This is our second vehicle purchased with Nick and it was truly a pleasure… AGAIN! We checked to be sure he was still there as so many vehicle salespeople move from one dealership to another and we so enjoyed working with him on the purchase of our 2008 Tundra that we wanted to give him first shot at what our new vehicle might be. We went to him thinking that we would replace with another Tundra and ended up purchasing our 2014 4Runner Limited instead.
His attention to detail and his relaxed personality made us as comfortable as our past experience which indicates this is not an exception. Everything was handled quickly, efficiently and professionally and even though we had not intended to purchase at our first visit, the deal was everything we could have hoped and our research stopped with our first visit.
Nick and his Sales Manager Jason never made us feel uncomfortable as in some dealerships. They were both relaxed and willing to wait for our decision. There was never any pressure to ‘make the deal now or the vehicle might not be here’ as we’ve experienced in other places. It was a comfortable and cordial negotiation in which both parties participated and we were not subjected to any pressure tactics.
Gene , the Finance Manager, was personable and thorough. He explained our options through each step of our paperwork. Everything seemed effortless and was explained completely with no hidden surprises.
Nick spent more than an hour on his day off to personally deliver our vehicle. He explained the paperwork we were being provided and then spent a long time going over the various options and safety features we needed to safely take delivery.
Overall, the experience at Hurlbert was relaxed, cordial and extremely customer-friendly.
I haven’t car-shopped in 13 years so was apprehensive about the whole deal. I was interested in buying a certified used Prius (after doing my homework), so put in a website search and within two days, a car came up with my criteria at Hurlbert. So I went in to check it out, and ended up buying it that day! I really liked the salesman, Dave Jarry – he was very helpful, friendly, and not pushy (this counted for a LOT – I would have left if he was). When I went to pick up the car, they had done a beautiful job of detailing it, including fixing up some scratches and making the seats like new. Everyone was friendly and so helpful and I was impressed with the whole process. The business manager, Gene, was forthright and helpful and did a great job getting me financing. I would recommend this dealer with complete confidence!
Great experience with both Rick and Ara in the purchase of the new 2013 Venza! Friendly and helpful. Price agreed met our expectations. Highly recommend Hurlbert and especially Rick Howard and Ara Kostandin! Thanks All
Hopefully, my experience is unusual, but you may want to be prepared if you are considering visiting Hurlburt Toyota to buy a car.
First, you’re on your own to know about the car you’re considering. Do your research on the price also, because they use misleading pricing on the sticker. If you like old-fashioned haggling over the price, you will love this dealership and be prepared to pay some of the highest dealer fees in the area ($372).
Don’t expect to get any follow up calls. If you need any information, you will need to chase after both your salesperson and the finance manager.
After you hand over your savings, be prepared to witness some of the worst and most unprofessional service I have ever known. When you go to pick up your car, don’t expect your salesperson to remember you or know why you are there. AND, be sure you are ready to fill your tank on the way home.
You may also expect paperwork that is incorrect and incomplete, and if you do call to speak to someone, don’t expect a return call.Lastly, be prepared when you go to register your new car. The dealer won’t tell you that you need paperwork that you won’t get until after your temp plate expires.
Your story may be different, but be prepared.
Once you sign the purchase agreement, the whole scene changes. The wait for paperwork to come out was over 3 hours. we were totally ignored the entire time. Then, The vehicle did not make it to my house without warning lights flashing. Owners manual specifically said it was dangerous to drive the car when the light was flashing. I had to park it and get a ride home. I specifically stated I did not want a lease or rental vehicle, and was assured I would not get one…BUT, I DID. The car was towed back to the dealership, and now they want to charge storage. They came up with several different stories about why the carfax report should not be considered accurate, none of which were accurate. One person even told me he knew the car well, and the original owner leased it and then bought it out from the lease…well, autofax said it was a rental for 3 months, then not driven for 7 months during which time it was at 3 auctions and then finally was sold as an announced rental and subsequently purchased by a dealership. Hurlberts said I am stuck with the car. No offer of trading it for another, nothing. BE VERY CAREFUL BUYING HERE!
I recently purchased a 2004 Toyota Corolla for my daughter. We agreed on a fair price and I had my local mechanic check the car before I purchased it. He had a few concerns, the main one being that the serpentine belt was marginal and should be replaced. Hulbert’s would not replace it. After talking with my mechanic, I decided to have him replace it for half of what Hulberts wanted to charge me for doing the job. After I purchased the car, the first time I took it out with my daughter to get it registered, the engine light came on. I took it to AutoZone and they said it was the oxygen sensor. I called Hulberts and they said to bring it in to be checked. That night, I drove the car to the grocery store and realized that the driver’s door didn’t lock from the outside (it was broken) and the lighted letters in the gear shifter did not light up. I had to open the door to turn on the light to see what gear I was shifting into. Needless to say, this is a safety issue that concerns me with my daughter driving at night. When I took the car to Hulberts, they looked at the problems and told me the following: “We’ll put in a new oxygen sensor and charge you 159.00 for the part, but we’ll install it with no labor charge. We will not repair the lock and burned out light in the gear shifter. You can lock the driver side door from the inside instead of the outside and we can replace the bulb in the gear shifter, but you will be charged the 98.00 an hour labor charge for us to do it and we don’t know if it will take half an hour or a full hour to disassemble the gear shifter to replace the bulb.” I guess the bottom line is that I expect a car dealership to be upfront and honest – if something doesn’t work, tell the person buying the car before they buy it so that they can ask that the items be fixed or lower their offer in recognition of what future repair bills will be, especially if safety is concerned. They knew I was buying this car for my daughter. When Jessie asked the service manager if the gear shifter light needed to work in order for the car to get an inspection sticker, which they had just granted for the car, he said no. That’s their bottom line. I would not buy a car from Hulberts again as I feel they are deceptive. I know they knew about the lock, as they lock the cars on the lot, and they had the car since April, so they must have driven it at night at some point to know the gear shifter light didn’t work. Unfortunately, I did not drive it at night before I purchased the car, and I didn’t think to go around and manually check every outside lock to be sure that they all worked. If you do buy a used car from Hulberts, check the car carefully. They won’t be helpful once you sign on the line.
I do apologize that this happened. Although I was not able to assist with your situation I do appreciate the feedback and will take steps to prevent this type of thing from happening in the future. From the moment I walked in through the doors, the customer service was friendly and was not pushy for one minute. As I waited to be assisted I felt comfortable and enjoyed the fact that there was a well organized sitting area. I have been to other car dealer places and I felt pressured to purchase a vehicle and not for one minute did I feel that way when I went to Hulbert. I explained what I needed in a vehicle and the budget I’m on. I was not sure in the vehicle I wanted to purchase but Christina listened to my needs and set me up with the perfect vehicle for me and my family and she made sure I did not go over budget and it was something I can afford on a monthly basis.
The experience was great and I was satisfied with the purchase and service I received. Christina went the extra mile and transferred my items from my trade in vehicle to my new purchase since she knew it was going to be hard for me to let go and knew I would get emotional.
Thank you Hulbert for all you have done to make sure this all went smooth for me.
A+ :)…

I recently inquired about a vehicle online at Hurlbert Toyota… They quickly replied to my specific questions and respected my wishes of not being called.. The email included numerous links to webpages that had info about the vehicle, like e-brochures, videos, carfax reports and a lot more… When I visited the dealership I was impressed with the building and the professionalism of the sales department. The terms & price that I was emailed did not change once I walked in the door. It’s great to know there is a place that is more concerned about what the CUSTOMER wants and meeting those needs. Thanks Hurlbert Toyota for the ease of purchasing and knowing I can refer fiends and family to a place that will not let them down!
