If I could have I would have rated them below a 1 in every area!I will NEVER buy another car from this dealership! I don’t care if I have to walk first! We bought a vehicle from them and within 3 months of paying it off it was broke down. Not only that they turned us over to a collection agency saying that we didn’t pay the car off. Even though we had title in hand.My sister purchased a car from them and same as the gentlemen that posted earlier, she paid about $8,000 more than she should have. I heard that the owner recently had to put the business in his girlfriends name because he was in such hot water.I am SICK of this dealership taking advantage of deperate people! If it were up to me they would be run out of town!!!
How are these people alowed ostay in The Dalles … We have heard many bad stories about them.. Didnt they get kicked out of Washington for selling bad cars.. wHY THEY THINK THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE.. iF YOU DECIDE TO BUY TAKE A TAPE RECORDER IN AND TAPE THE WHOLE CONVERSATION.. tHAT WAY IF SOMETHING HAPPENS.. tHEY CANT SAY IT DIDNT.. iT’S A NICE PIECE OF EVEDINCE FOR THE COURT… sHAME ON THESE PEOPLE WAIT THEY ARE NOT PEOPLE THEY ARE JUST MONEY HUNGRY ANIMALS…….
They tell you what you want to hear and don’t follow thru with it. Yvvonne is very UNPLEASANT!!!!
ive had two different incedents with these guys. The first was with a ford 4 door that was all my husband could afford with a trade in, i was 7 months pregnant and desperate. things didnt end well and the car was repod cuz we were financially unstable.
the second time was recently i needed a car after my van took a steemer! im healing from an injury and needed a car desperatly~again~ my husband wasnt working and we have a toddler. we found a car that was decent and ran well. we we unluckly financed threw gold acceptance and they screwed us bad. we had a big down payment that the lot was nice to take payments on. but when it came down to the bank payment the bank charge us about 70 dollars more than our contract.
the guy that was working on our financing kept telling us not to worry and he would handle it. we payed half of it and he told us we shouldnt pay til its settled. so we waited. my family stopped by every day to see what was going on and he told us not to sweat. well my husband and i decided not to deal with it because i was tired of geting calls at work and arguing with gold acceptance. we called gaa and told them we would take the car back first thing in the morning. so what happened? that exact night after mark telling us that everything was fine we shouldnt worry and we wont get repoed. THEY SHUT OUR CAR OFF and tow it the next evening. i now have a negative on my credit report that makes it worse than it was and have lost all the money ive put down and payed. i am still desperate its hard to get around with a to year old with out a car. these guys realy need to be taken care of or at least learn how to treat people im a low income mother that works my ass off living paycheck to paycheck i know times are hard but they take advantage of the people like myself that are desperate. there is no where around herewould help me in a car with my income and credit!! : mad:: frustrated:: desperate:::want to cry!!::
I went to the lot because I found a SUV that I liked. I checked it over and visually it was in pretty good shape. Fairly low mileage for the year. It was winter time when I drove it so I couldn’t tell that the air conditioner was not working. Since it was night time I couldn’t take it to a mechanic. I got the speel that someone else was also looking at it so it may not be here tomorrow. So I went ahead with the deal. I traded my car in plus a down payment. And yes I got the 29.9% financing rate due to credit. My $6995.00 vehicle cost me almost $14,000.00 by the time I finished with payments. That wasn’t the winner. A couple of months after purchasing it I had to get the brakes redone. The same day I got it out of the shop I had to go to Goldendale. I noticed some knocking when I arrived to my destination. Unfortunately my engine went to crap. I did purchase the warrenty. Luckily I had my own towing coverage so I had it towed back to GAA. This was late at night. I got a rude phone call the following morning asking me what I wanted done with the vehicle. I told them to fix it. I was informed they didn’t have the time. And that I needed to come get it. I wound up taking it to my mechanic and had to put out another $2,000.00 to put a new motor in it. The lovely warrenty company wanted to put a used motor in it and charge me an arm and leg. I’ve put a new air conditioning unit in it, cataletic converter, O2 sensor, brakes twice, ball joints, idler arm and that is what I can think of off the top of my head. After my motor went I tried reaching Gary. I got his wench of a wife/girlfriend… whatever she is. She was really rude to me and wouldn’t allow me to talk to Gary. I will NEVER purchase anything from them ever again and I do tell everyone the same. If you want a screwing then go to Gary’s. Who I have noticed has changed their name to The Dalles Auto. Don’t be fooled, their vechiles are crap. And about the only one to post a positive comment is probably one of his friends. So all in all my $6995.00 vehicle has cost me $20,000.00.
I would have been better off keeping my trade in and investing $2,000.00 into it.
Walked in needing a vehicle, and I left with one (almost) the same day. Problem was, the transmission went out even before we left the lot! Waited almost a month to get it, and I should have got out when I had the chance. For a $7950 vehicle, it was shit. The window was broken (won’t roll up or down), and when I did get it, within a mile the ABS/Traction control lights came on, so neither are functioning apparently. I tried not to complain because I have TERRIBLE credit, but I wholeheartedly believe that this dealership AND the finance company (RELIANT FINANCIAL – NOW GOLD ACCEPTANCE) threw me for a loop. I didn’t research the vehicle and the MANY recalls it was plagued with, which is my own fault. I am now completely drowning in negative equity with this vehicle and I’m only halfway through my loan term. If I could, I’d chuck this thing over a bridge cause no other dealership wants it for a trade in. BEST BELIEVE THAT IN THE NEXT 8 MONTHS I WILL BE PURCHASING A NEWER, SAFER CAR FROM GRIFFITH MOTORS! If you’re reading this, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT buy from this dealership. They will pressure you to death, throw so many numbers, papers, and promises your way that will make your head spin. I was bamboozled once, and I will NOT return. It’s too bad that so many people buy from here because they promise to get you into a car….at a 29.99% interest rate with a finance company that doesn’t allow refinancing. I will admit that I have been back to this dealership in desperation to get out of this vehicle, but every time someone said “We will get you into a new car, just let me call you tomorrow”, no one effing called…
After an accident, my husband made the trip from Portland to Affordable Auto at the suggestion of my mother in law. He got us a fantastic Ford Explorer. We have had the vehicle for over 2 years with no problems till last month. They were very up-front and honest. All in all a very good experience. The Anderson Family
My family almost purchased an SUV from them but we declined after researching before we bought. That’s really the best thing you can do. The Deferred Down Payment scam is what turned us off. We went to a well-known, better car dealership in The Dalles after waiting for our tax return and purchased a used vehicle outright. We’ve owned it for 6 months now and it runs like it’s brand new, no problems, at all. Best investment we ever made.
My irresponsible brother purchased an SUV from them. It runs terrible, had 60k more miles on it than mine, and was 4 years newer. With his loan, deferred down payment, and interest, in 6 years he will have paid $22,000 for a car that’s KBB priced at $6995. I tried to talk him out of it. He’s stubborn.
I wish that companies like this were geared more for the average working man, instead of how to make a fast buck by screwing good people over who have less than stellar credit.
Maybe my first car buy from GAA was first timers luck, or a great brand:p. My wife seen a Jeep Wrangler on the lot and wanted to see if we cpuld buy it. Maybe lucky as happenstance, we got to look and drive the Jeep before any one in the service dept. could touch it. We liked it, got a fair enough price and was able to get financing we could afford. But the rate was very high! We had the jeep for almost a year without any problems intill the jeep crashed into a revean. Thank God for Jeep’s toughness, my wife escaped unharmed.:)
We:) returned to GAA to get another car. This time we grabed a Rodeo mainly becouse it was the only gig on the lot that we almost liked, (it’s hard to step down after loving the Jeep) and needed another car fast. Once we said we was intrested, they couldnt stick it to us fast enough. We paid twice the going value for it and still ended up with a very high intrest rate. Altho the Rodeo runs fine, it’s not a car we really injoy.
We have returned to GAA a few times looking for a better deal and find more hardball salesmanship, 1/2 turth’s, and “You’ld like this one better” sales pitches even though I know most of the staff, and they know us. Recently I started looking for a truck at 200 a month, and even told them not a penny more. I got shown rigs, nice ones too, that would Finance at 300 or more. The sales staff would not bargen and would not comment on the Financing at all, even though I know he knows more about it then I do.
I have known many folks that have gotten really bad buys fromm GAA.
I also know that the car buyer gets most of the gigs from auto auctions and ends up with cars thar would not sell in the big city.
Bottom line is “Know what your buying”
Even though I consider most of the staff at GAA as friends, I wont buy from them again inless it’s on my terms. Buseness is buseness, after all.
The car I first bought was a Saturn. I was told their mechanic checked it out for me and said it was good. The car was completely unsafe. The brakes were shot, the bearings were shot, the tie rods were shot and apparently I was lucky the front wheel did not come off as I was cruising I-84 at 70mph with my 5 year old kid. All I wanted was a decent running car for my family. I traded in my old car thinking I would get it. I never should have. I took the car back within 43 hours of buying it and demanded the return of my old car and money I had put down. I was told they would they would fix the Saturn. I then told them I would not take it back and again demanded my car and money. Then they told me that they do not rewind deals. Yvonne, the owners wife came out at that point and told me they would let me pick a different car. It was my only option and to suck it up. So I picked out a Hyundai Sonata. Did I mention how rude and awful Yvonne is and was? So, we then started talking terms. She refused to print out a car-fax for me on the car. She told me they would fix the air bag and as of yet have not. I told her I did not want to purchase a warranty. She told me I had no choice in the matter and if I did not buy the warranty then I would just stay in the Saturn because I had already bought the warranty. I told her it was illegal for her to force me into buying one and she said ‘ok, lets stop now and you can drive the Saturn home.’ Before all of this happened a second time I called a lawyer, the Attorney General and the Oregon Used Automotive Dealers Association on these people and was told that they did no in fact have to rewind the deal but it was illegal for them to force me into buying the warranty. So I guess I was given a choice, I could either have the completely unsafe car back or buy the stupid warranty for 1500$. So i got the warranty. I tried canceling it numerous times and it as not been done. But wait it gets better. I bought the car in early November and today it is June 19 and guess what…..they never turned the warranty in!! That is right people. I guess I just gave them 1500$ and in return I got nothing! So if you have or are planning on purchasing a vehicle from these people…take it from me and dont. Go anywhere else but there. The whole thing has been a nightmare. Are you wondering about my car? Well, in the first 6 months I have dumper over $2000 into it and am currently looking at putting 2 new upstream O2 sensors.:mad::(
I chose to work with this particular dealership because I have student loans that I can’t pay so my credit is pretty bad but I have to have a car so I can get to work. It is what it is. They have a sign out front that says, “Buy here, pay here.” That seems pretty honest and straight forward. So I looked around and found a car that appeared to be in good shape, drove nicely and was only about $199 a month. So they took down my info, ran it through the finance company and said that I couldn’t have the car I wanted. Okay, I wasn’t sure what part of “Buy here, pay here” involved a finance company but I was already on my way to a newer car so I didn’t mind that too much. We looked around and found what actually turned out to be a better car at a better price so I moved forward with that. Then just before I was about to sign the papers (after taking it to an independent mechanic of course) the car miraculously sold for cash. Okay, nevermind that I was going to buy that car; let’s see what else you have. So they then found me this perfect (to them) car that worked fine I guess but was boring as could be. The sticker was $8k. So I had them run the Blue Book on it and it came up at $6k. Uh, okay. They insisted that they had to charge me more because that’s how they made their money because their finance company charged them the difference between Blue Book low and high, regardless of how much under low they actually paid. So all told, they wanted me to pay 20-30% interest with 25% down on a car that I would be 25% upside down in before I even held the keys. And on top of all that, it wasn’t the car I wanted, it wasn’t the second car I wanted, and the monthly payments were twice what were advertised on the window. Needless to say, when they went back to “talk to the manager” again I bolted and ignored their phone calls.
Buyer beware with this lot. Do your homework. Calculate your APR. Know your Blue Book values. Take the car to an independent mechanic. Be prepared to haggle because they like to start out way in their favor and they play hardball. Or better yet, don’t get caught up with them in the first place.
My past experience in shopping for cars was a nightmare, they pressured me and talked me into a car that I was never happy with, until the day I traded it in. I went to Guaranteed Affordable Auto, I was very picky this time because of my last experience. I test drove 10 cars. They even let me take a few of the cars overnight to make sure it was the perfect vehicle for me. The car I finally selected I was able to test drive for several days before I did the final paperwork, they were extremely helpful when it came to the financing, due to my credit situation financing on my last purchase was dreadful. I cannot believe how low of an interest rate they were able to help me get, and the payment was lower than I anticipated.
I’m pretty sure you’re a realtive or close to the owner for you to be saying such great things about them. Yet everyone else has has crappy encounters with them.
I have bought atleast 10 vehicles from Guaranteed affordable autos over the last several year’s. In the past I have had a few problems with my vehicles and Gary the owner has always repaired the vehicles, and never charged me!No dealership has ever offered this kind of great service! I think he spends all his profit on repairs needed…….. over the year’s. They always have a great variety of vehicle’s for me to choose from, and I have never been turned down for financing, even though my credit is not the best. I will never buy from another dealership other than guaranteed affordable auto’s. They are my car dealer for life, and I would recommend them to anyone.
Why did you post twice? Are you trying to make their rating higher?
It says a lot about the cars being sold if someone goes through 10 of them in any single lifetime. Again, have an independent mechanic thoroughly inspect a car before purchase.

Forgot to add, If you have a car that breaks down within a specified amount of time, the dealership is required by law to fix it.

I found a well looking car on the lot and really began to save up for the down payment on the day that I went in to get a better look at the car I saw that many things were very wrong because I have a license to be a machanic specialist. It started off well the inside was nice, thanks to a amazing job by Gary’s Custom Auto Upholestry,A personal buddy that does completely amazing jobs on cars, boats and trucks! The inside was great and very clean but its just a false leading thing cause I began to think that if the inside was that nice the “outer under the hood” might not be as bad! Oh boy, was I wrong!!!!! There were so many problems with motor and transmission, It looked like they fixed it like Cave Men using sticks and rocks. there was even a rubber band in there I can’t tell you how far and how fast I ran away! That was a pretty bad place and I hope everyone that reads this thinks twice before ever buying from them! Why doesn’t The Dalles run these people out of town!
I have bought three vehicles from these guys and they all have run like CRAP!! The first one blew up on THE WAY HOME!! I took it back the next day and it was in their shop for a month and a half until I finally told them “I am coming in this morning and I am not leaving your shop until I drive out of it in my CAR!!” I drove out of their shop at 2pm that afternoon. The next one the way home (we live in a town 30 miles away) the check engine light came on, but since it’s an older rig we chose to fix it ourselves rather than wait for them to get around to it. Unfortunatly we don’t have any other easy credit dealerships around and we have a hard time getting financed. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE THIEVES!!!
We bought a suburban from these guys. It ran great for about a week, then it began to miss & knock. We purchesed the extended warranty so into the shop it went. The timing had been retarded 8 degrees, this visit cost us about 350 out of pocket. After we got the truck back a week latter it was way worse so back into the shop again, this time it cost us 700. out of pocket, Turns out the motors #5 cylinder is bad & rings are bad. At this point we had not had the truck over 4 weeks so I took it back, with all the paperwork as proof of problems and monies spent.
All I wanted was for them to place me in a different vehicle, I was willing to take the money out of pocket loss and they told me too bad, nothing we can do for you. I told them I would tell everyone I know about them & they laughed & said they had one guy out front with a bull horn warning people about them. It apparently didnt stop shoppers because this company preys on the people who are the poorest and in need of transportation the most. These guys sell these clunkers to welfare moms trying to get transportation so they can look for work and not be a drain on our economy but only to end up in a deep hole and a drain on the system longer. The City of The Dalles really needs to look at letting this “Brace” family, who runs this and other businesses, have a renewal on their business licence. These guys are fleecing our town! Why do they still have a business licence? This City should do something to put these guys out of business!
NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU NEED THE CAR, WAIT & BUY ELWHERE, OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT AS WELL FLUSH YOUR MONEY AWAY!
My 88 year old father was conned into co-signing a loan for a 1992 Honda AE by a woman for herself, who worked as a house cleaner for my father. The loan company was American General Finance Services in The Dalles.
A month after the purchase a tire blew out while the woman was driving with 3 young children in the car. My father purchased 4 new tires for her in sympathy for the future safety of the children.
We have given the dealership the benefit of the doubt and purchased more than once…every purchase was fraudulent and/or misleading. Our first and second purchases were made almost simultaneously. The first vehicle had a blown motor within a few months – this might be a typical risk but we are finding that as we talk to other buyers almost everyone has had major vehicle malfunctions. Our second vehicle we found to have two different VIN numbers, one on the car and replacement parts under the hood – no accidents were recorded so claiming it was probably a minor fender bender they avoided legal action.
Three times, shame on us…we aren’t A+ Credit buyers and this dealership is the only option for financing for people with imperfect credit in our area. Most people that purchase there are like us and have no alternatives but needed reliable transportation for their families. The third car purchase has been the worst!
The dealership failed to payoff our trade-in for almost two months, they also did not send paperwork to the courthouse so we could license and register it for almost two months and we had to drive an illegal vehicle for that time period (Washington only allows one 10 day trip permit.) We paid $1900 for an extended warranty that the company failed to purchase. We were forced to have attorney’s send letters, then file a lawsuit for this amount, and now we are owed a judgement they have failed to pay! We garnished their bank account and after receiving a portion of our lawsuit from the garnishment, they closed their account.
EVERY contact I’ve had with other buyers from Guaranteed Affordable Auto in The Dalles, OR has been exactly like this. I have yet to come across a satisfied customer. We are standing up against this company as so many have been unable to do due to their circumstances.
Even if you are in a bad credit situation, take the large amount they will require down for a purchase, and pay cash outright for a vehicle. They charge more than triple the value for these unsafe, unreliable vehicles and the interest far exceeds 20-24%…it is not worth it!
Wow, I was also about to give them a second chance eventhough they completely screwed us. After reading your review I have decided to look elswhere. I even posted my own GAA horror story. I really do not understand how they are able to keep a business license, Thanks
