and forgivable. Our treatment inside the showroom was not.
The memory of that day and that place will take a long time to fade.
