I was on convalescent leave because I had fractured my foot. Therefore, out of work. Over the years, I had received numerous flyers from Gary Mathews. Since I had ‘won’ a prize and had the time, I decided to hear what they ‘had to sell’ (Never had the opportunity to try ‘the key’)
Before I knew it, they had me in a car. As a single parent, sole provider, barely scraping by? I couln’t believe it!!! I was every bit excited. That is, until I saw how much it would cost me to insure a ‘financed’ (new) car. That didn’t matter to them. Because they informed me that I was ‘bond by their contract” Over $700/month for both insurance and auto payments. I didn’t even earn that in one week’s pay when I did work.
So, I was stuck and worried sick. They tossed the keys and told me to take it home. I even drove it to Lousiville, KY where I attended National Guard duty. The vehicle was not one bit aerodynamic, was a horrible ride, and not fuel efficient.
Then, all the creditors started sending me confirmation for ‘applying with their credit/bank. What? Gary Mathews was sending credit approval requests to every creditor under the sun. OMG! They told me to tell the creditors, if they called, that I was on ‘convalescence’ which, in a sense, I was; but that was misleading, right? I wasn’t pregnant, it was a broken foot.
I was worried sick! I couldn’t sleep, eat, and got walking pnemonia from the ordeal. Three children and not one out of school yet, it’s was horrific.
So, I called a freind from waaaay back who own’s his own automotive dealership, in another state. A multi-millionaire now. That’s the first time, I learned, that the supposed contract but a “Retail Installment Sales Contracts, or RISCs.” See, Gary Mathews doesn’t finance. They send it off to banks and ‘sell’ the contract. It’s complicate, unethical, and predatory.
Once I learned this very valuable tid-bit of information. I had a neighbor follow to Gary Mathews. When I arrived, the ‘financeer’ used bully tactics, inferred ‘that we already talked about that’ and ‘it’s a done deal.’
Because I was now ‘armed with knowledge’ and informed that I have every right to simply drop the keys on the table and there wasn’t a darn thing they could do about it? I did just that, walked out, and rode off. And never heard another word from them (but continued to get letters in the mail for weeks from creditors and banks).
I never even got the ‘free gift’ because that was a scam. Evidentally, someone had bought into those ‘create a shopping mall’ on-line which afforded me a ‘much lower discount’ on items. Pfffft! The ‘magic key’ was forgotton, completely.
Today, another of their flyer arrived. I won!!! Imagine that! When I asked about the ‘guarnteed prizes’ the ‘automated canned verbage’ informed me that the lotto ticket was ‘up to $1,500.” Hmmmm?
At a new location and still piggy backing off the military and innocents. The military installation really ought to black list this auto-dealership. Go to yahoo to read the horror stories about their parts and services. Be warned. You’ve got yourself to blame if you fall under their spell.
