open road honda are bait and switch pros. stay away. Rip off artists. Its like buying a timeshare. the finance dept hires ex cons( the guy looks like malcolm x) the rest of the staff are teenagers. sales staff are all from india. who drive a cab during the week. and dress up on weekends to steal from honest working people.
Donot go to Openraod honda for your service. Their labour rates are attrociously high and the same with routine service, like 7500/15K/30K miles service. Parts not always there and service may run over to 1 or 2 days than promised. Anything they charge will most likely 3 times higher than other honda dealers.
On August 17, 2009 my husband and I walked into Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ. We came to an agreement after many hours of negotiating, we signed a contract and left a $500.00 required deposit. My husband’s old vehicle qualified for a $4500.00 deduction with the C.A.R.S. government incentive program. According to the binding contract we signed with them, the deduction was honored and taken off of the total cost of the new vehicle. We were told we did not need to bring in the “clunker” until our new car arrived. The new vehicle was in transit to the dealership and would be there within the next 12 days. Financing through them was a little shady and I was unable to get an exact APR with my husband and I on the loan. I decided to get a loan with another bank. On Aug. 19th, I called Wajid Rauf, our salesman, to let him know this and tell him know we would be dropping off the “clunker” the next day (Aug. 20th). On our way there, Wajid Rauf called and said the money ran out and they would not give us the deduction. I called the C.A.R.S. hotline and they said that was not true. We continued on our way to the dealership. When we got there, we were told by our salesman, Jamie Vasco the Sales Manager and Steven Park the General Manager that they have chosen not to participate in the program anymore and they would not honor the original binding contract. I argued that we had a signed contract that they took a deposit from us, but this did not matter to them. We called the Edison police department, so we could document this occurrence. On our way home, I made numerous phone calls to the dealerships we had recently visited. Some of which still participated in the program, so we had to make a hasty decision. We purchased another vehicle we are not totally happy with just so we could take advantage of the government incentive. This would not have been the case if this dealership did not back out of the original contract they signed with us! There were other shady things that happened during the negotiating process and I can elaborate later if need be. This dealership offers the lowest price to get you in the door with their “no hassle” special internet pricing, yet the entire process is nothing but! It should be exciting to purchase a new car. Instead, car dealers make it a process someone never wants to go through again! They try to take you for thousands right out of the gate and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you will get taken. It’s just wrong that they are able to do this to anyone. There is no doubt in my mind that if they were able to do that with us, we still be waiting for our new vehicle to arrive at their dealership with the original contract in good standing. We were told to get a lawyer and that we have a good leg to stand on.
Just to verify: The dealership backed out of the signed contract, so we did not get the car we purchased.
