We want to share a very disturbing experience that my wife and I recently had with BILL PEARCE VOLVO IN RENO.
On Sunday, Aug. 26th, 2012, we noticed that our Volvo SUV’s “Check Engine” light came on while we were in Lake Tahoe. We put 4 quarts of oil in the car, drove to Reno, and had the car checked out by the Bill Pearce Volvo Service Department.
After checking it out, we were advised that the engine was damaged and replacement of the engine was recommended at a cost of $13,000 to $15,000.
I mentioned to the service department that we had experienced a similar problem with the same car a few years earlier and that the same company had remedied the problem for us without replacement. This information did not seem to affect their determination that the engine was damaged and needed replacement.
The service rep suggested that the sales department give us a quote on purchase of the car, and the quote was $2,500 on a blue book value of $15,000.
To inquire further, I requested to speak with the mechanic on the car. This was accommodated, but the answers to my questions led me to believe that things were not adding up. Frankly, I was suspicious that the agenda was not to repair the car, but to sell us a new engine or a new car.
As a result, we cancelled the remainder of our vacation and Uhauled the car 500 miles back to San Diego. We then took the car to our local Volvo dealership, which changed the oil and spark plugs and returned the car to us the same day. The car has been driving splendidly to this day. We were advised that when the oil level is low, the Check Engine light automatically comes on.
While we have around $1,500 in expenses associated with rental cars, Uhaul, gas, etc.., this is not our primary concern. This is not just about money lost, the aborted vacation, or my traumatized wife, but it is about our responsibility to other consumers who might have had or will have similar experiences with BILL PEARCE VOLVO IN RENO. Everyone who hears the story is shocked and outraged.
Sincerely,
Rob Hill
