Once you purchase/lease car, they will not help with any problem. Money hungry sales people, unfriendly service/parts department. Takes forever to get in touch with anyone, had to call headquarters to get any attentions. DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!
These guys are pathetic. I attempted to contact their internet sales manager, Carl Jenkins, but he was non responsive – he just didn’t reply. Finally I sent a message stating, “I’m buying a car this week in case you sell cars.” So, this made it easy enough for him to call me and he did. Carl doesn’t like to work too hard.
A very long story short: I come into the dealership with 2 days prior notice (they know I’m coming) and the car is in an outdoor lot, covered in dirt, grass growing up around it, with rusty rim plates. I can picture it clean, but you would think for $24,000 they would at least give it a wash and really motivate me to give them the money I have in my hand. Frankly, a Jetta TDI doesn’t look nearly as nice after it’s been offroading.
Anyways, then begins a month of torture. Carl can’t seem to respond to questions/statements at any level that could be described as ‘quickly’. He seems to be working in his own time/space. I should have know when he didn’t respond at all to my initial inquiries to the dealership about buying the Jetta. I mean, isn’t that his single, only, and very basic purpose as the internet manager? If you aren’t responding to internet customers who are telling you straight up they want to buy your car, then what do you tell the girl at the bar when she asks “what job do you have?” I mean, you’re not really doing any job, are you? You are just sitting in a car lot in your cheap shirt and tie, waiting for the shift to end. And because you are on comission, you aren’t even making any money. Just sittin’ there… Counting the clouds.. Watching the cars drive down Rt.17….
Anyways, this drags on forever – Carl intermittently calls me “URGENTLY” then goes silent for a bunch of days. Then, when Carl/Joe Heidt gets all the paperwork together, they finally decide they need to hold my car while they wait for the clunkers rebate from the Gvnmt, instead of selling me the new car, for which I’m standing there with money in my hand. -Note: This in exact contradicition to the publicly stated rules of the CARS program, not to mention the spirit of the program which is to help dealers sell (consumers were perfectly happy not buying cars as far as statistics show). – Despite my requests, Joe Heidt offered absolutely zero – nothing – zilch – to assist me while they held my car. After two weeks of renting cars, taking trains, and generally surviving without a car, I email Carl and say, “Where’s those updates you promised me every two days”. Carl tells me the internet keep crashing so he can’t get updates. JC. Is this guy for real? Finally I said, I’m going to come down there and get my keys, maybe take my car back. He says ‘fine, talk to my manager’ but doesn’t bother to tell me they are closed the day I’m coming, even though he knows it. So, they are closed when I show up. So, I just took my car from their lot and went home.
I was willing to, and did, give up a $4500 government rebate on a new car instead of buying from Joe Heidt; that’s bad to the point of being impressive. These guys are a bunch of leaches who sit around praying for sales to fall into their lap, then do absolutely nothing even when they do! It’s unbelievable. Give your money to someone who wants it and needs it. Joe Heidt does not deserve your money straight up, nor through any government sponsored program. You can drive 10 minutes further and get a VW (or any other make) and feel like you aren’t talking to a two bit hustler who’s too lazy to hustle. Good luck, Carl Jenkins.

This is the second time I’ve walked out of Joe Heidt when trying to purchase a vehicle. The first time was in 2000 and they still have the most inept group of salesmen I’ve ever been witness to.
I sent an email requesting info about an Internet promotion they had. Salesperson Carl Jenkins quickly responded and asked to set up a time to come in to discuss in person. Fair enough. How about 6pm (they are open until 8pm) on Friday. I didn’t hear back but went anyway.
I walk in with wife and young daughter. No greeting. No Carl Jenkins. Two “salesmen” sitting at their desks and not getting up. Another salesman whining like a baby about a customer giving him a hard time on the phone. The “manager” took over the phone call because the salesman couldn’t get it together.
After several minutes of being ignored, I say out loud in the direction of the salesmen…”if anyone wants to sell a car to me today, I’ll be outside.” So we go walking around the lot to check out the cars. 10 minutes go by…no one comes out. I walk back to the dealership and it’s the same pathetic scene.
I urge anyone who is considering a VW to look elsewhere. This is the tackiest, classless sales team you’ve ever seen with a dumpy dealership to go along with it. STRIKE TWO for Joe Heidt. I will NEVER go back to buy a car from this dealership or from anyone that works there.
Almost Knocked this guy out. By the grace of god I calmed myself down enough to keep my clenched, shaking fist at my side. So here’s what happened. I was looking at the r32 and really liked the car a lot. After the test drive we went inside to talk numbers. I said that my reason for coming in was to get a first look at the r32 and do some real thinking, but that I would probably be ready to pull the trigger on a deal within a week or so. He told me he could hold the car for a week with a refundable deposit of $200. Completely refundable, even gave me it in writing. Because I really liked the car, I figured I would go ahead and leave the deposit. Unfortunately a few days later I found out my fiance would need surgery and that our insurance would only cover about half of the money. I knew that I would no longer be able to buy a new car. I went in today (11/28/08) to get my $200 back. I see this guy standing there. I make it short and sweet and say that I simply want my money back. He starts asking me all types of pushy questions about why that is which i understood on a certain level, its his job. I say its really a personal issue and the sale is no longer under discussion and that I apologize. Then this guy brings the manager, and he starts getting pushy with me. I keep saying listen, i just want my money back and i dont have to explain myself. Greg gives me receipt for my refunded money and then tells me to get the f**k outa here and that I’m a prick for asking for my deposit back considering all the help he gave me and then tells me to f**k myself, all in front customers on the showroom floor. I was so shocked that I didnt know what to say. I just laughed in his face and walked out and call him an effing moron. He then follows me out, gets in my face and yells at me again. At this point Im yelling at the top of my lungs and I tell him that if he doesnt remove himself from my personal space immediatly or I will do so myself. He then turned around and went back inside. If you want to deal with pushy, arrogant, slimeball car salesman who wear cheap cologne and even cheaper suits, then this is your place. Just look out for your own health if you walk out and dont buy one of their cars, because apparently these guys like to engage in fisticuffs when this happens.
