Albany is the main trade center for Southwest Georgia and is situated in the Plantation Trace region, 145 miles south of Atlanta on the Flint River. Its population is in excess of 76,000.
The main agricultural produce is cotton, peanuts, corn and tobacco, together with paper-shell pecans and forest products. Albany is not only a farming center, but has developed a diversified industrial economy, which includes companies such as Procter & Gamble, Miller Brewing, and M & M Mars.
