The selection of pre-owned cars was superb, and the salesman “Donny Green” was very courteous and straight to the point (just the way i like sales to be). i was able to knock a 1,000 off the listed price, and i thought i was paying a reasonable price. i signed the paperwork that day and was able to drive the car back to my house that night.
LONG STORY SHORT, IT WASN’T TILL I GOT HOME AND LOOKED ON KELLY BLUE BOOK (KBB) AND REALIZED THEY SCREWED ME OUT OF 2,000 DOLLARS. I noticed that some of their used vehicle inquires are 2,000-3,000 dollars above what KBB tells you a DEALERSHIP should be asking for.
oh, and i also decided to run a CARFAX report a few days later, and to my astonishment, my car had once been used as a rental car and was purchased at an auction by the dealership. the old saying goes “drive it like you stole it” when it comes to rentals, and i’m kinda worried about how long my car keeps driving before i start having probs.
my only advice is have an idea of 2-3 vehicles you plan to buy before going to the dealership, and write down a list of their prices so you can use it as a negotiating tool. that, and be prepared to run a carfax report at the dealership. Milton Ruben has a computer open to the public for this reason, so take advantage of it.
When I bought my vehicle, the salesperson, John Nash, was very helpful and made the purchasing experience very easy. That was back in September ’08. Now it is December ’08 and I have yet to get a tag for my vehicle. My husband and I paid the personal property tax, but the car is in my husband’s name and both of our names were on the tax form. In the meantime we got a package about an address change form that my husband needed to fill out, but it did not say who it was from or why we needed it. Eventually we got a call from Tammy at Milton Ruben who said my husband needed to sign the paperwork and mail it to her. We turned in the property tax form and a month later Tammy calls us up and tell us that she has the tag for our vehicle, but we need to change the PPTax info to just have my husband’s name. We go and get that all changed just in time to get a call from Tammy telling us that she’s sending the money we paid for the tag back to us and we can go to DMV and do it ourselves. We go to the DMV and they have no record of the title. We call back to Milton Ruben and this time get Sarah who tells us that she has no idea why Tammy did that, but that we need to bring that to her so she can get the tag. She says that Tammy couldn’t have said that she had the tag already because they aren’t allowed to get them until the paperwork is filled out. We live in Aiken and have had to drive over to Augusta several times now to get this taken care of so we can get our tag. We drive out there on a Friday and give them the PPtax paper. We did not have the check with us because we drove straight there from the DMV but I asked her if I could mail it in. Sarah said that I could and that the tag would be ready Monday. It is now Monday and I have already received a call from Sarah that I have to have the check into them before they can get my tag even though this is exactly what I asked her Friday and that she said would not be a problem. I them spoke with their manager Allison who said she would taker care of it personally and that I could pick up the tag tomorrow, but has given me the very clear impression that she does not care how her employees treat people or what her employees tell people. Avoid Milton Ruben at all costs. I just hope this helps save one person the 3 months of emotional harassment that I have received from these horrible people.
