February of last year (2018) my wife and I pre-purchased a factory-ordered Jeep Renegade Sport through Lee Auto Mall in Westbrook, Maine.
The vehicle that the dealership presented to me was a mess. There was a strange white powder on the passenger side of the dash; there was pet hair all over the upholstery. The paper floor mat was mangled and torn. But I needed to get home to pick up my 5-yr old granddaughter from school and didn’t have the time to question, nor remedy, these issues with the dealership.
When I picked up my granddaughter at school, I asked her how she liked the new Jeep and she said to me, sitting in the back seat, “Grampy, it smells bad.” Five-year-old children tell it like it is.
I found additional problems; there were scrapes and scratches on the plastic trim in the cargo area and there was broken stitching on the front passenger seat. Adding it all up, it was obvious that Lee Auto Mall had allowed dogs into the interior of my new, factory-ordered vehicle before I ever sat in it for the 1st time. I suspect a homeless individual spent the night in it with her pets. The driver’s seat was in a reclined position.
Lee Auto Mall failed to exercise reasonable care and their negligence resulted in property damage to my vehicle which they have not taken responsibility for, nor compensated me for, though I have repeatedly asked for monetary compensation.
Their offer to clean the vehicle is grossly insufficient considering the damage that was done to it; and done under their watch—I insist vehemently on compensation, on a payment from them. I demand that Lee Auto Mall make me whole! Property damage is a crime. But they won’t admit culpability and have not paid me a cent. Lee Auto Mall is treating me like garbage; so how will they treat you when you suffer similar harm from them? Do you even want to buy a new car that may have been sleeping quarters for the homeless? And pets?
