I switched over to Brighton Ford when the dealer I purchased the car from, Tom Holzer Ford said “there is no problem” with a electrical problem. Brighton ford found and fixed the problem, that I will praise them for, cost, that is another issue, bring your wallet. But the problem was fixed.
Worst car buying experience ever. Dishonest salesman. Tried to do bait and switch by including add ons we did not want. We discovered this when we received the final paperwork. Saleman very rude when we pointed it out and said he didn’t think it would matter. Finance guy and saleman both told us how to fill out the customer satisfaction survey that we would received. Said we needed to mark only “completely satisfied” and showed us a laminated example with those boxes checked. Not interested in honest feedback. Save yourself 5 hours and go somewhere else.
Very pushy…. A know it all salesperson .
Interested in buying a car, we called and were told the vehicles we wanted to see would be pulled up, heated, and ready for us to test drive. When we got to the dealership (on time for a scheduled appt), no cars were waiting for us.
A rather unprofessional female salesperson began to search their inventory for the car we wanted to see. When we asked why there weren’t any vehicles ready as promised, she rudely quipped, “Well, it doesn’t matter. I found one for you to look at.” She insisted on accompanying us on the test drive (during which, she managed to make some rude comments combined with offensive body language/eye rolling, including a close-catch-of-the-tongue as she nearly blurted out the “F” word!). On top of that, she wasn’t even knowledgeable about the vehicle she was trying to sell us. (We, ourselves, even had to wipe the salt off the window to look at the window sticker to see what options were on the car!)
When we got back to the dealership and waited for our own vehicle to be appraised, a man actually walked into the showroom and complained about the poor service he had received there. We sat there, incredulous, as the entire sales floor began to laugh at and mock the unsatisfied customer! We knew then that this dealership was NOT going to get one dime of our hard-earned money. When the sales manager (Steve) came to tell us what they would give for our vehicle, we politely declined and thanked them for their time. Before leaving, however, we told the sales manager that we thought it was unnecessary for his entire sales staff to laugh at the aforementioned unsatisfied customer. His response: “Well, it was unnecessary for him to come in here and complain.” Really?? Clearly, from the top down, this dealership couldn’t be more awful!
Called on a pre owned Taurus listed on the internet. The car was beautiful and Jack did a great job in showing all the “toys” and how they worked.
The Finance Guy, Scott, made it fit below my budget!! All in all it was an awesome experience. You’ll have my business forever!
Bought a new 2011 Focus Monday Wednesday the wrench light came on pulled off in to a gas station to look at the manuel to see what that ment. (bring in to dealership) tryed to reverse to leave… wouldnt move… transmission gone 96 miles on it … only had it for two days. Anyway had to have it towed to dealership while in a snow storm… caused bad bumper damage. Now the dealership is saying I was in an accident / ended up in a ditch… not telling the truth. I WAS IN NO ACCIDENT… NO DITCH. Now I am told I have to pay for a new transmission/!!!! I have had it for 2 DAYS… 96 MILES ON THE THING AND ITS MY FAULT!!! We have been treated soooo badly. Yelled at … basically told we are lying. I am a Ford employee and I have to say I won’t buy Ford again. It’s sad and I am embarrassed by Ford!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALERSHIP…you will be treated poorly.
I was lead to believe I was signing a 3 year lease on a vehical. The sales person sent me home with an envelope full of papers that I had signed, which I realized the next day the contract wasn’t inside this envolope. I went to Brighton Ford the following day of the purchase and saw the sales person asked for the contract. He said come back later today and I’ll get it for you. I went back and he was gone. I went the next day, this time he seemed very impatient and told me he was in the middle of something, come back the next day he said. I came back the next day and asked for my copy of the contract, this sales person said he had gave it to me the day of the sales. I argued it but he began to be VERY condescending. I felt intimidated and stupid, so I dropped the whole thing. And yes, it was a very stupid thing for me to walk out whithout checking that envelope and making sure the contract was in there. About a year later, I found out I signed a 5 year lease on a newly USE vehical. Huntington Bank would be the only bank to allow such a transaction at the time. By the time my lease would have been up I would have paid $24,000 for a $ 12,000 vehical. I will not put the name of the sales rep, because he is deceased.
I also had a terrible experience with Brighton Ford-Mercury when purchasing a 2009 Ford Focus. The car itself is decent but my entire experience was terrible.
Some background info:
I drove a variety of Japanese cars for the last 20 years including Toyota, Nissan and Subaru which I have been extremely pleased with. But living in Michigan I thought I should do the right thing and support our domestic auto manufacturers. I decided to go with a Ford Focus based on fairly positive reviews and because of good rebates/discounts they offered at the time.
When I test drove my Focus it was completely covered in dust/dirt making it hard to examine the body. The salesperson assured me that before I came by to sign the contract it would be detailed. The day I came to sign and pickup the car it was pouring rain outside and they dealership did not have the common sense to have the car inside and dry for me to view. The new car sales manager (Steve) gave me his word that if there was anything wrong with the car to bring it back and he would take care of it for me.
As I got into the car to leave I noticed grease like stains on the two front seats so they took it back to the detail shop and had to clean the spots out.
The next day when the car was dry in my garage I noticed a deep scratch on the front fender. I brought the car back to the dealer and they had to keep the car for 3 days and actually break the paint seal and repaint the entire fender. I really hated to have body work done on a brand new car but I went along with it. They did not offer to give me a loaner car either.
Sure enough after getting the car back I examined it closer and felt that it had way too many minute scratches or swirl marks in the paint. It me it appeared that whoever detailed it may have wiped the dust/dirt into the paint. I took it back to Brighton Ford and my salesperson was sighing and acting like I was inconveniencing her. I ended up talking to the new car sales manager (Steve) who was not much better. He said he could not rub-out the entire car for me, which is not what I was asking him to do. He even had to nerve to point out that it cost him $400.00 to fix the scratch in the front fender. Like it was my fault they sold me a brand new car with a scratched fender.
I was disappointed with the salesperson and sales manager when filing out a survey from Ford Motor Company I expressed my concerns with Brighton Ford Mercury.
During the next week or so I kept examining the car and noticed other problems. The inside of the trunk was partially dismantled with screws missing that hold some components in place. I also noticed what appeared to be bubbled up paint on the rear quarter panel on the same side of the car where the front fender was scratched.
Ford opened a complain case and contacted me. They took down my information including the recently discovered issues and said they would follow-up with the dealer themselves. I was happy to hear this because I did not want to deal with the terrible salesperson and sales manager.
Sure enough someone from Brighton Ford contacted me and said to take the car to their body shop and they would take care of it. This was about 4 weeks since the car was purchased.
When I finally had a day off work I took the car to Brighton Ford’s body shop and they claimed the bubbled up looking paint was actually touch-up paint someone put on to mask some minor scratches/chips in the paint. They said it would cost about $390.00 to repair and to go back to the dealer to have them approve it. I went back to discuss this with the new car sales manager Steve. Of course Steve was no help at all. He insisted Brighton Ford did not put the touch-up paint on the car. I sure the heck didn’t touch up the paint on the car. He also said since it was now two months since the car was purchased how did he not know that it didn’t just happen. I told him that Ford had a complaint case documented that the condition existed a week after the car was purchased and I could have them contact him but he said it would not matter because Brighton Ford was not going to fix the issue. He was very sarcastic and rude saying things like he could not repaint the entire car. This was rude and ridiculous to say since I was only asking for him to correct the one problem on the rear quarter panel that I noticed a week after the car was purchased.
So it is very clear that the salesperson and new car sales manager both do not care about repeat business or their customers. I was very clear with Steve that if he did not correct the car I would have it serviced elsewhere and he basically said he could care less.
I will never purchase another vehicle from Brighton Ford-Mercury and suggest you try another local Ford dealer such and Krug in Howell.
In fact this experience was so bad I will most likely go back to Subaru, Nissan or Toyota. My experiences with Suburban Nissan, Dunning Subaru/Toyota located in Ann Arbor Michigan were always excellent with the car sales and service. It’s sad how the domestic car companies are hurting the staff at Brighton Ford-Mercury is hurting them further with terrible service.
Who was your sells person? Please let me know right away, I have a Ford Escape coming tomorrow and this has gotten me to thinking about some things that have happened during the buying process. Thanks…
Hi Bluesky. The sales person at the time was Mark Whaling. He has since past away. What was done is very illegal, but very hard to prove. Be sure to check the contract carefully and that you walk out the door with it…unlike me. I’m not saying all the sales people at Brighton Ford would do this, but like I said be careful. Also, be sure to check anything that is blank on the contract, to where someone would take the contract in a different room after you signed it and change some numbers. I’ve heard of that happening as well at that particular dealership. Good luck!

I’m not sure why that went through like six times.:D
