My wife and I are both senior citizens and we were looking for a reliable auto dealership to make our new car purchase. After reading all of the rave reviews about Bob Davidson we felt very comfortable dealing with them. However, after our horrible experience dealing with these people, we are wondering if they wrote all of those glowing reviews themselves. The Bob Davidson people that we dealt with were certainly not what we expected them to be. Here is an account of what happened: My wife and I received a written quote from very nice lady at Bob Davidson for a factory ordered 2015 Lincoln Navigator. She was very eager to beat the price of a competitor and so she revised her price by about $1,000 less than her competitor to seal the deal. When I told her that I accepted her quote she asked me to come to the dealership to give them a $500.00 deposit so that they could order the vehicle. At that time she had been very nice to us and there was no reason for me to suspect that she was lying or that she was setting us up – but that is exactly what happened. When my wife and I arrived at the dealership the lady immediately handed us off to a new salesman that had absolutely NO knowledge of the quote she had provided or what had transpired between the lady and us. That was the last time we ever saw her as she retreated to a restricted area of the dealership. After we waited several hours for the new salesman to get the paperwork prepared I asked him to give me a final copy of the sale for my review and records to make certain everything was ordered correctly. It was only then that our young salesman told us that the alleged General Manager had no intention of honoring the quote that his own dealership gave to us – in writing. This GM had fabricated some story about us not qualifying for the discounts that THEY had applied to my quote. However, as stated above, the quote the lady gave to us had nothing to do with discounts as she clearly wanted to beat the competitions price. To show you how nasty these people really are – think about this – since the GM was obviously aware of the quoted price WHY would he have waited until several hours had passed before telling us that he was not going to honor his quote? Wouldn’t you think that the GM would have had the decency to do that when we first walked into the showroom? Don’t you think that is a very mean thing to do to two old people? Believe me, the revised quote from this lady was strictly so that she could BEAT her competitor’s price and get us into their showroom. It had nothing to do with incentives or discounts. In fact the lady wrote to me and told me that Bob Davidson “aggressively prices their factory ordered vehicles” and that she “can beat the price” from the other dealership. She made no mention of or references to adding more incentives or discounts to her quote. What reason would I have not to believe her and why would any General Manager not honor his own quote? Another thing to consider is that if what the General Manager said is true – that would mean that this lady had full knowledge of the fact that I didn’t qualify for the discounts that she had applied to her quote. That would mean that she had deliberately lied to me knowing full well that the GM would raise the price once we arrived at the dealership. In addition, a Sales Manager had to approve her quote before she released it. I can only figure that her actions were a scam designed to move us away from the other dealer and then draw us to theirs.
Once we arrived they would waste hours of our time filling out paperwork and then refuse their quote in an effort to take advantage of us. I suppose that they thought we would cave in and agree to pay the extra money since we had sat in their show room for so very long and were becoming very uncomfortable. That’s right – my wife and I sat in the show room for hours not a nice comfy office. We were not offered any coffee or water. Remember, we are trying to purchase a vehicle worth over $70,000.00 dollars. My wife and I couldn’t believe that we were being treated like this. We have never been to any dealership that would treat their prospective customers this way let alone renege on their own quote? As a side note, when our newly hired salesman was flurrying about with the paperwork my wife and I happened to see that the quote we were given by the lady was already APPROVED by one of the Sales Managers (and we know his name). We saw this on Bob Davidsons own worksheet (which I suspect we were not supposed to see) When we confronted them with this information – instead of apologizing to us for being dishonest, not honoring their quote and for wasting our time – instead they denied it and tried to blame ME for the bad quote claiming that I had added additional discounts and incentives to their quote. I was shocked that any intelligent person would make such a preposterous statement. How would that even be POSSIBLE? I didn’t write my own quote and then send it to myself from them. How ridiculous to even suggest such an idiotic possibility. The GM continued on with his silly story about us not qualifying for the discounts that THEY themselves had applied to our quote. However, as I stated above, the quote the lady gave to us had nothing to do with discounts. Furthermore, this GM was so rude to us that he did not even have the common courtesy to get up out of his chair to see if he could help resolve this disagreement. Instead he dismissed my wife and me with a royal wave of his hand. Apparently, in his mind, he must think that he is a person of some importance. We ignored this pompous arrogant little man and took the problem to another alleged General Manager who then proceeded to waste more of our time. Rather than make an attempt to resolve the problem or work with us towards a compromise or, at the very least, apologize to us for being dishonest and not honoring their own quote – this GM ranted on vigorously trying to defend and justify their screw up. Why would they spend so much time & effort trying to cover up the error that they made? In addition to that, they made NO EFFORT to try to find a way to settle the problem in order to keep us as a customer. Even more mysterious is that they would not let us talk to the lady that made the deal and that gave us the written quote. In fact, she NEVER talked to us again nor did she come out of her tiny little office to help us clear up this situation. We told them that she was the key that could solve the problem as she was the one that made the deal and provided the quote but they would not allow us to see her. It soon became very apparent that they were covering up for her faux pas and had figured out a way to make it look almost legitimate. These people were simply unbelievable and they should be held accountable for what they did to my wife and me. What kind of dealership treats an elderly couple this way? Also, just in case you were wondering, my credit score is in the high 700’s and I currently own a 2013 Cadillac Escalade Platinum Edition and a 2010 Lincoln MKS (both completely paid for) so these people did not brush us off because we have bad credit. One final note, I have kept all of this information documented in writing and I have copies of the emails back and forth between me and this lady at the dealership. In addition, I will be submitting all of the emails and my letter to the States Attorney General and to the Better Business Bureau to let them review it and draw their own conclusions. This dealership should be ashamed of themselves for treating us this way and I sent an email to the lady to let her know it.
