The vehicle we purchased was a trade-in, nearly new, very very low miles just barely out of the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. Two days after purchase, the first time the vehicle was taken on a long trip, a major breakdown occurred. The car was under a 30-day warranty through the dealership so we immediately called them. They said to take it to the Toyota dealer for repairs as they were not trained, equipped or certified to work on brake systems (obviously a safety issue) and they would pay the bill. Took the car to my local dealer, they called Westown after inspecting the vehicle and told them that when the car was last serviced (which was done at Westown) it appeared the wrong fluid had been used in the brake reservoir and had destroyed all of the working parts, all of the seals, lines, calipers (two of which were already spewing fluid everywhere), master cylinder, etc. The repair estimate was $2000. Westown refused to pay the bill and instead towed it to their dealership and had a tire and lube tech (not a certified mechanic) fumble through changing only the parts that had completely blown the seals and put it back together with this temporary band-aid solution – obviously just enough to get them past the 30 day mark on their so-called “warranty”. The car sat in the shop for a week as the time on the warranty was ticking away. Throughout this ordeal, the staff of Westown Ford was downright rude and entirely unprofessional. It seems I will now spend thousands more out of my own pocket replacing damaged parts, one by one, that they chose to ignore to save a buck. Their warranty is not worth the paper it is written on and their smiles and handshakes at the time of sale won’t do you any good when your car is falling apart days later! I will NEVER do business with Westown Ford ever again and no one I know will ever do business there again. I hope it was worth it to save a small amount of money in the short term (by not honoring their warranty) only to lose a lifetime of future customers. Thanks for NOTHING, Westown Ford.
