Bare with the story as it is long, but trust me you’ll be happy I warned you with it all!
Wow and 😡 is about all I can do when I think of the experience we had with Gurley Leep Kia. First of all we visited them first after doing an online inquiry to them and Tyler Kia in Niles. Well we arrive and I’ll admit they didn’t rush out to talk to us our ask us to come in which was nice…but that’s about where it stops. We finally did head in just to talk options and such and we go to the pricing game one day and he said the best they could do was like 27,171 or something close to that…supposedly right at invoice (which they showed us a supposed “invoice”) and that they aren’t making any money at all from selling it to us. I freaking laughed at this! I said if that was the case you guys wouldn’t pay electric, bills or shoot even be able to wash the cars so stop the charade and be honest, you get a kick back from Kia for every car you sell. Scott responded with…it takes a lot of cars, somewhere in the range of 20 cars a salesperson or something that before we get significant kick backs (in my head I caught that he said significant and not any at all).
I simply responded with you said significant kick backs, so you do get some? Significant is a word that could mean one thing to you and totally different thing to us…He didn’t really have much to say except he can promise us we wouldn’t get a better price elsewhere. I said fine, what if we pay in cash full? Answer….absolutely doesn’t make a difference….I was like WTF?! So I made a lowball offer of like $25,500 I think which was declined by the “manager” and we said we were gonna look elsewhere and would possibly get back to them. Scott’s asked me to call him before any purchase was made so he can try to beat it…I said sure I can do that.
So we go up to Tyler Kia in Niles, MI….and man did we get treated nice! Dell was the rep we talked to and he was extremely nice, and honest! He explained that with every single Kia he sells he earns the dealership points and himself some as well and depending on the points is the scale Kia pays them back…so he said if we have to dip down to invoice or slightly below..it may not matter if we’ve sold enough vehicles that kick back period (no clue what that period is though). So they had the color my wife liked, but their’s didn’t come with the convienience package (heated seats, remote start, rear camera display and rear backup sensors) however their price was 26,620 and they let us keep the vehicle for a night to test it out and drive it some!!!! (we live nearly 30 miles from the dealer even!).
So on our way home I call Scott and explain we’re pretty set on buying this car and he proceeds to ask questions and everything and all of sudden he’s like what if I get you the same car you’re in plus Convience Package for $26,800…I said sold if you do it. Well he says manager okay’d it come in tomorrow and we’ll do the paperwork….
Do paperwork and fast forward to the friday we pick up car….he quick rushes through the information on the car, links our phones and says congrats and bye in like 15 minutes….well wife calls me from the car and is like this is not the vehicle we were promised….no back up camera….no sensors….no heated seats….no remote start and it has a 3rd row of seats which the one in Tyler had but Gurley Leep’s wasn’t supposed to! Come to find the frick out…the Sorento was the same exact one from Tyler!!!! We were pissed and I called Scott immediately and we set up a time for my wife to come in (with her father because I was out of town) to straighten it all out.
Well they got really shitty and refused to get us the convenience package and offered to only pay us a little (like $700) or put remote start and heated seats in…bunch of BS!!!! We did go with remote start and heated seats option but made dang sure they knew we weren’t happy and that they are the most crooked dealership we’d ever dealt with…needless to say I’ll recommend Tyler Kia anyday and only Gurley Leep to my enemies!!
