My attempt at buying a good car from Hi-Tech cost me thousands of dollars. I bought a 2001 PT Cruiser from them that overheated before I even arrived home. I also learned they filled the cooling system with only water, not coolant (they told me that is very common in Texas, but two places I brought the car to told me that is NOT common practice here and is actually very reckless). I brought it back to them to fix, which they were kind to do under my as-is purchase, but after they fixed it, it overheated again immediately. They worked on it for a total of five days, requiring me to pay for parts and machining for a new head gasket. When I picked it up to drive it home, the check engine light came on before I got home, and the engine sputtered/misfired the whole way home. This was the fourth doomsday event in a week, so I drove straight to my own mechanic, who gave me a LONG list of very serious problems with the car that, cumulatively, would cost much more than the car’s value to fix. I returned to Hi-Tech, and they insisted the car was fine, that the problems were cosmetic only, and that my other mechanic was lying to me (we even called the mechanic on speaker phone, after which Hi-Tech told me all the problems the mechanic claimed the car had were false). Combustion gases in the cooling system, cracked head or block, failed catalytic converter, etc. I ended up getting Hi-Tech to void the sale and they returned only a small fraction of what I paid, and guess what? They put it right back on their lot, listed at the same price as before, and they are selling it to another ‘caveat emptor’ buyer. Others might have picked up good cars from their lot, but all they got from me was a huge amount of money (more than double profits since they are reselling the car).
