I purchased a used CRV from DCH Honda of Paramus in January of 2020.
Repeated phones were made to get the Title but they used COVID-19 as an excuse, NJ MVC being closed as an excuse, and I’m not being patient with the process.
They had the Title in their possession since 07 Feb but couldn’t walk across the street to their admin office to get it!
The buying experience was great but than the lies, laziness, and total lack of caring regarding the Title turned that sour.
Shop for your Honda someplace else!
I went to buy a new car. They somehow managed to trick me into buying a used car with 11% APR and a Service contract of 1300. In that amount I could have bought a premium new car. I cancelled the service contract but i am still fighting with them over the refund of service contract.
We apologize for any misunderstanding. Our goal is making sure that each one of our customers has the car they need at a price they can afford, while providing great customer service. Please contact me directly so we can try and resolve the situation. Sincerely, Brian Lam, General Manager – [email protected] 201-368-0180
WARNING!!! STAY AWAY!!! IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU!!! IT IS ACCEPTABLE ACCORDING TO HONDA STANDARDS FOR A 2008 V6 HONDA ACCORD COUPE TO CONSUME UP TO 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES.
On July 14th of 2010, i bought a Pre-owned Certified Honda Accord V6 Coupe from DCH Honda of Paramus. As it was stated from other reviewers, paperwork mistakes were also encountered to me, i signed up for a third party tire and wheel insurance; however, there was a mistake and something different was given to me, which was finally corrected. Besides that, in the trunk of the car, where the spare tire is, there are still credit card receipts and garbage from the previous owner. In addition, the previous owner’s phone numbers are stilled stored in the computer system of my vehicle. About three months after buying the car, i needed new rear breaks, which i bought from Honda and went to a third party shop to install them; yet, my wheel lock was missing. I called and visited the dealership and i was asked for $60 to buy the wheel lock! Unbelievable! I argued about it and I ended up receiving it at no charge.
On January 31st 2011 the check engine light of my vehicle went on and I checked the oil level; I had to add 3 quarts of oil in the engine for the oil level to reach right in between Min and Max, while I still had about 50% oil lifetime, 3 ½ quarts of oil low. My car was under full warranty, so I called the service department of DCH Honda of Paramus, where i bought my vehicle from and stated the problem. I did make an appointment and dropped the vehicle the day after, February 1st of 2011 for diagnosis and also for the 40000 mile due service. That same day I picked up my car and I was told by Mr. Carlos Reyes, the service advisor who handled my vehicle that all the tests have shown that everything was fine with my car and that there was no problem, I was advised to check the oil level every 1000 miles and if it was low to return back to the dealership. That day I asked Mr. Reyes if there was a leak because an excessive amount of oil was getting disappeared; he said no, I then asked if the car was burning oil, he again said no and that even if it did, it would not be possible to know. The day after I checked my oil level and it was at the MAX level.
Twenty five days later, on Saturday February 26th (after 1667 hundred miles) the oil level was low again close to MIN. Note, the lower the oil level gets, the higher the consumption becomes. Without me having an appointment, I visited the dealership and dropped my car to get checked. On February 28th, Monday, Mr. Carlos Reyes called me and said that there was no problem with my vehicle, they just added some oil and that it was fine; I told Mr. Reyes that he had to be kidding; I refused to pick up the vehicle until a proper diagnosis was done for the problem to be fixed. Mr. Reyes stated that they will have to open the engine of the vehicle to identify the problem, I told him to proceed and do it. Two days later, on March 2nd 2011 Wednesday, Mr. Reyes called me informing me that the vehicle was fixed. When I entered the dealership, I asked Mr. Reyes what the problem was, he said that two cylinders of my vehicle were burning oil and that they replaced the two associated fouled spark plugs along with a computer software update that would fix the problem, he also said that it is normal for my car’s engine, according to Honda standards to consume up to 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles, in other words it is normal for my vehicle, which I believe has a capacity of 5 quarts of oil to burn all of them and have not a single drop of oil after 5000 miles, my oil change due time. This is ridiculous! Note: during my last visit, Mr. Reyes stated that it was impossible to know if a car burns oil.
I started having a bad feeling about this and did some research online and also got advice from a third party mechanic. The mechanic told me that the fouled spark plugs and the software update do not have to do anything with the cause of the problem, he said that the problem is mechanical, probably the rings or the pistons inside the engine are worn out, which causes the oil to reach the spark plugs and get burned; the software does not have to do anything with the engine burning oil. Throughout my online research I found out that the mechanic was correct, the consumer reports show that the 2008 Accord was the worst car that Honda ever made, (http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/) there is a thread with people complaining about the same problem I am currently experiencing and the dealerships do anything on their power to avoid identifying and solving the problem. Check the link below. Some of the consumers had their engines replaced or rebuilt, oil was found in the spark plugs. (http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/Accord/2008/engine/excessive_oil_consumption.shtml)
The evening after, on March 3, 2011 Thursday, I visited DCH Paramus Honda and met with the Service & Parts Director, Mr. John Puglisi. I discussed with him all my concerns telling him that the software upgrade and the fouled plugs is not the cause of my car’s problem and that the problem comes from inside the engine; he kept insisting that I am wrong taking the classical defensive side. Mr. Puglishi also brought up the Honda standards stating that 1 quart oil consumption per 1000 miles is acceptable, I became furious and I asked him to grab a piece of paper, write that down and print and sign his name. He refused to do it, I then told him to contact his mechanics and get me in writing their standards stating that; he said that he cannot do that either and that it can only be given from the corporate offices. That same morning I had started a case with the Honda Corporate Offices.
The day after I called the Honda corporate to update my case and ask them about the 1 quart / 1000 miles standard. John from the corporate offices clearly stated that it is acceptable from Honda for their Honda Accord 2008 engines to consume 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles, and as I expected he said that he could not provide me with the standards documents and that he will try to see if he can do anything with it. That same morning my oil level was checked and pictures were taken, my car was overfilled with oil the day before from DCH Honda of Paramus, 1 quart of oil above the maximum level, so when I return a month later the level will be high and I would think that the car is fine. No one will imagine how a corporation like this can be so untrustworthy.
That afternoon I visited the dealership along with a coworker as a witness and met with the General Manager of DCH Paramus Honda, Mr. Brian Lam. I described to him what my problems were with the car and also the issues with his staff and he agreed with me that the software and the spark plugs is not the cause of my problem and that he will need to contact the Honda corporate offices to try helping me fixing the problem. Initially Mr. Lam stated that I should wait for 1000 more miles and then come back to check the vehicle. I refused by telling him that i had done that already without an outcome and that we both knew that the problem was mechanical and had nothing to do with the repairs they had performed so far. He agreed and said that he will work on the issue with the corporate offices and contact me by March 7th, 2011Monday. Lastly, Mr. Lam had Mr. Reyes take pictures of the excess oil level in the vehicle with their own camera while I was next to them. Those pictures were emailed from Mr. Reyes to me, to Mr. Lam and Mr. Puglishi.
I called Mr. Lam on Monday March 7, 2011 and left him a voicemail at the end of the day because I hadn’t heard back from him as he promised to call me. The day after I did not hear back form Mr. Lam again. The next day, I emailed Mr. Lam and he got back to me that same day, March 10th, stating that he will be having a meeting with Mr. Matt Hatch, a Honda Service Rep to discuss my case. The day after, March 11th, I received an email reply form Mr. Lam, and for one more time, I heard the same story, you can bring your car after 1000 miles to check it and then proceed. I decided to compromise and do it in order for Mr. Lam to possibly help me.
On April 18th, for one more time my car’s oil level was one and a half quart low regardless of the mileage, which means that the fouled spark plugs and the computer upgrade did not eliminate the problem. That day I sent an email to Mr. Lam giving him a last chance to fix the vehicle before I proceed with different means, lemon law. The vehicle was dropped at the dealership the day after, on April 19th. On April 20th, morning time, Mr. Reyes called me and told me that my vehicle is fine and that it lost only half quart of oil, I reminded Mr. Reyes to check his pictures with the excess oil they added to my engine and that it was one and a half quart instead, and advised him to get in touch with Mr. Lam and get back to me after they take responsibility and fix the problem, rebuild or replace the engine. A couple of hours later Mr. Reyes called me telling me that my vehicle is ready, I asked him what the problem was, Mr. Reyes stated that there was no problem, my next question was the following, why is my oil level low again? Mr. Reyes replied, I do not know. I became furious on the phone and Mr. Reyes told me that he will have Mr. Lam call me back and hang up on me. Mr. Lam neither called me nor had he replied to my email.
The day after, I exchanged several emails with Mr. John Puglishi, repeatedly asking what causes the oil consumption; he never answered my questions, he only stated that there is no problem with my car and that I can pick it up anytime. I refused several times to pick up the car unless a proper diagnosis was performed and the cause of the oil consumption was found. Mr. Puglshi stated that only one oil consumption test had been performed so far and two more were needed, to finalize their tests, while my car had been 3 times at the dealership for the same reason. I was also told from day one, that I faced the problem that I was under oil consumption tests. I asked Mr. Puglshi why the tests were not performed, through email; no answer was ever given. Here is the catch, DCH Paramus Honda assumed that the tests started after they had replaced my spark plugs, because they knew that it will provide some type of improvement. The dealership insisted on their point of view, not cooperating; I picked my car up because there was no hope.
After all, I decided not to visit DCH Paramus Honda anymore and I performed an oil change at the Garden State Honda, along with continuing the Oil Consumption Tests there. I heard the same things from that dealership too, if the vehicle consumes 1 quart/1000 miles there is no problem.
On Friday March 6th, I was on the phone with my case manager from Corporate Honda, Marryan, asking her to have my car checked in order to find out if it was burning oil, like all the other consumers, who were complaining online and also mentioning to her that some people had their engines replaced. Marryan, stated that no Honda dealership will check my car because there is no problem with it, I asked her that I pay out of my own pocket and do the diagnosis because many people online faced the exact same issue; she refused, I asked her If I can have a 3ed party diagnosis; she said I cannot, I asked her supervisor’s name to file in a complaint; she said that she is the head, I asked for an address to send a hardcopy complaint, she replied that she is the one who will receive it; Marryan made me extremely angry and I ended up hanging up on her; never ever in my life I have experienced anything like that and trust me i will make sure that it will not happen to anyone else. I will update you on Marryan’s case after everything has been resolved with my car.
After all, i decided and filed in a Lemon Law suit against DCH Paramus Honda. I have on my hands 3 invoices from one of the most reputable Auto Repair Shops in the US., stating that my car is burning oil excesively, while DCH Honda of Paramus was refusing it. In addition to that, it is shown that the vehicle burns more than 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles, which Honda assumes that is acceptable.
My advice is the following: DO NOT WAIT, FILE IN A LEMON LAW SUIT IMMEDIATELY AND FOLLOW YOUR LAWYER’S ADVICE THEREAFTER! NEVER BUY A HONDA UNTIL THEY HAVE NEW STANDARDS, IT MIGHT BE ACCEPTABLE FOR HONDA, FOR THEIR ENGINES TO CONSUME 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES; HOWEVER, IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A CONSUMER!!!
I will update you on the status of my case.
SHAME ON YOU DCH PARAMUS HONDA AND HONDA CORPORATION!!!
I have a bad experience , too.
Andy kato refused quoting. .
He ordered me “get a way (back to your home)“ if you don’t want to buy .
He is very bad attitude. I feel disgusting.

After appointment with Andy Kato, I visited DCH Honda to meet him .
Because he is one of a car sales man to be able to communicate Japanese language .I am not accustomed to speak English.
But his attitude is very bad and terrible. crazy salesman.
First he mentioned that I will not quote today.
He mentioned that if you decide to buy a new car from me , I prepare document . making a contract.
That’s it.
In other word, no price negotiation,
He mentioned that the customer must agree suggested price without price negotiation.
His suggested price is no discount plus adding no useful option.
I doubt not only his attitude but also DCH company policy.
Where is the customer satisfaction, Where is customer first.
It is terrible. Ridiculous .Without price negotiation, nobody can buy.
He clearly mentioned that American car salesman is not so good as an occupation.
And customer support is terrible, compare to other country.
I understand his intention that he support (justify) his terrible attitude by himself.
I explained my policy that without confirming quote , I can not decide to buy a car.
Generally speaking ,car sales man is willing to quote and willing to explain not only cost but also characteristic of the car carefully.
And there is the principle that “Customer First” for every country , any type of industry.
But he did not change his attitude. So I went to another Honda Dealer.
I visited Hudson Honda, A sales person is very gentle , kind , sincerity, and making every effort to make a contract.
I am satisfied with price , customer support , attitude etc.
After several months, a talk of the car sales was reflected on our topic when we enjoyed drinking.
One of my friend strongly recommend that a person considering to buy car should avoid as much as possible to deal with DCH HONDA , Andy Kato.
He mentioned that Andy Kato is notorious car sales man, his attitude (careless attitude to customer).
And he said bad news that there was many rumor that a contract price was different from an estimate price without detailed explanation.
Is he a swindler?
He palms off the car option which customer refused to buy .
Another men mentioned that Andy Kato request every customer to answer the inquiry from Honda USA that the evaluation of his attitude to the customer is best, (good service)
So Andy Kato can receive bonus (incentive) from Honda USA.
Every member is big laughing.
Every member regard him like a swindler and make a fool.
He is dirty and every Japanese must not trust him.
And this kind of rumor is spreading into Japanese society in NJ & NYC.
Andy Kato, his terrible attitude to customer is no good. not only DCH HONDA but also Honda USA ,Honda manufacture .
Without changing his thought process , DCH Honda will lose customer.
“Settled” on a deal, gave them a $500 deposit. After they cashed my deposits (within 2 days), they told me the deal wouldn’t go through due to credit check. Now, I am fighting with them to get my $500 deposit back. I hope I see this money again.
