I don’t usually write reviews, but this time I’m making an exception. I just closed a deal for a used Volkswagen GTI with John DeLoach of Village Cadillac in Homosassa, FL. The reason for the exception is that the experience was unbelievable, and I mean that in a good way. The process of buying cars, especially used cars, tends to be unpleasant at best, and at times can get to be downright brutal. I can remember the first used vehicle that I purchased; I had no idea what I was doing. Two veteran salesmen saw me coming from a mile away, grabbed their cudgels, and got to work. I paid for the beating that I received that day for years. I’ve come a long way since those days, which makes me appreciate the qualities that John DeLoach of Village Cadillac in Homosassa, FL brings to the table all the more. Outgoing and ever-genial, John was born to sell cars. He loves his job! He is himself a car enthusiast, so he knows his facts. He knows why the manufacturer has made certain decisions and what the implications of those decisions are for the buyer. Raised in a military family, John is respectful, patient, and astonishingly honest, almost to a fault. John has a pleasant demeanor, is quick to laugh, is never mean or biting, and never misses a beat if your behavior should slip a bit during negotiation. John realizes that your time is valuable and he doesn’t waist it. All of these qualities together made the negotiation for the GTI a pleasant experience, instead of the usual dread and loathing. When the deal was closed, I walked away pleased, not only with the final terms, but because of what John brings to the table, I actually enjoyed the process! Highly recommended!
I gave financing one star because I didn’t use their financing but the web form requires at least one star be given for every rating.
I tried to avoid a painful and frustrating car-buying ordeal when buying a new Prius. I contacted Village Cadillac Toyota because their online pricing and reviews looked very good. I called and emailed before driving the hour and a half to the store. The Internet Salesperson did a great job assuring me they were straight forward, honest dealership looking to sell off 2015 inventory before the end of the year. She said they were paying premium prices on trade-ins and the pre-owned car manager was eager to see my car. I mentioned seeing several high end model IV’s & V’s listed at or below $19,000. At first she said they would honor their pricing, but then told me the manager said that pricing was “in error” and if I checked the stock and VIN numbers I would see those were actually level 2 cars advertised as IV’s & V’s. She said they were working to correct the erroneous listings and convinced me to come in and get a great deal… that they would take good care of me.
The floor salesperson was very polite, courteous, and apologized for the ‘misleading pricing’. We picked out a car and waited for the moment of truth. Bad news… there was no premium pricing for a trade… auction pricing only and the car would cost significantly more than the advertised price.
The truth was none of their Prius pricing on Cars.com was correct and much of their own website price was misleading. Brett Coble, the General Sales Manager, acted surprised and put out that I expected their pricing to be correct. His position was, yes we know the pricing is misleading… buy a car at a higher price. He said I would not be able to buy a comparable car at their price elsewhere.
In the final analysis if felt like the classic bait and switch… say anything to get customers in the store… The dealer Internet listings on Cars.com: mostly incorrect: dealer website pricing: misleading; dealer assurance to “honor pricing”: not true; dealer “paying premium price for trade-ins”: no true; dealer will correct misleading information on online: not true as of this posting; “No other dealership will give me as good a deal”: also not true
I thank Shaun & Otto for being friendly and courteous. I highly recommend the BUYER BEWARE dealing with the management.
Thanks Mark, Tarae, & Eddie at DeLuca Toyota for giving me a great experience and price!
