Sells autos WITHOUT catalytic converters – did not inform purchaser. While it is not against the law to SELL a car without a catalytic converter, it is ILLEGAL to drive that same car on the street!
Issued an insurance policy ($2,700.00 extra) to cover repair of big ticket items, however, the policy specifically EXCLUDES modified autos. Rip Off? An after market lowering kit applied to the auto by previous owner so you could tell that it was “modified”. Discovered no catalytic converter when taken to VW dealer for repairs.
Insurance Company cancelling policy, HOWEVER NO ONE WHISPER OF A REFUND, PRO RATED OR OTHERWISE.
I WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM THIS DEALER – BUYER BEWARE!
After wondering and researching what my next used car should/would be, it came down to a very specific model (Altima coupe with all the trimmings). This narrowed my search down to a car but none were in my city (St. Louis) and the ones I found in the neighboring states were being bought the day I was calling about them. I found Jabaay online at Cars.com and they had a real beauty, with very low miles and at a great price.
Mama didn’t raise no fool so I did as much background on them as I could and deferred to my auto sales friend who works for a Nissan dealership. Everything came in as clean as can be expected for a used dealer (haters gonna hate). I spoke with Paul on the phone and told him I was interested and wanting to drive up there to look at it that Saturday. He was very laid back, cooperative (we even discussed delivery options), but what shocked me most was his willingness to take it to a mechanic for me to do a used vehicle inspection before I even showed up. After the inspection, I called the mechanic and he gave it the green light except that it most likely needed a new battery.
Paul got a me battery at the dealer price without charging for installation, was great about knocking a few bucks off the price and wrapping everything up the day I arrived to look at it. Back in St. Louis I took it to my friend’s Nissan dealership service department (to cross the T’s and dot the I’s) and they verified that everything was in fact good.
As I am a strong online researcher I wanted to wait to post this review til after the Nissan service guys got a look at it and I had driven it for a couple of weeks. Jabaay and Paul provided a great experience to what many out of state buyers would refer to as risky business (this did all go down in less than three days!). I’d highly recommend them and their vehicles. Thanks guys!
Sincerely,
One relieved and happy new used owner.
Don’t go here
No wonder why there’s so many cars on their lot. It’s not the economy, it’s these dillweeds. More of a reason to buy from a “big dealership”. smh
I have bought several cars from jabaays. 01 corvette, 01 acura cl, 06 f150, 01 levis rx350. All cars were priced fair and were all very reliable for me. I recommend them over any other dealer I have purchased from. They have taken care of me. You cant expect not to have problems when you buy a used vehicle. You cant blame the dealer if you have problems.
BUYER BEWARE OF WORST EVER DEALERSHIP IN MY OPINION! We bought our 2004 chevy trailblazer on fri. 1-1-12. The price was on average for such vehicle. The check engine light came on within 3 hrs of purchase. That’s when we realized the gas cap was not the correct one for our vehicle. I figured that’s why I smelled gas! I bought a new gas cap frome Ridgeway Chevy the next day for $24. Monday I called Paul & told him to check that on vehicles for future referance. Before the first week was over I still smelled gas & brought it to Ridgeway Chevy to check it out & tell me what it was. They did & proceeded to let me know the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR was cracked & pouring gas into the intake. They said they were suprized it didn’t catch fire. I had them replace it. $700 later it was fixed! The next day the check engine light still not off, I had it checked again. It was the TEMP SENSOR. $35 from auto zone we fixed it! Before we signed the papers we asked if the air didn’t work, if they would fix it! Joel said yes. HA HA big runaround! We were able 2 bring the vehicle to Jabbay on the morning of 4-11-12. I called later that day about my vehicle. All Paul said was “its @ the mechanics & hopefully tomarrow”. I called a lot on Thursday & all I received for answers were ” the mechanic has 2to wait for a part”, “the mechanic has it”, & “hopefully tomarrow”. Come Friday I was furious!!! I drove by dealer & low & behold my vehicle was there! As I was walking into the lot I called Paul & he proceeded to tell me “it was @ the mechanics still& hopefully they could pick it up later”. He heard me when I screamed to get outside cuz my vehicle was there & so was I! He decided tosend the owner / bullshit “mechanic” out! All they ended up doing was splice the a/c line & put pressure fittings on it (that’s. Not a correct way to fix aluminum line). They had my truck @ Lynwood Tire who told them they needed 2 replace the whole line! But instead the mocked the line to get me my vehicle. Because they r too cheap to buy the correct line it needed! OMG. They are ASSHOLES who don’t know how much a person knows about vehicles! What they should know is WORD OF MOUTH CAN RUIN A BUSINESS!! I WILL LET EVERYONE I KNOW NOT TO TRUST THOSE PEOPLE!!!
i arrived at same time as another buyer and received little attention. I did notice that some of the bolts under the hood were freshly painted. -when it came to price Jabaay’s car was 2000 over kbb price and my trade was 3000 under book. my car is in excellent shape.
Our experience at Jabaay couldn’t have been better. I found our beautiful car online, and it was just as beautiful in person. The price was right, they were fair with our trade, and there was absolutely no high pressure.
Paul, our salesman, did everything possible to see to our satisfaction. Joel determined the trade-in value of our car, and he did not insult us with an auction price. If you want a pleasant buying experience, a good value for your $$, and fair trade-in, go to Jabaay.
Please read the POSITIVE reviews carefully. I noticed when ready the “positive” reviews that there were many emotion figures used. I also noticed that it appearred the person writing these “positive” comments were also trying to upsale the carlot, as well as new locations.
I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that these “positive” reviews are being written by owners/employees of the car lot posing as “buyers”. Take a carefull look and I think you will agree. I would buy from these guys and I wouldn’t fall for the “cheap” pricing or claims made by this place. Just one guys opinion.
I saw a car on autotrader and called Jabaay Motors about it I talked to Joel and set up a time to meet at their Merriville Showroom to see it at 7pm I arrived at 6:50pm and waited until 7:30pm when Joel finally arrived 30 minutes late. He never apologized for being late and was very arrogant. I then said I was interested in the car because the car was nice. The next day I called and left a message and followed with another message after never recieving a call back. I never got a call back. What a way to deal with a customer. Joel is an arrogant idiot.
I don’t know what happened with some of the negative reviewers for this dealership but our experience was very good and the price was also very good. We got a fair trade-in value as well and they were honest about the Car Fax report. Just to verify, since we were about to make such a sizeable purchase, I purchased a CarFax report for myself the day before buying the vehicle and it checked out just as we had been told. I saw the ad on Cars.com and saw more photos on their website. About the only thing that is a minor complaint is that their Lansing lot is so full of cars that getting in and out was a challenge and there’s really no parking to speak of, other than some across the street. Other than that everything else was great. I would definately recommend and I would consider going back in the future if another good deal could be found there.
In fairness to bad reviews this car dealer got. 😮 I know how hard it is to deal with customers. I think it really depends on how you approch a person. When we walked in. Did not realized you need a appointment on Saturdays. We were accommodated anyway. I believe Paul his name entertained us first with smile & friendliness. When introduced to Joel (manager & part owner) even though they were booked that day. He fit us to his schedule especially he knows we were coming from a distance travel. The car we want to see was in their showroom in Indiana not that far about 20 mins from their Illinois Car lot. Boy! if you can see some good cars in their Illinois lot. Check out their Indiana showroom 😉 wow!! you will see a lot of amazing cars!!. Where they kept them well maintained. We were greeted by Jim who was down to earth very friendly with smile who entertained us and answered all our questions. Whom we found out was the Joel’s father as the part owner of the family business. Start the car and we know it’s great already by listening to the engine solid!! without testing it – as we felt Jim & Joel were honest and they will tell you to the best of their knwledge about the car they sell. Cummon people!! 🙂 when you buy a used car especially with older model about 5 to 10 years old. Always expect it’s not aways perfect. Lucky if you got one. Be happy if you got a descent low mileage and less problem. Or else buy a BRAND NEW car!. At that point we called Joel and closed deal as we trusted them and I can tell they are sincere and their intentions is to make their customers happy!. So in FAIRNESS to JOEL & JIM owners. It works both ways. The are nice people, honest and reliable. They worked hard to keep the family business going for generations. YOU HAVE TO SEE there cars! they are selling. Joel is wonderful guy and Jim his dad is absolutely wonderful also. Their cars ar great ! and remember you pay for what you got. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Will come back and recommend these guys!!! Thanks guys we are happy with the car we bought. 🙂
When you buy a car. You expect service, quality and trust on the people you deal with. And when you buy a used car don’t expect a “perfect! car” or else get a brand new car. 😉 Especially if the car is a little older model. When we drove to the car dealer in IL on a Saturday this month without an appointment they took the time to accommodate us. Paul (office guy) unless I am wrong the office person was very nice and very friendly. And introduce us to Joel (part owner and Manager). Found time to fit us to their schedule even though they were so busy and their schedule were full. Honestly, I was impressed. Joel was a very nice guy and down to earth person. He even ask Jim (part owner) his dad meet us at their Indiana showroom that afternoon even without an appointment. Wow!! if you will find a lot of nice use descent cars in their Illinois car lot. ——Check out their showroom! lots of beautiful cars! When we looked at the 01 Mustang it was a beauty. At first it did not start battery was not charge but Jim put a charger and it power up quick. You got to meet Jim he is a very nice guy! cool guy also and he was very honest in telling us about the car what he knows about it. Right from there I called Joel and went back to their Illinois office and closed the deal. Even withou testing or driving the car as we can tell I trusted Jim. Plus they take care of their cars before putting it i their showroom. Highly recommended people!. I read some reviews about them and I am so sorry that some had a bad experience or got some cars that had a problem. Remember when buying a used car there is always something possible could go wrong. I don’t think Jabaay Motors intention was to mislead people if something happen. As I can tell their intention is always to make them happy. In fairness to these guys who work hard (Jabaay Motors) as their reviews were some are bad. I think they deserved to be given some good reviews. Cummon people;). Working with customers is not the easiest part always. It works both ways. YES- we highly recommended Motor Dealer!. Cars are great and they did the best of their knowledge to tell the customer the car condition. I would recommend these car dealer. The best! so far we dealth with. Thank You Paul, Joel and Jim we loved our 2001 Mustang!! 🙂 we will defintely recommend you and come back again should we look fo another car. Thanks guys
My family has purchased four vehicles from Jabaay Motors over the last eighteen years, 2 Saturns, a 2001 S-10 Pick-up, and a 2007 Buick. I am now looking at my fifth vehicle from them. It has been a pleasant experience each time. The first Saturn had the alternator go bad about 3 weeks after the sale. I contacted Jim Jabaay, not really expecting any satisfaction. Jim Jabaay personally installed a new alternator the same day. I have been a repeat customer ever since. If I know anybody looking for a used car, I tell them to see if Jabaay has what they need before going somewhere else!
I saw a 1995 camaro that Jabaay is selling online, so me and my buddy travelled from Frankfort to go take a look. When we walked into their office we immidiatly felt very tense and un-welcoming vibes. I asked about the for the carfax and he walked over to the file cabinet and looked at a piece of paper without showing me it and all he said was “it was never in an accident” and then when i asked to see the carfax myself and he said i can see it when i buy the car, and then told me that the Camaro is in thier Merriville showroom and i needed to make an appointment to go see it. The next day i called to set up appontment to go see the car, i spoke to Paul and he was said ” Your the kid who said he wanted to buy next weekend right?” and then he proceeded to tell me that i could not come check out the car until the day i was buying it so that we could “take care of it all in one day”. So obviously i tried to tell him that it makes no sense to buy a car before driving it or even laying eyes on it. He would not budge, he wasnt gonna show me the car unless i was buying it that day, and throughout the entire conversation was a complete dickhead, becoming very snotty with me and when i told him that i was no longer buying the car unless i got to see it first, he simply said ” if ya dont buy it ya dont buy it”. They dont care about their customers whatsoever, and have not the slightest clue how to run a bussiness, and are all together a bunch of slimy, shay people, who you should not even waste your time calling on the phone. Im just glad i found all this out before i bought the car, because if not for the fact that the car was probably a lemon, i would also just hate to put money in these peoples pockets.
I purchased a 2000 corolla from this dealership in June 2010. The car SEEMED fine for the first few months. At the first oil change the mechanic pointed out that there was very little oil in the engine. He checked for leaks and did not find any. I figured the last person had waited to long for the oil change and it ran low. A month later my oil light came on so I checked the oil. There was barely any on the dipstick. I took it back to the same mechanic to check for leaks. Again he did not find any. I took the car to another mechanic and he said my engine was burning oil and possibly had been for quite some time. I was not happy. The car only had 75,000 miles on it when I bought it. The mechanic inferred that someone had changed the mileage on the car. Needless to say I am now in need of a new engine. I am livid!!!! I am a full time student and do not have the time or money to be ripped off!! I want to tell anyone that is interested in buying a car here to turn around now! You are better off with a private sale anyway.
I am from Canada. I bought a Moomba Outback 2005 from Jabbay Motors sight unseen. I had all my questions answered no problem by Joel Jabaay. Joel was actually getting married at the time and took the time out of his busy schedule to get back to me with the information I requested and I had a lot of questions. This from his own home after hours and on the weekends. He also held the boat for me without a deposit to help me out while I got my finances in order. The boat arrived in pristine shape ( I have owned a lot of boats and this was show room condition ). He called me to see how things went and if I was happy with the boat. Also to let me know he was sending me a new boat cover to me no charge account the one with the boat was worn on one spot. If you do your due diligence as a buyer in researching everything, Dealership, liens, history of the product you should be OK. To not get a car fax or the product checked out is just stupid. I would and will deal with Jabaay Motors again. Thanks Joel, my family and friends have had many many great times..

I bought a vehicle from Jabaay Motors in mid-June 2010, and originally left this post on this website:
I recently purchased a used low mileage vehicle from Jabbay. When I test drove the car, the gas light was on, which made it impossible to test it the way I wanted. However the price seemed right, and the salesperson said the carfax was clean (though he never produced it) so I bought. Four days later, the car wouldn’t start because the battery was dead. When I took the car in to have the battery replaced, they found that the entire front end needed work – tie rods, wheel bearings and a front end alignment. $700 worth of work on a car that I bought less than a week ago! When I contacted Joel about it, he simply said that I had been “ripped off” on the repair costs and to fax him the service receipt and he would “see what he could do.” I have owned this car for one week and it is already giving me expensive problems. I highly recommend that you DO NOT buy from Jabaay Motors.
After this message was posted, I was contacted by Joel who was very irate that I had left a negative review after (unbeknownst to me) he had agreed to help pay for some of the repair cost with my boyfriend. Upon finding out I immediately took down as much of the review as the site would allow me and contacted the webmaster to try to get the entire review taken down. I even agreed to write a positive review after I received a check. Later that day after we had already spoken and I had already taken the review down, Joel’s father called me and screamed at me over the phone for several minutes, not allowing me to say even one word. He claimed that writing this review is illegal and said that he had contacted a lawyer. Once he calmed down enough to let me speak, it was clear he had no reason for calling other than to yell at me. After this incident, we waited several weeks for a check to arrive in the mail, but we never received one. We called repeatedly and our calls were never returned. Eventually, we got ahold of Joel who indicated that he would not help us with the repair costs. At this point, I am sorry to say that these people are extremely unprofessional, have no idea how to handle customer complaints with tact, and I will definitely not be shopping with them ever again.
I recently bought a car from Jabaay motors. I have had some issues and am working with the dealer to resolve them.
This is the second purchase my wife and I have made from Jabaay Motors. Joel and Jim actually talked us out of purchasing a more expensive model over the 2007 Ford Edge (SEL) we ending up buying. This car is like new!!! Through the Ford warranty program, they even replaced the chrome rims before our purchase was complete. I would and have recommended this dealership to family and freinds. My sister purchased a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder that she loves as well!!! Jabaay Motors has been a cornerstone in Lansing, Illinois for over 50 years. They must be doing something right!!!! You can also visit their new “INDOOR SHOWROOM” in Merrilliville Indiana. 🙂
WARNING, DO NOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. I purchased a 2003 BMW 330Ci Coupe from this place back in late 2009 and it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life! The car has given me nothing but problems. I keep finding more problems on the car. Joel Jabaay is the most dishonest, slimy human being I have probably ever come in contact with. He was not hospitable, he was not eager to show me the car (even though I drove from Cincinnati to look at it). I feel he did not even want me to inspect the car over in fear of all the faults I would find with it. I felt like he might have been hiding something. He had an arrogant attitude with me the entire time and even once I said I would purchase the car from him, I asked for him to fill up the tank since it was low and he would not even do that!! My fault ultimately for making the mistake of purchasing the vehicle which I have now spent over $1000 in repairs (new battery, new power steering, 2 new tires, a new CAM shaft sensor and a repair of a leak in the trunk. Overall, one of the worst mistakes in purchasing I have ever made. NOT A REPUTABLE DEALERSHIP TO BUY FROM!!!!
We bought a 2002 Chevy Suburban with 40K miles. It now has 85K and is one of the best vehicles we have ever owned. The kids love the DVD system, and I love the way it pulls our boat. We are currently in the market for a second car, I know we won’t look anywhere else. Jim & Joel treated us great before, I’m certain we’ll be treated fairly again. If you’re looking for a good price on a clean used car, Jabaay Motors is the place.
While the staff were friendly, they weren’t particularly attentive. We asked about the Carfax report for the vehicle we were interested in (a low mileage 2005 Pontiac), and were told it was “around” but they weren’t sure where it was. We were told it would be sent with the title (we did not finance). We were told that the vehicle had had 2 owners, had been in Indiana the whole time, and had no accidents. We could see it needed new tires and accepted this given the selling price. We bought, trusting the word of the salesperson. When we took it to our garage to have the tires replaced, we found out the front brakes were shot. The check engine light also came on in the first few days, indicating that the car needed a new catalytic converter. Luckily, this was still covered under the GM warranty and we were able to get it replaced free by our local Pontiac dealer.
The Carfax report did not arrive with the title, and when I went online and bought one myself, I found out that the car had spent its first year as a rental vehicle in New York, and that it was in a front end collision from which it was towed in Lake County in 2006.
I realize that we should have checked more thoroughly about the vehicle before we bought, buyer beware, etc., but I don’t expect flat-out lies from someone who tells me that they run a trustworthy family-owned business and that the customer comes first. We will not be repeat customers. We did call and discuss our concerns with the dealer, but were told that they don’t always check everything, and that because we had our garage fix the brakes there was nothing they could do and that they were “sorry.” Me too.
