I had a wonderful experience buying a pre-owned car from Augusta.
I live in New York. I knew exactly the car I wanted, a 2000-2003 Lexus LX470. I knew I wanted the lowest mileage I could get and I needed to hit a certain price point. I test drove one in Queens and one in New Jersey. Then I went on cars.com and found Augusta. They had a 2000 with 53,000 miles for $20,000. I called up and stated my parameters. I said, “If this seems impossible, please tell me. I don’t want to waste your time and I don’t want to waste my time.” I spoke with Codie Mitchell. We proceeded to have a terrific dialogue, mostly over text, about what was realistic, how this would work, what the best price was, trade-in values. Through it all, Codie was wonderful.
My friends and family all said it was too good to be true. “Be careful.” they said. “It must be a scam.” they said. But I had faith in Codie. I flew down to Virginia and Codie picked me up at the airport. He drove me back to the dealership and the car was even more amazing than the pictures had indicated. It was beautiful. There were no hidden costs. There was nothing unexpected.
Codie understood that I had a long drive back to New York and got me through the process within a half hour.
But here is the real story. About 60 miles into my drive, the check engine light came on. I thought to myself, “My friends were right! It was a scam! It’s going to explode!” I called Codie. Understand that legally, he had no obligation to me at this point. But he walked me through going to a Pep Boys, getting the car checked out and getting the part I needed. He then said, “You hang on to the receipts, and we will take care of it. This was not intentional and you should not have to deal with it.”
I was so relieved. Clearly, it was the right thing to do, but that is not always synonymous with what is done.
The experience I had with Augusta was positive from the moment I found the car on cars.com to the moment I arrived home and showed my family our new car.
I highly recommend working with Codie and Augusta. They understand the importance of a positive reputation, of doing the right thing, of being forthright and of walking you through the entire process, ensuring that you are comfortable the whole time.
