I purchased a tire costing @ $200 for a Honda 1800 VTX from Desoto Honda in Southaven, MS. that was almost ten (10) years old at the time of purchase. This tire was observed by a technician at another Honda dealership a few months after the tire was mounted, to have serious signs of wear. Needless to say, I was extremely appalled that so little consideration for safety was given by Desoto Honda- because the dealership either knew- or should have known- the tire was too old to sell. They also knew or should have known the effect that both time and climate have on tire material/components. The salesperson was not knowledgeable about his own operation-having no idea when asked about the manufacturer’s production date, what the numbers on the tire meant (by his own admission)until I told him. This is INEXCUSABLE and endangered the lives of not only the motorcycle passenger(s)-but other unsuspecting citizens as well. With this in mind, there should have been no hassle regarding FULL compensation for reimbursement in this matter; however, although the tire was replaced- the store manager Richard Jones (who was EXTREMELY HOSTILE & ARGUMENTATIVE when I spoke with him about the $45 mounting fee)and his parts mgr, Wyatt- didn’t think enough about jeopardizing the lives of others by selling OLD,DEFECTIVE TIRES to also pay the mounting costs- which had ALREADY been paid once by the Customer. The additional mounting costs should NOT be shouldered by the Customer AGAIN because of Desoto Honda’s unethical behavior. It was Desoto Honda’s total responsibility to at LEAST bear any & ALL costs associated with replacing the bad tire-which they FAILED to do.
This dealership should be AVOIDED at all costs. If this is the way the Customer is treated because of a DEADLY, GROSS ERROR the dealership made- they are not worthy of the Customers’ patronage. CUSTOMERS-CHECK THE MANUFACTURER’S DATE ON ANY TIRE BEFORE PURCHASING. DEFECTIVE TIRES KILL PEOPLE. A VERY OLD TIRE (like the 10 yr. old tire I purchased) IS A DEFECTIVE TIRE. TO SELL A TEN YR. OLD TIRE SHOULD BE A CRIMINAL OFFENSE, BECAUSE IT JEOPARDIZES PEOPLE’S LIVES. SHAME ON YOU, DESOTO HONDA, FOR YOUR IRRESPONSIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICES.
