STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. I brought my 2013 VW Beetle Convertible in on January 10th for an Oxygen Sensor replacement. When they told me the car was ready, they gave me the keys, I went to start it and it wouldn’t start, but the windows were randomly going up and down, the car was locking and unlocking itself and the lights were randomly flashing. Wow they said… wow I said, didn’t you check this before giving back to me? We don’t know whats wrong they said, and we don’t know what we’re going to do to fix it either. Gave me a rental, said it was a programming error. Picked up car next day, got it home and couldn’t open the trunk and the doors would only open sometimes, and my other key fob wouldn’t work at all. Brought it back, they said… “oh yea we’re not surprised the 2nd key fob didn’t work” but nobody bothered to tell me that on the first 2 visits. Programmed key fobs, said car was fine and I took it home. Got home, couldn’t open the trunk and doors wouldn’t open again. Took it back AGAIN. This time is said I don’t want it back till fixed! It is now February 8th and I still don’t have my car back, they have replaced the body control module, the kesse module, now have ordered 2 new key fobs, ps they don’t know what is wrong with it, they don’t know how to fix it, they won’t give me a new car or an extended warranty. When I asked for the extended warranty (since the car is less than 1 year old with 9400 miles on it), the sales manager Josh said “that will NEVER happen”, and that the dealership is NOT responsible for the product they sell, they are just there to facilitate sale. OMG YOUR KIDDING RIGHT??? The service manager lied to me when I told him I would investigate the Florida Lemon law, he told me if I did that he would stop working on my car…, and I was treated with no respect, and very condescendingly. So now, I have reported this dealership to VW of America where an executive team is looking into this mess for me, and I am in the process of reporting them to the Better Business Bureau also, for poor customer care and treatment. I hope they fine the HELL out of this dishonest and disreputable dealership. If I ever do get my car back (I have my doubts), I will never set foot in this dealership again, rather I will travel 30 additional miles to get my car serviced. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING PURCHASING A VW… STAY CLEAR OF PORT CHARLOTTE HONDA VOLKSWAGEN.
I found the salesman Yves at 973-953-5235 very helpful. He found a safe, comfortable and affordable car for my 8th month old and I to be in everyday. The pricing was good and I would say to try him because he helped me out as much as he could. Call him and set an appointment to see what he can do for you.
On Monday, 8/6/12, I made an appointment for a required 30000 mi service check to be done on 8/8/12. I drove from Sebring, FL to Port Charlotte, FL and arrived promptly. On arrival I was told that the service department would not do the work because the car was still under warranty and no warranty work would be allowed until Friday, 8/10/12 and my apointment was cancelled. I made the service manager aware of the fact that travel time alone was 3 hours round trip and asked that they complete the service and was refused with no suggestion or offer that my time or gas would be reimbursed. Just an “oh so sorry, new management rule; make a new appointment”. Love my car, hate the dealership.
Charlotte Honda is the most dishonest dealership I have been to since I bought my first car 40 years ago. Because of past driving experiences, I wanted to purchase a car with the new safety feature, stability control. I told the saleswoman numerous times I wanted stability control. I indicated to the saleswoman that I thought the car I was purchasing had stability control and I drove off the lot thinking I had purchased a car with stability control. Two days later, I discovered the car did not have stability control. Based on my subsequent dealings with Charlotte Honda, I would classify this dealership as slick and well-practiced at evading unhappy customers.
Things to watch for:
1. Charlotte Honda removed the window sticker from the car I purchased. It is illegal for the dealer to remove the sticker. According to the Federal Trade Commission, only the customer may remove the window sticker. This should be reported to the FTC and to the Attorney General of the state of Florida. Both have online complaint forms.
2. Charlotte Honda charges a dealer prep fee of $598 which is pre-printed on the purchase order. Do an online search for expert opinion of this fee.
3. When you negotiate a price, the dealer may scribble numbers down on a blank piece of paper without labeling what the amounts include. If you find this confusing, ask for their form that has labels on it.
4. I was charged $400 for car registration and received a refund check of $13.60. The state charged $310.65 for the registration. This leaves $77.75 unaccounted for.
5. I was asked to sign a hand-written statement “IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT, I WILL BUY THE CAR”. Add “PROVIDED ALL FEES ARE DISCLOSED UP FRONT” and ask the manager to sign. I only found out about the dealer prep fee after a price was agreed upon.
6. I was quoted monthly payment prices for the service contract based not on the 60-month loan I was applying for but for 100 payments. Ask for the full price. These contracts are cancelable; you need to sign a request form. Canceling my contracts took two visits to the dealership, 18 phone calls, and four months and involved both missing refund money and missing sales tax.
Get everything in writing or use a tape recorder. This will eliminate situations where it is one person’s word against another.
If you have a complaint with Charlotte Honda, take notes and keep a log of phone calls. If you have a hard time reaching a manager, call American Honda customer service and file a complaint. They will pass the complaint on to Charlotte Honda who must respond. If you cannot resolve your complaint directly with Charlotte Honda, you can file a complaint with the Florida Division of Motor Vehicles. This is the agency which issues dealership licenses. You will find a complaint form on their web site.
