The manager put down an OTD price that didn’t add up to when all the individual numbers were added together. He insisted that it was all correct, so I took out my calculator and pointed out how there an unsubstantiated $400 overage when the individual TTL numbers were added together. He than nonchalantly explained it away as a simple mistake from when he wrote the number down. Yeah, sure was what i was thinking – but I said fine and told him no more ‘mistakes’ from this point on or I am leaving.
When it was all said and done, we finally worked out a number and started to talk about how I was going to pay. They were not too thrilled about the draft check from my bank and insisted they needed to have a 5-liner credit pull to verify that I am a “good person / approved” with the draft payment. I am clearly not thrilled about unneccessary credit pulls, especailly when it has nothing to do with applying for credit, so we went back and forth arguing for about 15 minutes and I finally relented and said sure go ahead.
“Incredible score, we have no problems here, everything looks great, the draft payment shouldn’t be a problem” was what the manager said. They led me to the F&I office and the second round of waiting began. The waiting continued and finally the manager comes back out with a credit app and proceeds to tell me how his GSM needs for me to provide my employer, income, asset & debt information by filling out the credit app because they need to insure that my bank will honor the draft. Has anyone ever heard of this BS before? What the hell does this have to do with paying with a bank draft? + they also told me that I was all good to go earlier when they uneccessarily pulled my credit for the 5 liner.
I reminded him of this and he goes into a speil about how my bank might not pay the dealership and they needed to be covered, etc. – all i could think about was what kind of total BS this was. I could not help but to think the shady GSM/dealership probably wanted to shop my information around with their banks. So, I again asked why then did he tell me earlier that all that was needed was the 5-liner pulled to insure I was who I was and that the bank draft payment would be acceptable. NO ANSWER – probably because I caught them in yet another LIE.
I told them that I would NOT fill in my financial information because I was not applying for credit nor was I financing through them. I also reminded them that they already pulled the 5-liner, and that they do not need to know my entire financial history as I was not applying for credit with them. I also told them that my bank would be more than happy to speak with them to confirm the funding- but they declined.
Notice that this is another confirmation of their LIES.
They said no way around this, so I said give me back all photocopies of my id’s and walked out. 4 hours wasted. It was as if they kept making things up as things went along.
Shady…shady…shady.
**— Fast forward 4 days later —-**
They agreed to take a certified bank check to keep the sale – I repeatedly confirmed with them about no more BS moves on their part and they kept saying ok. GUESS WHAT, that was a LIE too.
Upon vehicle delivery, they wanted me to sign a RISC – Simple Interest contract with bad financing terms filled in, even though I was paying them with a certified bank check from my bank. The sales person and his GSM kept saying that it was just a standard contract for receipt of delivery that everyone signs. WHAT?!?! was all I could say. Why would I sign a legally binding financing contract with the dealership when I am paying by certified bank check? LIES LIES LIES continue.
After I told them this, they than had the nerve to tell me the contract was a back-up to insure that my bank would honor the certified check. Notice how the deception and lies just continue? and also how the story just changed after I confronted them???
I am filing complaints against this dealership with the CA State AG, BBB and FTC so that they can compile enough to investigate the deceptive buisness practices employed by Antioch Mazda. Come to think of it, they did not even have permissible purpose to pull my credit report because I don’t recall signing any credit app authorizing a credit pull, so I’ll file an additional complaint to the FTC on that too.
BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE of ANTIOCH AUTOCENTER – MAZDA.
I am sure I will get flamed from many sales people on this board BUT all of the above is a TRUE account of what happened. That is why I am filing complaints to the appropriate government agencies. The only reason why I knew about these SHADY practices was due to extensive research on the web. Anyone purchasing a car NEEDS to do research on the buying process BEFORE stepping foot into a dealership.
