I went to Pohanka Honda in Marlow Heights, MD. The dealership service dept is a rip-off. I only ask to get my oil change and the lied to me that I needed new tires. I just bought new tires on January 2012 and nothing was wrong with them. The also told me I needed new brakes and again nothing was wrong with my car. When they do 100,000 mile maintenance, they do not check everything and again nothing was wrong. The dealership is only about taking your money but not doing their job to maintain your vehicle. They will never receive my business again and I do not recommend them to my friends and family. I rather take my business in Bethesda were I will be treated fairly and they will do the job correct the first time. The rating will go down when it comes to Pohanka Honda. On a scale 0-5 I will rate them -5.
I want to thank my salesperson Andrew Kelly for his exceptional customer service and outstanding salesmanship. Purchasing my first Honda was an effortless process from beginning to end and the value I received for my trade-in was extraordinary!
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that on a recent unscheduled visit to the dealership, Andrew took the keys and had my SUV washed, vacuumed, tires glossed and the interior freshly scented for me. Wow! With service like that, I’m a customer for life! Thank you Andrew.:)
For the best car buying experience, Pohanka Honda in Marlow Heights, MD is the place to go, hands down.

I had looked at lots of cars before deciding on the Honda Fit. But after I decided that I wanted the Fit, I had trouble finding the car I wanted and at a decent price.
After haggling with two local Virginia dealers, I was frustrated.
Especially annoying also were the two Costco dealers:
Fairfax Honda-Sent me a generic E-mail, but never called me (still haven’t), and when I called them, they did not pick up the phone
Brown’s Honda-Wanted me to come in even though they did not have the car I wanted, finally confirmed that the Costco price was higher than the current prices I already had and they would not beat the price.
So I sent out requests to all the dealers in the area, including nearby Maryland dealers. I got the usual offers that substituted the Base model for the Sport model and manual transmission for the automatic transmission. Many dealers would not give a price at all, not by E-Mail or phone and insist that I come in to their showroom. No telling how many offers had hidden costs to them like high processing fees, unneeded coverages, unneeded options.
But I received one offer by E-Mail from Aubrey Farrare of Pohanka Honda in Marlow Heights (wife’s GPS finds it as Temple Hills), that not only had the correct car and options, but also detailed freight, tax and all other fees that I would pay for the car.
My local dealer had said that they would match any price I got elsewhere, and since their deal was $1000 off of Aubrey’s deal, I asked them to match it, and they refused. They were also charging me for wheel locks, as all the cars come with them, so we have to charge you for them.:devil(
So I called Aubrey and discussed the price he sent me, and I had checked and knew they had the car I wanted in stock. He said that yes, that price was good until the end of the month (that day). I told him I also was looking for carpet floor mats and a center console for the car and asked how much extra they would be. Aubrey told me that he was trying to meet a sales goal and if I came in and bought the car that night he would throw them in for free. It also came with the wheel locks the other dealer was going to have to sell me, but at no charge!
So I drove across the Woodrow Wilson bridge into Maryland (two exits to 4B), and sealed the deal. No games, no bait and switch, no hidden fees, easy as pie. I only wish I had started shopping there rather than haggling elsewhere and trying to track down Costco prices.
Best and easiest car deal I have ever made!
I made contact with Pohanka Honda via the cars.com internet portal, and received information from Veronica Johns within the day. She was very responsive to my questions, asked all the right questions, and provided me with the best price for the car I wanted – a Honda EX Hybrid (w/Navigation). Unlike other responses I received from other dealers, Ms. Johns’ responses did not come with hidden fees, messages, and all the other nonsense one has come to expect of car dealers. When I arrived for my appointment, Ms. Johns handed me over to Aubrey Farrare who put me in the car I wanted, gave me a great deal, and answered all my questions honestly. He also gave me a great price on my trade-in car, arranged for the financing I wanted, and never once did he push me towards options I wasn’t interested in. Signing the papers was hassle-free, courtesy Barbara Harris, Pohanka Honda’s Finance Manager, and I drove off with my car that same day. I drove off stunned and surprised as I’ve never ever dealt with a car dealership that was honest, personable, polite, and efficient (and I have dealt with far too many). My partner who was with me through the whole process felt the same way. In summary, Pohanka Honda restored my faith in customer service in the US, which has taken a real beating in the US over the last 10 years. I wholeheartedly recommend Pohanka Honda.
Well, we got bamboozled again!!! After almost an hour drive to Pohanka Honda, I find that they are skunks. We had a deal for the precise car and color I wanted. This was all confirmed over the phone. The saleswoman, Veronica Johns, told me it was ‘clean’, not loaded with add-ons, as I requested. I told her all I wanted as an add-on was the mud-flaps, which she said added a cost of $189. We agreed. She said she got the car on Monday from another dealer. I said I could come down on Saturday. We test drove the car today. I mentioned that it had the mud-flaps. She said, ‘Yes, it is a very clean car’. No mention of any additional add-ons. So we fill out the financing paperwork. Then, she casually mentioned the add-on package came to $590…wheel locks and door edge guards, and the mud-flaps. I said, I thought we had an agreed price with only mud-flaps. She then said every car comes with a ‘package’. (What if the ‘package’ was $1000, or $2000? I guess I should pay for that without any prior knowledge?) She got the car from another dealer and had the car for 5 days before we showed up to purchase the car. She could have told us before we wasted our time coming out. We were treated in an arrogant and flippant manner. I had made it perfectly clear what I wanted and what I wanted to pay and she had agreed. Then to top this off, we asked for the financial paper work we filled out that had our personal financial information on it. The sales manager, Gregory Pearce, (he said he is also the owner) refused. Since we had no deal, I don’t think he has the rights to this information. I called the police. They said it was more of a civil matter and the sales manager pulled out some FDIC regulation (Section 226.25 Record Retention) that said they much keep certain paperwork on file for 2 years. More baloney. Well, since the deal never went through, I don’t think he has this right. But what a great way to treat a customer!
The prior weekend, we had a similar bad experience with Bowie Honda. They said they would honor the USAA buyer service price. After having to haggle with them and not honoring the USAA price and adding $800 in add-ons, we walked out.
I researched all the local dealerships for a 2010 Accord and after comparing prices, I emailed Pohanka for an appointment. After visiting Pohanka, I purchased a new Accord on 6-26-2010. This is Honda number 6 for me 😀 and four of my previous Hondas were brought from Pohanka with my most recent being a 2006 Odyssey. I barely stay in the dealership for 2 hours selecting, test drving, negotiating, and signing documents. Veronica Johns is so sweet, patient, and courteous. Her pleasant attitude is one of the reasons I came back to Pohanka. The sales manager Greg Pearce and I have negotiated all five of my Honda cars/vans. He is always professional, knowledgeable, and honest (yes honest about his promises about your vehicle):). I have recommended Pohanka to my daughter who brought her Honda from here and to several friends. I appreciate the great service and hassle-free bargaining that Greg Pearce and his staff provide. Thanks Pohanka for helping me spend my money in Maryland instead of elsewhere. Keep up the good work and providing customer satisfaction and Pohanka will remain a premier car dealership in Prince Georges County. Thanks again Veronica and Greg and all the staff that has helped me over the years. Ms. Tillman , P.G. County resident and Honda Lover 😉
I recently purchased a 2010 Honda Civic from Pohanka Honda, and it was the best experience ever. I did my shopping around, I went to Ken Dixon, Ourisman, Honda of Bowie, College Park, and Landmark. None of those dealers compared to the customer service I received from Aubrey Farrare @ Pohanka.
We did the negotiation over email. I told him what price I wanted to pay compared to what offers I received from the other dealers. He was honest with me and told me that my offer was unrealistic, but was still willing to help me out. He then gave me his best price, which was roughly $500 below the best price I had. I told him I would do some more research and call him back.
The next day I set up an appointment with him. When I arrived he had the car already cleaned and fueled for me, I looked the car over, signed papers and less than an hour later went home Happy, Stress Free, and Excited with My Brand New Civic!!!!!
I would recommend all my family and friends to Aubrey Farrare.:)
I was looking to buy a Honda Odyssey after my car suddenly died. I was in a little bit of a hurry but also was looking for the best deal. Aubrey worked with me via email and worked with me to get me a deal that no other local dealer would give. No hassle at all! He was honest, friendly and accommodating. We showed up to the dealership, signed the paperwork and walked out with our new car with no issues at all. It was the easiest and most pleasant buying experience ever. I would recommend anyone looking for a Honda to work with Aubrey Farrare and Pohanka Honda .
I recently financed a brand new Honda Accord from Pohanka Honda. It was a great experience for me. I did all of my negotiations online via email, walked in, test drove the car, signed some papers and drove out with my new car 🙂 The whole thing took about 3 hours. Surprisingly, they did not pressure me into buying unlike others and didn’t try to get me purchase any extra stuff on the car such as accessories or extra warrantly on the car or etc. I would certainly recommend Aubrey to my friends.
Bought a 2006 HOnda Civic in March 09. Salesperson was nice, but when asked to take $800 off price of used car, manager of Pohanka Honda in Fredericksburg gave us major attitude and was mean and rude, acting like he was going out of his way. He ended up coming down only a few hundred dollars, but I knew it was decent deal, so I bought the car. Three days later, the battery went dead!!!! Pohanka refused to cover it with CERTIFIED USED HONDA warranty. Also, light on dash was out when I bought it, and asked Pohanka and they refused to replace it under the “bumper-to-bumper warranty, considering it “normal wear and tear” eventhough it was like that when I bought it. I will never buy again from them again!!!! COLONIAL HONDA of Chester, VA is much better with previous car purchase!!! Will go there again.
