WORST DEALERSHIP EVER! This place is full of grumpy old men. Seriously, Bill Ramsey, RETIRE! I went to this dealership with a cashier’s check from my bank. I knew the exact truck I wanted and I was not going to settle for less. I could not get this guy motivated to sell me a truck. I have never been so insulted in my life. He literally tried to talk me out of buying a truck today. He started stammering about he didn’t think I was serious enough, and he wasn’t quite sure I was ready. I explained to him that I was ready to buy a truck. I have the money and I just needed him to appraise my trade, tell me what he would give me for it, and tell me what his best price was on the truck and then we could go from there. I would think he would appreciate my no nonsense approach since he knew I was a guaranteed sale. Instead, he advised me that I was welcome to leave, since I was getting so frustrated with him. So, that is what I did. Thank you, Bill Ramsey for wasting my time, and for sending me on my way to work with a nice dealership and salesperson.
There are 17 Chevrolet dealerships that are closer to my home than Cavender Chevrolet in Boerne, but I was more than happy to make the drive and I’m here to explain why. This is the 6th vehicle we have purchased through the Cavender family and it is because of (1) their exceptional customer service and (2) the honesty and fairness in their dealings.
As a USAA customer, I started researching the 2010 Camaro through their car buying service program. I narrowed my selection down to 2 models with exact specifications of the color and features that I required. I knew what the vehicle “should” cost and I also knew that there was a $750 incentive being offered on the purchase of a GM vehicle through USAA.
My first contact was with John Minjares, the internet sales manager, in response to my online query. As a weekend shopper, I’d started the process on Sunday evening and was amazed to hear back from him via email that same night! The following day, John emailed me copies of the pricing sheets on my 2 vehicles which contained all the information about the models as well as the cost of Cavender’s investment in the cars (the “honesty” thing I made reference to earlier)! After exchanging a few emails and phone calls on Monday, I made an appointment to test-drive one of the cars the following day.
***Side note – USAA sent out my online request for information to both Cavender and Benson Chevrolet. The only response I received from Benson was 2 automated emails from 2 different people. Never did receive a phone call. Benson could learn a lot about the aforementioned customer service from the Cavender family!
When we arrived at the dealership, we went to the office of Mike Strauss, the general manager. We had purchased a 2009 Avalanche on Christmas Eve through Mike and wanted to let him know how much we were enjoying the truck. Mike then introduced me to John Minjares and Ernest Estrada, the salesperson who would later give me a thorough demonstration of all of the car’s features including the set-up of my OnStar services. Ernest escorted me to the Camaro for my test-drive and, after the ride, I knew I had to have it! I had already been informed that the car that met all of my requirements was not in stock and that it would have to be brought in from a different Chevrolet dealership in Austin. Again with the exceptional customer service, Cavender offered to deliver the car to me at my home in Wimberley, 55 miles away!! Wow! I declined the offer, opting instead to come to the dealership the next day to take possession and have some custom pin striping done on both the Camaro and the Avalanche while there. Before leaving, I met with the finance manager, Kathy Dozier, to finalize the paperwork on my purchase and that was a real treat! Kathy is the perfect blend of personality, humor and professionalism, while explaining all of the financing & warranty options with no hard-sell! It was during this meeting that the above-mentioned $750 GM allowance was brought up and it didn’t come from me! Mike Strauss and Kathy informed me that it had been applied to my purchase without me having to request it (remember the “honesty” mentioned above????) 😉
On Wednesday, Tommy Pipes (new car sales manager) had Justin of “Stripes by Larry” meet us at the dealership so we could design and oversee the application of our pin stripes. Justin does an AMAZING job (his 13 years of experience was evident!) and we were thrilled with the outcome!
In closing, Stuart Cavender and all of the folks I mentioned really took a personal interest in making this purchasing experience one that exceeded my expectations! If customer service, honesty and fairness are as important to you as it is to me, I highly recommend Cavender Chevrolet!!
