As explained by another dissatisfied customer, this dealership loves hidden fees. They even charged a few hundred for factory etching on the windows! I had purchased a vehicle before I left to Hawaii and there was something wrong with the bumper so I left it there for more than two weeks after purchasing the vehicle so the bumper could be fixed. When I got back, the vehicle was dirty inside and out! They also charged a fee so that if the vehicle did not pass state inspection it would be covered and fixed at no additional charge. Of course the vehicle did not pass inspection. Not only were the tire treads too low to pass, but the steering column itself was loose! This made it completely unsafe to drive. When I brought it back with the inspection failures reciept, they wanted to charge me even more money to fix it until I made a show saying that I paid extra money to cover the vehicle in case it did not pass the state inspection. So not only did I have to wait for the vehicle to be fixed, I had to pay for a rental out of my own pocket for more than a week while they fixed the problems with the vehicle. Also, I was sold a warranty, and given paperwork for a particular warranty only to find out when the vehicle broke down that the warranty I was told I was purchasing was not actually the warranty I was sold. All the information on the warranty looked good when I purchased it, but had I known that was just a front and I was actually paying for a different, cheaper and less extensive warranty, I would have never purchased the vehicle. Had I known I would have had so many problems afterwards with service and vehicle problems, I definitely would have never purchased from this dealership, but it was too late. After they had my money, it was like customer service was unimportant and whatever happened with the vehicle after they had their money was my problem. This place is a horrible dealership and I definitely would not advise or suggest anyone purchase a vehicle from them. Apparently there are so many bad ratings from different individuals for a reason: they are untrustworthy, unreliable, dishonest, money hungry vultures.
They were the worst, they used tricky sales tactics and the consumer service was very poor. They never wanted to tell you of the hidden doc. fee $850 and processing fee $1275, so do not take the advertised price for face value. When you call to speak to someone they will leave you on hold for up to 10 minutes then hang up on you (believe me it happened 5 times). Compass Dodge aka Route 280 Auto Group needs to rethink how they sell used cars that can not pass inspection. My used car failed miserably and I am returning it today, if they think they can fix the $2000.00 worth of damage they are sadly mistaken and they can keep it.
When reading all of the other posts — it’s the same story in each one. Internet price gets you in get to Dealership. When you try to close, price goes up 13% !!!! They do not honor their published prices. You get jerked around by the entire staff — passed off from one person to the next. Told that the owner, “Junior”, does not speak to customers. Why, in this economy, do business with an establishment like this? There are plenty of reputable places selling cars. Do not do business here.
I was looking for a Mustang, so I went online as anyone would saw the price and love it. im from brooklyn so my dad and I drove all the way out there now this back in april to look at the car 1st the price on the internet was wrong it was much higher. I took it for a test drive open the hood looked over the whole car everything was good, I loved the car and got it the same day. now two weeks later the horn started to blow non-stop pulled over, turned it off, waited a few mins the turned it back on everything was fine. two days later same problem so i had to pull the fuse for the horn. went back the NJ to fix the problem, 9hr later they fix it, so i was told. next day same problem pulled the fuse following day went back 6hrs later they could not fix it, i went back 3 more times to get it fixed, they had to order the part for it. i was told it would take a 3 days. two weeks and 6 phone calls later was told the part still wasnt there, they put me on hold called up another service department in the bronx who had the part and if i wanted to go there. went there had to wait 3 days the problem was fixed after driving 9 weeks without a horn. that is not the Big Problem remember i got the car in april now its september started to get calls from the compass dodge to come in and sign papers for a new bank for more money or “ONE MORNING I WILL WAKE UP AND MY CAR WILL BE GONE IF YOU DONT COME IN AND SIGN NEW PAPERS” now these word are right out of the womens mouth i recorded every call they made to me. also called up my bank and they said there is no problem with the account pay no attention to the dealership. now its sep 8 and just got a letter from the bank telling me the dealership payed off the loan, now i have to sign new paper for a new bank for more money if i want to keep my car. STAY AWAY CHECK THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU you will see.
FORGOT THEY GET NO STARS WORST DEALERSHIP EVER
Compass Dodge, now called “280 Auto,” would have been quite a fantastic auto dealership, except they love fees. The building was located just outside the ghetto, but seemed in moderately good condition. (Other reviews state that the building was run down and the salespeople were rude and unprofessional, but I disagree) The salesman was extremely friendly and was not in any way pushy, (at least until we asked to pay in cash) and helped us find a suitable car. While the vehicles in the lot weren’t in disrepair, many were missing buttons or levers, (most of these were easy fixes. However, a Nissan Xterra was missing the switch to change the car into 4WD, a very important part of the vehicle) and some had scratches. However, seeing the initial prices, this was acceptable.
So my dad and I finally chose a car, a 2005 Honda Accord with some repairable scratches and a missing button, for just under 10k. (we found the price on the internet and even printed it out) We thought it was a pretty good deal, considering how the car had low mileage, so we entered the building and began the payment process. The first problem arose when we inquired about type of payment. We wanted to pay cash, but they wanted us to finance. After some waiting, we decided that financing wouldn’t cost too much, considering how we would be able to get the internet price. So we waited some more, (they love to make you wait) and then finance lady calculated the price. We saw her calculations, and were stunned. Somehow, the base price had risen to 12k, (fees!) and after some extra additions (more fees!) the price was up to 13k, and with “taxes” (even more fees!) the price settled at just over 14k.
KBB had this vehicle at $11k in excellent condition. We were not going to pay over $14,000 for a scratched accord with a button missing, so we just walked out, having wasted two hours of our time. There are no deals at Compass Dodge/280 Auto.
This dealership is a fraud! They misrepresent the prices of their vehicles by listing them at a lower price than what they intend to sell. In fine print then there is verbiage about the listed price being AFTER a down payment. They further decieve their customers by having 2 different prices depending on whther they are financing or not. It’s a SCAM and you should NOT shop there. All of the employees are the most ghetto least educated people I’ve ever met and the place itself is a dump! Buyer BEWARE!!
I fully agree, the place is a dump….I was interested in a vehicle as a gift for my son, I went to look at it on a Saturday, May 2, in the morning as soon as they opened up, took it for the customary test drive, agreed on a purchase price, agreed on what needed to be done to the car to be ready for pick up on the agreed date of May 6th as I travel for work and was heading to Harrisburg PA. On May 2nd, Monday evening at 4:35 pm Hector Colon calls my cell phone and informs me that I “have to pick up the car today or they are going to sell it to someone else”. Obviously confused by that, Marie, a supposed Sales Manager gets on the phone and tells me that they are going to sell the car by the end of the night and I “HAD” to drive 3 1/2 hours (unplanned) or they wouldn’t honor the deal. Some other sleazy manager got on the phone and I explained everything, even offering to add an extra $2500 to my deposit, His reply was “you have no idea how many people don’t show up after they leave a deposit” and “I’m in the business of selling cars, not being accomodating”. And if anyone questions the accuracy of this, I have it recorded…..So, I drove the 3 1/2 hours to get the car, the paperwork for these illiterate slobs took over an hour for a cash sale….how simple….just like them….Now comes getting the plates and registration…Today is June 8th and I finally got the plate, after 2 temp plates expired…..again…..they have no business follow-up and care for the customer…..Now I am looking for the refund of the “estimated” title and reg. fees of $240 which actually came to $63.50. “Judy” tells me that they go out once a month and I’ll have to wait until the end of June, and when she bought her car at, Samsone (Toyota) , “I think that it took them 3 months”…..Why would the finance person of a $400 million dollar dealership CHAIN buy her car at Samsone?, other that these idiots can’t get anything right. There is more than one way to get the refund, simply dispute the charges on my MC for the amount owed….now I have the leverage….and I will go out of my way to inform everyone I know, and if possible,… lots that I don’t know, about the terrible customer service and poor treatment and rat hole of a dealership this is. No wonder they are on the list of dealerships not being renewed by Chrysler. It should be on the top of the list….even better, I may contest the overcharging on 2 credit cards as I used one the first day, and one when I was forced to drive 7 hours needlessly to purchase this car……I should send them a bill for my time! and if they don’t pay it, put a lein on their business. If you can’t tell by now, I am really angry and disgusted with these losers…..more to follow…..
right on !!!!
Hello.* I am writing to complain about CompassDodge in Orange, NJ, phone:*
We saw a Jeep Compass from them , linked from Yahoo. We drove all theway from Brooklyn to Orange, NJ.*When we get there the vibe is completely unprofessional with a20-something girl, that was obviously not really a car dealer.* Then—we can’t make this up, but theJeep had a huge rusted, dent in the front side, yet the picture on your site, did not show the dent at all, or even mention the dent.* To top this off all 4 tires were stolenoff the car when we got to the car, to everyones surprise.* What a complete waste of time and theyfraudulently advertise damaged cars! They didn’t even try hard to apologize for our time or try to make it up in any way. *We couldn’t get out of there fast enough! *Unprofessional !!!!!
I found a car advertised on autotrader for 10k which was exactly what I wanted. I drove 2 hrs to get to the dealership to find its in the ghetto and it’s a totally shady looking dealership. The staff was very unprofessional but the price sounded so good I was going to overlook that fact. After an hour’s wait, a salesperson finally got to me and showed me the car I wanted to see. I drove 2 hours to see a car with no radio and the back seats ripped out. Obviously I didn’t want that and they should have stated that on their ad for that car. I was immediately skeptical and should have followed my instincts. I looked at the same kind of car, a newer year and way lower miles. The price on the windshield said 17.5k and the salesman told me it would really be 14.5k so I was making progress. They wanted to give me nothing for my trade but got them to give me 1k for it. Somehow with the ‘dealer fees’ and everything the price I was quoted was 16k after all was said and done. They practically made me drive it home right then while my financing was taken care of. I didn’t worry any about it until about a month later I hadn’t heard from them. I called and called and called and was put on hold, hung up on, etc for weeks. I went to my bank and said I’m tired of dealing with this place, I need a loan so I can just hand them a check. So I got my loan within 2 days from PNC bank and drove back to the dealership to pay them for my car. They told me now, not before I signed everything, that it would be $2k more if I didn’t finance through them. After being pissed I just wanted to get the hell outta there and just paid it, after literally getting into a verbal argument with the finance manager (he’s totally rude and inconsiderate). Now the car looked in good shape had low miles and was guaranteed to pass inspection. I finally got around to getting it inspected and it needed $400 worth of work. Now I was pissed. I just spent 18k on a car thats worth 16 at the most and I’m still going to have to put money into the car?! I don’t even feel like trying to complain because they are so inconsiderate and pushy and just horrible. My sales guy andre was really nice and a really great guy. I know he was trying to work with me but the manager there was making it hard for andre to get me a decent deal. Andre even drove all the way to me (2 hrs) because I had signed the wrong line on the bank’s check. I really appreciated Andre’s consideration but the dealer as a whole is terrible. So now a little after getting it inspected, I’m having to pay another $500 to get a cracked belt replaced in my engine which according to my mechanic ‘must have been there for at least 6 months’ and I bought the car 3 months ago. I’m filing a complaint with the BBB and I suggest that NO ONE GO HERE TO BUY A CAR!!! RIPOFF SCAM ARTISTS RUN THE DEALERSHIP AND ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY. I should have gone to a local dealership I know and trust and I would have spent the same amount of money but wouldn’t have had the hassle. The only reason I didn’t wind up paying 23k for the car is because I pushed back and told them exactly what I would pay and no more. Beware if you dare to venture to Compass dodge in Orange, NJ.
This dealership is full of it. They have a price listed on their Cars window and an internet price which is supposed to lure you to the dealer. However, once they add all of their fee’s everything adds right back up to the price on the window of the car or very close to it. Once you can’t get the car you want they try to pressure you into buying one of the many Jeep Cherokee’s they have. They want you to pay your down payment before you even see what your car payments will be. I would not suggest this dealer to any one EVER. They are not worth the hours you will spend there. On two occasions I went into the dealer 3 weeks apart, and had them give me pricing for two cars. The dealer’s fee’s should be universal since they are not determined by the car you’re buying. the first time they showed me the paperwork of the fee’s and they fee’s totaled roughly $1600 3 weeks later the fee’s totaled $3200, and they didn’t let me see the figures for the fee’s this time. This place is a rip off
They have an internal racket (which is expected) however the sad thing is that it appears that the managers encourage it. When we were buying a used car from them they kept making side comments about the endless customers who had legitimate concerns. Our turn came when they could not retrieve a Title for a vehicle we had bought from them. They became shamelessly rude, belligerent from sales person (Flo) to manager (Mr. Borimo and David). And that mistake of a human being Jennifer is just a plain ignorant joke.
I guarantee you this company will not last…I’ve read the other reviews and if I were you I’d join in the long list of complaints at NJ Department of Consumer Affairs–that is if you go ahead and buy from them. PLEASE RUN AND DO NOT LOOK BACK THEY ARE REALLY NOT WORTH THE PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the worst dealership I have ever had to deal with. I did buy my car from them but cannot get my title from them. My 20 day temporary registration has expired and for some reason, they will not give me my title so I can’t register and get plates for my car. I paid cash for my car and don’t owe them anything. Horrible service from the managers, the sales persons and the worst of them all Jenniffer in the compass dodge motor vehicles department is the rudest human being ever. She even hang up on me when I told her to stop yelling on the phone all I was doing is asking for my title. Why won’t they keep their end of the contract?
It is common business practice for dealerships to pull tricks in order to draw customers to their lots but car buyers are becoming increasingly tired of dealing with these types of dealerships. If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. Why not try something different? It is true that you won’t make money by being upfront and honest to all of your customers but I had a very discouraging experience last with Compass Dodge on Sat., 10/06/2007. They’ve posted a picture of a vehicle for sale on several different car sites. The car is a 2004 silver Ford Explorer, 32,000+ miles. The asking price is $8,995. There is a visible dent in the bottom of the front right-side passenger door. Okay… fine. What they fail to mention in any of these listings is that the inside of the vehicle is in TERRIBLE condition – every seat is slashed, radio is missing, the interior is dirty – the car is not BUYABLE! What is even more infuriating is that a good deal of their buyers probably come from New York City and it was a long drive and the directions the dealership gave were wrong. When we got there, the a sales person named Marisol put on an entire show, pretending that she didn’t know what condition the car was in before we got there… suuure. I had contacted her several times before my visit, asking her if the car was still available. She told me the car was available, never mentioning the condition the car was in. This car had been posted on sites for at least 3 weeks so most likely, she’d gotten previous visits for that particular car so she MUST have known what condition the car was in. What a waste of time. If you’re NOT first-time car buyer, then I’m sure you’re already familiar with dealerships and the B.S. they’ll pull just to get a sale. But whoever you are, I’m here to let you know that if you’re considering a visit to this dealership, just cross it off your list RIGHT NOW. Save your time! They have NOTHING SPECIAL TO OFFER! There sales people are clearly liars. Most cat dealerships are truly not here to work for YOU. Especially COMPASS DODGE!

This car dealer has failed to return my downpayment even after a month as I did not buy from him.No manger picks the phone or replies back to message.
They don’t sel the car with out extended warrenty and do not agree to the internet price.Stay away from the dealer.
