I had the frame of my Tundra replaced under warranrty and they failed to connect the sway bars to the control arms. This is not a mistake that would be likely to cause an accident but when I took it back to have it fixed they acted as if they were doing me favor by not charging me for fixing their mistake. The least I expected was an apology for wasting three hours of my time and $25 worth of gas since the dealership is 60 miles away.

Posted: April 6, 2012 Author: Kurt Niland Product Liability WHITTIER, Calif. – A 26-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a 2012 Toyota Camry that suddenly accelerated as the driver was backing out of a beauty salon parking space.
According to the Whittier Daily News, Rosalinda “Rosie” Manzanares was riding her bicycle when she passed behind the Camry, driven by Angelica Cuevas, 78, of Whittier. Manzanares was on her way to exchange a bracelet that she had bought and borrowed the bike from her father.
According to a California Highway Patrol news release, Ms. Cuevas stopped her Camry halfway out of the parking space. Then, “As Ms. Manzanares was riding directly behind Mrs. Cuevas’ vehicle, Mrs. Cuevas rapidly accelerated her vehicle for unknown reasons.”
“If the investigation, upon its completion, warrants it, we will recommend to the District Attorney’s Office to file charges against Mrs. Cuevas,” CHP officer Al Perez told the Whittier Daily News.
Should Mrs. Cuevas be prosecuted, it wouldn’t be the first time a Toyota driver has found him or herself behind bars for a sudden unintended acceleration incident that may have been beyond their ability to stop. We’ve written extensively about a young Minnesota father who was imprisoned after his 1996 Camry sped out of control and crashed, killing three people. Mr. Lee was subsequently released and all charges dropped after evidence was discovered that his vehicle did indeed speed out of control as he claimed all along.
Similarly, in 2010, prosecutors dismissed vehicular manslaughter charges against a Torrance, California woman whose Lexus RX330 accelerated violently and crashed, killing a passenger in the car. According to a surviving passenger, the woman repeatedly screamed “no brakes!” as the car careened
In 2009, Guadalupe Gomez of San Jose, California, was released from charges of vehicular manslaughter and a wrongful death lawsuit after Toyota’s sudden acceleration defects came to light. Gomez’s 2007 Camry sped out of control on Interstate 280 in San Jose and collided with a Honda Accord. Troy Edwin Johnson, a 39-year-old father of 5, burned to death in that accident.
According to Safety Research & Strategies, Inc. (SRS), a firm that has been closely monitoring Toyota’s sudden unintended acceleration debacle, which led to record recalls and fines, the Whittier incident “appears to have the key ingredients of a Toyota Unintended Acceleration parking lot incident.”
According to SRS, the numerous reports of sudden parking lot surges involving Toyota and Lexus vehicles didn’t warrant the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or NASA, which supposedly conducted a scientific and thorough analysis of Toyota vehicles to determine whether an electronic glitch could be behind sudden unintended acceleration events. NHTSA even noted the frequency of “stationary and low speed” incidents occurring during “parking lot entry and exit” in its Technical Assessment of Toyota Electronic Throttle (ETC) Systems,” yet these events were not addressed in the commissioned study conducted by NASA.
According to NHTSA’s Technical Assessment, “Many of the parking maneuver narratives reported incidents characterized by high engine power either after the driver applied the brake or immediately after shifting the transmission,” NHTSA’s report mentions.
SRS also cites a few recent complaints reported to NHTSA involving 2011 and 2012 Camrys that sound remarkably similar to the Whittier incident:
The owner of a 2011 Camry wrote, “Pulling in to ballgame last night on the grassy area to park car. Foot on the brake not on the gas, car accelerated so hard it threw my head back against the head rest, thank God there were no children in front of me.”
The driver of a 2012 Camry reported, “I enter into a parking lot behind a cluster of homes, a car was behind me and the driver indicated that I was going at less than 3-5 miles per hour. I park the car and all of the sudden the car accelerated, went over the parking bump and over a wood safety wall, over some bushes and landed 2 feet down, damaging the homes and a couple of heating units. I pressed the brake but the car kept on accelerating. This car should not be in the market.”
“Then, there’s Tanya Spotts, owner of a 2011 Lexus ES350,” SRS writes. “Spotts was pulling into a second-floor space in parking garage in Reston Town Center, with her foot on the brake. With about three feet to go before coming to a complete stop, her vehicle surged and slammed into the concrete wall in front of her. Spotts looked down and saw her foot firmly on the brake. In fact, she was braking so hard that she sprained and bruised her foot, requiring treatment.”

Kevin Kelly, nope not a problem here!!! Keep telling yourself that!!!
Purchased a 2007 Camry with 5,000 miles, Traded it back in 10 days later because of the dangerous hesitation problem (Google toyota hesitation) and lost 7,000.00 yes seven thousand dollars!!! When I asked Kevin Kelly at DET why I lost so much money because of a problem with no fix he told that he did not hold a gun to my head to buy the camry or to trade it back in. Well these people care about their customers!!!! Not!
Google toyota Sudden acceleration
Google toyota pedal fix not working
Google toyota deaths
Toyota is moving forward in a heap of deadly toyota hype!!!!!! they are not looking back at all the deaths toyota caused hiding the truth about toyota sudden acceleration ( Google toyota hides the truth about sudden acceleration) ( Google toyota’s ceo admits that the pedal fix is not the solution)
It is just wrong what Down East Toyota did to me!!! but by Kevin kelly response to me , well i guess he has been doing these kind of things for so long he just doesnt know it is wrong!!! We all in the end have to answer to one person, and This person knows the truth!!!!!
DET did what they did to me because like kevin says he can do as he wants and no one can do a thing about it!!! Well seems to be true kevin???? You can do as u want to and if this kind of thing is what you do, well good. but you will never get me again no matter how many incentives and rebates and sales you e-mail me even after I have asked SEVERAL times to be removed from your list, I would NEVER buy a car from you again, and tell Ed Darling for me I should have know better!!!! Well yes I should have!!!!! Toyota Going Green??? How many Employees Remember THAT SMELL from the car wash???, how many Employees Remember Down East toyota Pumping all that recycled car wash water from under curleys bay into the swampt area between Down east toyota and wild rose drive?????(which took about 4 hours to do) thats alot ofwater!!! Now that is going green But like Kevin says he can do as he wants and NO one can do a thing about it!!!!
Hey Kevin Kelly you say nothing wrong with the 07 camry you sold me???? I found out that the dangerous death trap was totaled due to the hesitation problem!!!! yeah nothing wrong with it!! 6 owners after me, and was totaled in 2009 with 30 something thousand miles?? nope KEVIN nothing wrong with it!! I guess the 7,000.00 I lost trading the lemon back in after 10 days was worth it!!! atleast the thing didnt kill me!!!!
I have to let eveyone know that I have purchased a new Toyota from Downeast and this has been the best experience that I have ever had in purchasing a vehcle. I usually dread buying a new vehicle but this we totaly a new experience for me. Sales person was not pushy and I was treated great. I will defiantely go back again for purchases and service! 😀
I noticed after16000 mile ( third scheduled ) maintenance that the tires were worn and cupped , front and back on the inside edge of the tires. I asked them what was going on. They replied that I must be riding on rough roads. As an 68 year old I take good care of it and that was not so. I said a blind man rolling the tire from front to back could not have missed this, I had to tell them. Although it was not Toyota’s fault they got Toyota to offer to pay half. After checking out prices I declined. First I did not want them servicing it anymore, and second they jacked up the price and for a few dollars more I got reliable service at a local garage and the service is cheaper and reliable.
I went in and was treated great! Best car buying experience I ever had.:)
Toyota camry recall.
The 07-10 camry has several complaints about the dangerous hesitation/downshifting problem that now becomes “NORMAL” when the three tsb’s fail to fix this problem???
Is this dangerous hesitation problem related to the so called floormats turned gas pedal problem??
I think so , mine hade the dangerous hesitation problem, with being told no fix I traded it back in at down east toyota and lost 7000.00 because of a dangerous problem with no fix??
If toyota cares so much why was kevin kelly so mad that toyota was sending the so called fix (pedals) to the assembly lines rather to the dealerships to fix these dangerous cars?? Tell you why, toyota already got your money for your toyota and its more important to get the ones that are not sold yet fixed first!! Does that sound like toyota cares?????
For kevin kelly to do this kind of thing, me loosing 7000.00 because of a dangerous problem with no fix is just wrong!! for kevin to tell me he did not hold a gun to my head to buy the camry or to trade it back in, With being told no fix at that time but not to worry because like the v6 camry they had to pull all off the lot for transmission problems when and if toyota comesup with a fix they will let you know!! Again that is just wrong!! But as KEVIN says he can do as he wants and nothing i can do about it. Well does that sound like kevin kelly is any better then toyota, and does it sound like anyone at toyota or down east toyota cares????
Don scott told us that the saturday we purchased our camry he sold three and two had come back. Tracy simpson told us at paper signing she also heard of this problem.
The sale rep stated, “There is no point of you wasting my time.” This due to my credit score was not up to HIS satisfication. Went down the road to Varneys and was approve almost IMMEDIATELY.
Purchased this vehicle new in Aug 08, 161 miles on odometer. Vehicle is primary vehicle in the winter only, minimally driven spring, summer and fall. Dec 31, 09 with 18,507 miles the tires on this vehicle needed to be replaced. No mention of this from the service tech. Called my name and that was it. Tires are Yokohama Geolander G91’s. We are always on time for our oil changes and the oil change before this we were not even asked if we wanted our tires rotated, nor was it done. At no time on 12/31/09 did the service tech, or anyone else, tell me of the tread issues on my tires, so I thought all was good. Found out they were no good when I went to pay for the service and cashier could not explain why they were not. Did not offer for the service tech to come over and tell me, just repeated the amount I needed to pay. Had to chase down the service tech to find out what was going on with these tires. He just looked at me and said my tires were bad. Could I make it through the winter? No. End of conversation. Maine Nor’easter arriving the next day, had no chance to plan or to think about it. It cost me $700.00 to get these tires replaced. We have purchased 5 vehicles from this dealership. When I called the salesman, he stated tires are always a “soft spot” and we were “lucky” to get 18K out of them. No offer of good will to help defray the sting of cost for new tires on a brand new vehicle, AND we are leasing it. Friends have the same vehicle and their tires are wearing just as bad as mine did. Dealership NEEDS to take some responsibility but are not. I am not keeping quiet on this. I am writing and emailing every related address I can regarding this. I am still paying for these tires in my monthly payment. There is no documentation a-n-y-w-h-e-r-e as to what customers are paying for tires on their new vehicles so as a dealership it seems they can charge any amount they want. I would encourage all with brand new vehicles to double check with their dealers as to exactly what you are paying for the tires, substandard or not. It was noted on my invoice they could replace my tires, align and balance them for just under $1,000.00. I have heard of tire warranties and told dealerships do not like to do them because they don’t get a good return and it is quite involved, however, again, how much as a consumer do we need to pay and continue to pay for these “new” tires? Please pass this on ! 😡 😡
The sales Rep actually turned his back on me and walked away because I told him I would be shopping other dealerships. He wouldn’t acknowledge my existance when I asked him if he was serious. The sales manager refused to give me a price or appraisal on my trade because “he couldn’t win” unless he had the chance to give me a price last……. .Crooks.
Invest some time and let the president, Mr. Darling, and the general manager, Mr. Kelly know about this. Perhaps they are fully aware of their behavior, perhaps they are not. Also AAA (Automobile Association of America) highly endorses this dealership for the “excellent” customer service, maintenance, etc. Let them know about what level you received. It can’t hurt. Every sale at any dealership pays their employees payroll, salesmans commissions, raises, renovations, etc. I want my money working for me, not against me. Let them know !! Good luck. :devil(
The “president” MR DARLING could care less about any complaints!! The only thing he cares about is how good his house looks and THINGS!!!
Kevin Kelly the “GM” he Just cares about “Blowing his own horn” LOL (someone has to) You can talk up death trapppps all you want kevin but the death trap you sold me had the problems you said were “NORMAL” or wait wait was it “I didnt wait long enough for you to fix it!!?? it was totaled due to the “NORMAL” hesitation problem it had, and yes kevin by the complaints of the 03-2012 camrys this deadly problem is NORMAL!!!!! its a great feeling when you purchase a car thinking its a goood car and to find out you should have taken the 20,000.00 out in your driveway and burnt it, you would have been better of!!!!IF YOU TALK ANYTHING UP ENOUGH YOU CAN SELL IT TO THE STUPID CONSUMER!!! TOYOTA HAS PROVEN THIS !!!
Purchased a 07 camry on saturday june 2nd 07, by monday noticed a dangerous Hesitation/Downshifting problem, called det service dept monday june 4th told them of problems. I was told to drive for a week so car can learn driving habits, stupid me fell for it!
On june 11th with no change in cars dangerous problems I called det service dept again, this time I was told no fix at this time but not to worry because like the v6 camrys they pulled all off lot for transmission problems when and if toyota comes up with a fix they will let me know.
With being told no fix for this dangerous problem, I traded the camry back in for the 05 buick I traded 10 days earlier.
I found at paper signing I will loose the 5000.00 cash I put down and will owe 2000.00 more on buick then I did 10 days ago.
I called det several times to ask why I lost 7000.00 because of a problem with no fix, kevin kelly called me back in sept, when I asked him this question, he told me that he was not aware of any complaints or problems with the 07 camry and he did not hold a gun to my head to buy the camry or to trade it back in. so there is nothing you can do about loosing 7000.00.
I was never told by the service dept that the first tsb was out at that time, Why?? according to the many many complaints about the 07 and 08 camry on the internet, this does not fix the dangerous hesitation/downshifting problem.
Just not right to do this kind of thing to people!! loose 7000.00 because of toyotas screw up.
Google 07 camry transmission problems. see for yourself!
and kevin, it was not just me or my camry!!! thousands and thousands of complaints!!
