I went to Christopher Kia after searching online for a specific 2013 Kia Soul + with the sound system upgrade and they were the only ones with that type. I was hoping it would be different than your typical high pressure, haggling, feeling of being a victim, being at a dealership experience and at first it was. The first salesperson I spoke with seemed great and then days later when I went back to test drive the Kia Soul I was thinking about buying and the second salesman seemed great too. I had him tell me exactly what additional fees would the final contract have and he gave me what I thought at the time was the total list.
We decided on meeting the next day to purchase the vehicle so my wife and I showed up and in the middle of them getting paper work ready the manager told us they would honor the same interest rate of 2.74% that our bank approved us for, so we figured “Great! No trip to the bank during rush hour.” We sat down, signed a couple of papers. The original salesman sat down and was showing us the Ipod adapter he said it was a bonus $35 value they included with every purchase of a Soul.
After about an hour and a half of signing papers my wife and I left to get lunch while they got the final documents ready. Upon returning they whisked us over to the finance man in the other building. We sat down and he showed up with some papers and he seemed very rushed. He was suppose to explain to us additional optional warranty info but instead asked us “Do you plan on having this car forever?” My wife and I looked at each other with a bit of puzzlement and then before we could really respond he start shoving papers in front of us and rushing us to sign.
He pushed the loan breakdown papers to me and I noticed it said our rate would be 3.5%. I told him we were approved for 2.74% even the manager told us so. He looked at us with disgust and disbelief. I asked him to talk with the manager who told us so, but he refused and told me that can’t be true because of our credit score. I looked to our salesman who was there when the manager told us that and he just shrugged his shoulders and said “Must be a communication error.” Eventually in his desire to to get us to sign and get us out of there he simply said, go to your bank tomorrow and get a loan from them instead. So much for making it easy on us and saving us a trip to the bank, huh?
With no time wasted he whipped out the long “Motor Vehicle Contract of Sale” and like everyone should I started reading over it carefully noticing additional charges that were never mentioned to me earlier from the salesman. For one they tried to sell me the so called “Bonus Free $35 Ipod Adapter” for $39. When I told them I was told by the first salesman it was included, he firmly said “No!” Once again I turned to our salesman for help and he once again said “Communication error.” They didn’t even try to contact the first salesman to verify. The finance guy ran into the back, printed out another contract without the adapter on it and as he was running back to the desk yelled with anger to our salesman “TAKE IT OUT OF THE GLOVEBOX!! THEY DON’T WANT IT!!”
I then noticed they had some $299 Theft Deter Reg which no one ever told me about. I asked him what that was and he very simply said “If your car gets stolen you get $5000.” I told him I was never told about this fee before so he said annoyed, “Okay we can remove it and you WON’T have coverage!” He ran to the back office, ran back to the table with a new printed contract with the Theft Deter Reg coverage taken off and with a loud, angry voice exclaimed “NOTHING MORE TO TAKE OFF!” and pointed to where I should sign. My wife and I took one look at each other, both with confusion and complete disbelief as to how we were being treated, and so I dropped the pen right there and told him I would think about it. He mumbled some words and bolted away to the back office.
It’s funny to me how many times I heard “Can I do anything for you?”, “How can I help?” “Any questions or concerns?” from the sales personal before the Contract of Sale came out, but soon as it was under me and I had legitimate questions and concerns as to things that were told to me, all of sudden they were no longer there to help, or care about my concerns or questions.
They without a doubt owe my wife and myself an apology for how we were treated and handled. They wasted our time, tried to pressure us into signing, and we went from being super excited about getting a new Kia Soul from what we thought was an actual “Honest and Fair” dealership to going home frustrated, upset, and simply shocked at how quickly they turned on us and treated us so rudely.
In the end it is mixed blessing though because I’ve already contacted other Kia dealerships and they have already stated as saying they will beat the price we were going to get our Soul for by a very substantial amount. I just have to wait a week or two for the kind of Kia Soul I want to come in.
Live and learn I suppose.
I bought a 2007 Kia Spectra. I loved the value of it. They were saleing the vehicle for $14,000 dollars I talked them down to $12,000 and when I got home realized my car is only worth $8,000 dollars. I’m pissed that I even bought a KIA. I will NEVER EVER buy another one and was the worst purchase of my life.:mad::mad:
Awesome dealer. Very helpful and unlike some of the other dealers they cared about what I could afford and really took the time with me and helped me understand every part of the buying process. I have refered 2 friends and 1 family member so far.
Buyer beware.. Really be careful
This car was purchased used and has been in for a new transmission and now a blown motor. We have asked for the history
Each time it has been an act of god to get any work done on the car. The excuses never end . The 1st repair took nearly a month and we thought we had a Kia rep following up on the day to day work. This is where things get very interesting.
Branden the service rep had us in contact with Phil. ( He calls and answers his phone KIA Motors) .
Once the motor blew we were told it was covered by warrenty. Branden assured it would be only a few days to get back on the road. 3weeks ago. Without the car all of a sudden when we asked for Kia to step in Phil starts calling to help. He offers to get involved but thinks it may be best to trade in the car and start agian. Did I mention Phil says he works for KIA? Well guess what, We found out Phil really is a sales manager at anther store owned by the KIA owner. Jerry seinner. What a Crook.
We now have KIA Motors USA working on our claim and they can not get the work done on the car. Branden says his fax is broken & can not send KIA the info? How many car dealerships only have a single fax? he then claimed he had incorrect e-mail address to KIA? Then he said the real KIA rep is out on leave.
The next problem we are now having is Branden has gone through the car and taken all receipts, manuals and and personal property. He says that he never entered the car,but he had the paperwork with him at the last visit.
KIA USA has made promise after promise but seems to have no control over there car dealers.
