I leased a vehicle from First Hyundai in May of 2011. My initial experience, aside from the expected and usual sales pressure, was fairly positive (if there is such a thing when buying a new vehicle). That all changed within a brief period. I had purchased aftermarket insurance which was included in my lease payments and then decided to cancel. Was told all that all I needed to do was sign a form. Two and half months later, I’m still trying to get this straightened out. Dealership received check from insurance company, but my lease account has not been credited. After another 5 or 6 faxes/phone calls, I’m told to speak with officer manager who does NOT return my calls. My opinion of First Hyundai went from rather good to very bad. I would NOT recommend them to anyone.
WARNING: BAIT AND SWITCH!!! DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICES!!! STAY AWAY!!!! A few days ago (8/2011), we were calling around to Hyundai dealerships for prices on a new Accent. We found this dealership and the Internet Sales Rep seemed great- very nice and courteous. We negotiated with him and came to a verbal agreement over the phone for us to purchase an Accent that they had on the lot. Our verbal agreement was detailed: we wrote down the purchase price, down payment required, interest rate and all applicable taxes and fees. We had a final out-the-door number and a final monthly payment number. We ran these numbers through an online calculator to verify them. We agreed to come down to the dealership in 2 hours to sign papers and pick up the car.
When we arrived, the agent we’d been talking to had gone home and had lined up someone else to close the deal with us. We asked to verify the numbers with him and he gave us a higher monthly payment number than what we were quoted over the phone. We said there must be a mistake, we’d verified all the numbers and we asked to see an itemized list of the charges. Then the Finance Manager came over with that list. There were nearly $600 worth of unexplained charges with vague names on the list! We asked him what those charges were for and he became evasive and belligerent. When I insisted on knowing what those charges were for, he yelled at me, telling me to “Settle Down, Ma’am!” even though I was calm but firm. It was surreal. He kept yelling at me.
He finally claimed that one of the charges was for a “window coating” that they put on all of their cars. That’s bogus. The other charge he didn’t even TRY to explain! He just refused to answer me. He finally agreed to take those charges off and went into the back office to print up a new list. Then he came back and said “We’re not going to do this deal.” He refused to sell us the car at the price we’d agreed to over the phone!
So, we gathered our things to walk out. As we were leaving with our children, the Finance Manager and some other big man behind the counter sneered and verbally mocked us as we left saying “Oh yeah, nice not selling you a car today!” I was absolutely disgusted by the way we were treated.
To top it all off, we’d already given them our credit card number for a $1500 down payment on the car and THEY CHARGED OUR CREDIT CARD $1500 for a car they refused to sell us!!!! I called the President of the company (who claimed to have no knowledge of the incident, ha!) and he said he’d “look into it.” Every time I’ve called since, he’s been “in a meeting.” I’ve left voicemail and he won’t return my phone calls. I’ve reported them to the Better Business Bureau and the FTC. I’m calling the AG next. Stay far, far away from this dealership. It’s places like this that give car dealerships and salesmen such a bad rap. Horrible, absolutely disgusting.
Will not recomend and will never return.. STAY AWAY this dealership is shady and disrespectful.
I was extremely upset by how I was treated by this dealership. After high pressure to buy now , I felt I negotiated well for a lease . They agreed to my terms because I said I would buy that day . I put down my downpayment and was to take delivery the next morning. The next morning when I came to pick up my car all excited, they told me the salesperson had made a mistake and that he had clicked the wrong button on the computer and that the terms they had agreed to were for a 71 mo lease ( is there such a thing) vs the 36 mo lease I had agreed to . I had agreed to a 15K lease and they asked me to take a 12K lease instead and then asked me to pay for the excise tax on the car . I said I would compromise and pay about 8 dollars more a month but I needed the 15K lease and I wanted the car we had agreed on instead of a lesser trim model . Then after analyzing his computer screen the salesperson said that he cant do that and needed to ” pass on the offer” we had already agreed on . I feel this was illegal and if not illegal highly unethical business practices . What a waste of time and effort . beware
This dealership is so deceitful in their sales practices. !! We wanted to buy a car, so we put the deposit down. They lied to us about taking care of the excise tax on our lease, didn’t deliver the car in time and when we got it it had 1000 miles on it. We got a much better deal elsewhere. They were so furious that we didn’t take the car that Sam Dawood, the manager, said they will not return our deposit of $3638 until he sold the car we didn’t take even if it took a year to sell it. This is illegal!! He didn’t care!! SPEAD THE WORD – STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP AND TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS TO STAY AWAY.
I have an update to my post of Feb 2010. We contacted the police and they deemed it was LARCENY – plain and simple!!! First Hyundai had no choice but to give us back all our money in full!! If they hadn’t complied, they would have been served a summons to go to court. I wouldn’t refer this dealership to anyone. Stay away, they promise one thing and then do the opposite. The manager even told the police officer that he would return our money in two days and when the two days passed, he said he wouldn’t give it back which proves that he even “yes’d” the police officer and then didn’t comply. Don’t trust them.
