Pre-Cert used is what I went in there for. I’ve never shopped for a vehicle before but I’ve researched a lot of information for many days before stepping foot into the dealership. I sent an e-mail requesting information and asked that they only e-mail me and not call with further information, which they did not do. Luckily, I left a bunk number that was disc. prior to sending the e-mail to avoid such tactics. I came in a little strong and went to the floor. Instead of the sales person Sean Bier-Hobbs being nice at what I was trying to offer he laughed in my face, which intimidation tactics aren’t always great. He pretty much was very unwilling to haggle and shot down about 5 of my different offers. Meanwhile, he never really offered me anything except lame things like a couple or few hundred off. I tried throwing out there after the test-drive $500 off and he said he “might” be able to talk to his manager about it blah blah. I didn’t have a great experience because like other reviews they know they can sucker someone in who will be less informed. Best of luck on your experience.
Dear Michael,
Thank you for your honest impression of your visit to our dealership. I am sorry the experience did not go well for you and I thought I would share the experience from the other side.
Having reluctantly joined the car business many years ago, it is frustrating to me when people imply that we are all here to cheat you, it is simply not the case. Fox Motors has been the best store and ownership I have personally experienced and focuses on treating customers right. That being said, I know some factors none of us control can be frustrating.
Michael, you mentioned this was your first car buying experience and as such was a learning experience I’m sure. With all the information out there, it can be difficult to understand pricing, incentives, and discounting between new and used, domestic and import, not to mention some of the challenges with in demand cars and trade-ins. The Internet tries to teach hard and fast rules as a way to win negotiating. To win, both sides must be satisfied with the end result.
What often makes this a challenge is that clients view the relationship as adversarial. You yourself mention, “I came in a little strong.” I am sorry if you felt I laughed at your offer(s), it may have been an honest reaction but I should have shown you more respect. It can become frustrating to us when clients make offers in an aggressive fashion, and that do not take current market conditions into account.
Import vehicles often do not have the markup that domestic vehicles have and used vehicles vary greatly. While I seek to help every client be confident in the price they pay for their vehicle, sometimes expectations do not match reality. While many believe salespeople are in control of pricing, often we are only trying to help our clients land on a number we know is fair in today’s market. For some cars that may be sticker, for others it may involve significant rebates or discounts.
Michael, I apologize to you personally if you felt we were unwilling to work with you. Many of our clients experienced the increased price pressures on the Hyundai and Kia products especially in the pre-owned market. The values on certified Sonatas rose and fell over four thousand dollars during 2011. We hope that continued research helped you regain confidence in the Fox brand and that we can serve you in the future.
Wife went in and checked out a 2011 Elantra Limited. Wife inidcated no pressure from the sales men. Our previous FOX Honda had a very extreme pressure sale. I was hoping this location would not.
They did……Called to talk to see if he could find me a car. Agent would not even look up to see what was available without me coming in to talk numbers. Told him I could be there around 5:30 or 6. He says great I’ve got you down for 5….Attempting to already control the situation? Maybe.
Show up at 5:30, get brought into his office, sit for 5 minutes….comes in I ask if I can see the demo elantra. he says it’s already sold. but will check on it 8 minutes not bad shows up and says it’s outside. Lucky me I could buy this one! But there was the issue the interior was horrible tan and black. Wife already indicated to me and him this would not be one we were interested in.
I did not get the full run down until about the 7th question. No big deal to me, I already had read and reviewed the specs. He had another customer come in so I was allowed out on my drive solo.
Came back in and waiting for about 5 minutes while he was on the phone. But when I took the chance to call my wife he quickly wrapped up to get me back in.
Finally we go to numbers. Internet price showed 20800. On the old 4 square block he showed the price at 20845. I had already got a quote from a registered truecar.com dealership for 19571. I showed this and the smile went away. After two visits to the “pit” he came back saying he wanted my buisness but the most he could take off was 300 dollars. As he had to make some profit. The dealer invoice for these cars is documented at around 18,900. He might as well have told he knew he could make a fat profit on the car and didn’t have to match my price.
He denied the factory invoice price. But forgot while bad mouthing my existing dealer quote, he showed me there car listings they had available. But he seem to not notice they had also listed the MSRP and dealer invoice on that sheet. A 3K dollar variance.
I did not haggle any longer as FOX clearly knows they can hussle someone else to pay the asking price. They do not try to push volume as much as they do the elevated prices.
Read the great article about car salesmen exposed on edmunds.com to get all the tactics FOX uses. I happily purchased a 2011 Elantra limited in the setup I wanted for 1300 below fox’s price. All without any haggling. Shop around and do your research!
Horrible customer service! I bought a 2011 Sonata with the agreement that Fox would put a sunroof in it and I trusted Fox with my car. I went to pick up my car and it was filled with mistakes made from their contracted company, which they did not tell me they were using. There is water leaking into the car, parts are falling off, the headliner is not attached & is unglued, the glass shakes & it sounds like I’m driving with a window down. I went in 2 times to get it fixed & it wasn’t. The general manager at Fox told me to give him my keys and he’ll make sure the contracted company does it right the 3rd time around. I did not agree to this because I am not giving my new car to the same people who obviously don’t know what they are doing. So when I didn’t agree to this, I was told to get out of his office and he physically grabbed my shoulder to usher me out of his office & he threatened me by calling the police. Another manager’s solution at Fox Hyundai was to trade in my car and get a new Sonata with no sunroof & pay $55 more per month. So I’m suppose to pay for this mistake? WOW. Finally, I was told never to step foot on the premises & 1 of the defective parts would be mailed to me. That is not customer service. THEY PROMISED ME A SUNROOF (MY ONLY REQUIREMENT) IN ORDER TO MAKE THE SALE AND WHEN THEY LIED AND CONTRACTED IT OUT, AND IT CAME BACK WITH DEFECTS, THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT AND TREATED ME WITH ABSOLUTELY NO DISRESPECT!
This dealership lies from the moment you walk into the door. Asked for the price of a particular vehicle and the sales person quote me a price higher than what was in the sticker. Wasted 3 hour negotiating a price and finally came to an agreement, but when it was time to sign the contract the dealer changed the price of the car raising it $2000. Will never return to this dealership.:mad::mad:
