dishonest and sleazy operation. not to be trusted. one answer via phone and then show up and different story. even called the night before to confirm my visit for a specific vehicle then bait and switch the next day.
I don’t see a spot on here to give a negative star #. They absolutely don’t deserve a positive one.
A lot of promises were made but not honored. They are a VERY shady business! They were real nice when I was looking to buy but as soon as I bought and a month later had a broken down van they didn’t want to honor any of their agreements.
Let me have a moment to take you back…
August 2010, I am pregnant with baby girl number 4. My husband is a proud sailor in the US Navy. The air compressor in my 2002 dodge stratus has given out. There is no room in my car for another car seat. It’s hot and cramped. We decide to look for a vehicle that will better suit our family’s needs. Our current vehicles are both paid off.
We drive past the Hall Chrysler jeep dealership on Virginia Beach Boulevard and notice a beautiful black minivan. We end up inside chatting with a salesman who is very sincere and charismatic. I have cut his hair a few days before this… on top of being a busy navy wife and mother I am also a full time hair stylist. The salesman talks us into buying the van. We purchase it (with an $800 environmental package and a $2,500 extended power train warranty) and drive it home that day. We are very excited! Our children have room and aren’t overheating! Yay!
Less than two MONTHS later, to my horror, the engine starts acting very odd. I drive it to the dealership and drop it off. They call me and inform me that the engine has DIED and will not run again. Our new van, having made only one payment on it thus far, has DIED and requires a new engine. For days the hall dealership calls telling me that they are unsure as to whether or not the $2500 extended power train warranty we purchased will cover the new engine. I AM FURIOUS. Finally, they tell me the warranty will cover the new engine.
When I pick it up I notice an odd clicking noise. The representatives told me to give the vehicle some time to work out the kinks. A few months pass and the noise does not quiet. My fourth daughter is born. I call and make an appointment. Sure enough I have a leaky exhaust gasket. So they fix it. Immediately after getting the vehicle back, the noise is still there. I call again. I am told that some vehicles just make noise. So I go about life. I still constantly heard the noise.
In the mean time I bring the car in to have the environmental package installed. They apply the protective coverings to the inside and outside of the vehicle… I am told to bring it back every six months to have it reapplied to ensure the continued coverage. 6 months later, when I bring it in to have it reapplied, I am charged $50 for them to WASH MY CAR. Nothing is applied. The interior is not cleaned… as was promised when the environmental package was purchased. I was then told that no one was trained on what the environmental package ACTUALLY included when it was sold to me and I would have to call a third party and have them come to my home to make good on the warranty… and I would be responsible for reapplying the treatments myself every six months… and I would have to go to the dealership every six months and BUY the application kit ($50)… on top of the $800 I initially paid!!!! WHAT EXACTLY DID I PAY FOR?!?!?
A year passes since I brought the car in for the exhaust noise. My car is having other problems… the air conditioner isn’t working at all… the dash board had completely stopped working… I call in again and mention my list of concerns… and the noise that still continues. I am then told I need to make another service appointment because it sounds like my computer had died and would cost at least $1500 to replace… I call a friend who directs me to the fuse panel… a dead fuse was the cause of my dash issues… but having already contacted the dealership they were thumbing through my file and called to tell me I was not given a new factory engine, but a jasper rebuild. And the hall company doesn’t do any of their warranty repairs. So I would have to take it to a Jasper technician.
My car’s condition continues to deteriorate… making noise similar to a loud duck call… So I call Art Walker’s Auto, the Jasper tech Hall referred me to. $187 later I am informed that my exhaust was installed improperly… and isn’t covered by the Jasper warranty anyway. They tell me to take it back to Hall. I call Hall and tell them what’s up and they say because it had been more than a year and all of my previous warranties through them have expired, they wouldn’t cover anything… I continue to call and speak with them and they tell me to bring it in and they’ll look at it and see what they can do. And that’s where my car is now… in need of exhaust repair (before it can even pass state inspection), a new alternator and a new air compressor…. the estimate I got from the jasper tech was $2,115 for all of the repairs 🙁
I still owe $8579 on the car… the original price was $9,996…with financing and the warranty and other fees it totaled over $14,000.
My husband is deploying on July 20th, for AT LEAST 7 months. He is driving HIS car to Mississippi. I am using his car currently to go back and forth to and from work, the grocery store, doctor’s appointments and everywhere else. When he leaves, so does his car. We cannot afford to finance another vehicle… using our broken van as a trade would put us in a really bad place with negative equity… and that’s a cycle we don’t want to start.
I am a hard working mother of 4, a supportive and proud Navy wife, and a dedicated hair stylist. I deserve better service than this. This company has not done right by my children, my husband or me. They really took advantage of us… and now we’re suffering for it. Our family vehicle, my mode of transportation to support our family, is broken. It is a hazard. This company sold me fairy dust… that has now blown away in the wind… and I’m still left paying for it. Without a car, I will not be able to work. I will have to use taxis to take my children to the doctor. I will have to walk to and from the grocery store with my children… in the hot and cold… rain and snow.
Hall has severely dropped the ball for their clientele and Navy families everywhere. They need to be held to higher standards. $14,000 may not be a lot of money to anyone running that place… but to me, it is literally and substantially more than I make in 6 months. They should be ashamed of themselves. Other women, mothers, families… everyone should be warned about their lackluster performance.
What can I do??? Where can I go for help?? How can I warn others??
