I called this Chantilly Land Rover off a Autotrader ad & spoke with Richard Grzesiak about a 2006 Range Rover they had for sale. He came off as a nice guy with much knowledge on Range Rover’s. He mentioned his 20 years there much in service during our conversation so I knew he would lead me to the right truck. I felt I could trust him even after reading the reviews on this website. To my surprise the Range Rover was in excellent shape and in better condition then I thought. Richard also let me talk with the customer who traded it in on a new Rover and that really put me at ease. I can not say enough good things about them and have sent a coworker to purchase there also.
After months of searching for the perfect LR3, we found the vehicle we wanted online at Jaguar Land Rover of Chantilly. They were extremely helpful over the phone and when my wife drove 5 hours to purchase they were again very helpful.
The navigation system was not working when she was ready to leave the dealership so the salesman, Kenny Roberts said that if the DVD didn’t load on the ride home, he would send her a new one. It also didn’t have an owners manual and again Kenny told her he would look for one and mail it.
Needless to say the navigation system was still not working so I emailed Kenny. After a week of no reply, and I emailed again. No reply, so I called and got his voice mail. No call back, so I called again. Finally I took it to my local Land Rover dealer and was told that the wrong DVD was loaded into my Land Rover. The idiot installed a Jaguar DVD.
When I didn’t hear back after 3 weeks of trying to get some to help me I asked for the used car sales manager. Rob did call me back that afternoon and said that he had a Land Rover DVD on his desk and he would get it over nighted to me. Well, here we are 5 days later and no DVD.
If you decide to buy from a car from Kenny at Jaguar Land Rover of Chantilly be prepared to be lied to and then never called back again. And if you get his sales manager, Rob, you can expect the same. This dealership does not value your long term business, they just want the car sold today.
I live near Chicago and flew to Virginia to purchase a 2008 Range Rover HSE. What a complete waste of time.
Prior to the purchase, I specified that I wanted a late-model, non-smoking Range Rover, no crash damage, and was willing to spend extra to get the options I wanted. I thought purchasing a pre-owned vehicle from a luxury car dealership like this would minimize risk in terms of getting a lemon vehicle with hidden problems. How wrong I was.
The tactics this dealer uses to sell vehicles are worse than a shady corner used car lot.
Upon thorough inspection, everything on the 2008 RR looked up to snuff. The carfax was clean, one owner, etc…It drove fine with the exception of some brake noise which the salesman told me was tire dressing accidentally sprayed on the rotors.
I went ahead with the purchase and started the long drive back home. Upon returning home, the following happened within 2 weeks:
1) The brake noise got worse. Took it to the brake shop and they discovered a cracked left-front rotor. The technician informed me that a serious accident would result if the rotor failed while driving. He was surprised that a reputable dealer would sell the vehicle with a dangerous problem like this. Cost – $600 for 4 new rotors.
2) I was driving on the highway and noticed something hitting the windshield. I pulled over to discover paint was coming off the front of the hood and bumper!! Took it to a collision repair center the next day and was informed that a “quick and dirty” repair was recently done to cover some hidden damage to the hood and bumper. The bumper cover and the front of the hood was covered in hard bondo putty that according to the shop was not fully dry yet!! As the putty was drying, it cracked the paint and the paint started flaking off of the flexible bumper cover. This undisclosed hidden damage cost me $2600.00 to repair
3) When I went to pickup the vehicle, it was sitting in the shade….I should have known it was heavily smoked in. This shady dealership must have applied some sort of temporary odor killer, because the first time the RR sat in the sun a few days later, it immediately reeked of smoke. I have had the RR detailed, ozoned, and fogged 3 times and the smoke smell is almost gone. Cost so far is $300.00
4) I was promised a second ignition key for the vehicle. The salesman said there was a mixup with another vehicle and that they would mail me the second key. After a month of no returned emails or phone calls it is obvious I am not going to get my key. I called a local Land Rover dealership to purchase another key and was informed this would cost over $500 for a new key and programming the vehicle!!.
5) Three of the tires were cut/punctured and repaired with plugs. The tire pressure warning went off after a few weeks. The cost of a set of tires for a RR with 20-inch wheels is $1500.00
Jaguar Land Rover of Chantilly does a lot of business on the internet. If you do decide to purchase a pre-owned vehicle from them (good luck) have it inspected by a professional no matter what before you give them any money. They seem to sell a lot of New York area off-lease Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. Many of these vehicles have problems like mine that will not show up on carfax reports. Pay particular attention to body damage, hidden repairs, brakes/tires, smoking, missing items such as keys, etc…
In summary avoid this dealer like the plague. They lied strait to my face and sold me a $50K vehicle with numerous hidden, expensive, and dangerous problems. This is utterly absurd treatment for a vehicle of this caliber and I have learned a good lesson.
Regardless of appearance, Jaguar Land Rover of Chantilly is just another lying car dealer that gives the good guys a bad name. You have been warned!!
