After being in contact with Precision Acura for several weeks via email (our first email was exchanged on 1/17/11), we finally came to an agreement on a 2008 Acura RDX Technology Package AWD SUV in Nighthawk Black Pearl with 28,107 miles. On January 25, 2010, Ray Fagin, the “Lease Retention and Client Services Manager”, emailed me saying that he spoke with his manager and my offer was acceptable.
Due to inclement weather and prior obligations, I could not make the trip to Precision Acura until February 1, 2011. I stayed in continuous email contact with Ray over that week coordinating when I would be available to come to Precision to finalize the purchase. To ensure the car was still on the lot and able to be sold to me for the prior agreed price on the day we had agreed to meet, I again emailed Mr. Fagin asking him to confirm this information. In my email to Mr. Fagin of Precision Acura on February 1st at 2:33 PM, I stated “Please verify that the vehicle that I asked you about is still on the lot and will be sold to me for $23,000 OTD. I have attached the vehicle specifications and link below just so we are clear on the vehicle I want.” I attached the following link (link no longer works but worked at time of email) and text to the email , Stock#: PA018308, Engine 2.3L 4 cyls, Transmission: Automatic 5-Speed, Body Style: SUV, Color: Nh Black, Interior: Black, Miles: 28,107, VIN: 5J8TB18508A018. Mr. Fagin responded to me at 3:00 PM, saying “The car is available and the deal is as I stated in my email to you. The price is $23000…. What time will you be here?” I emailed Mr. Fagin at 3:14 PM telling him I had an hour and a half commute from where I would pick up a family member to join me and would arrive around 7 PM.
I received another email from Debro Kent at 3:40 PM “My name is Debro, and I work closely with Ray Fagen. A personal check would be acceptable up to $2500. (anything more would need to be a "certified / bank check). By the way, if you intend on financing, we would have to collect the Sales tax and do the Motor Vehicle work for you. If paying cash, you would be able to pay your own tax and do your own Motor Vehicle. See you this evening…”
When I arrived to Precision Acura around 6:45 PM, I was told that Ray Fagin had left for the day. I was also told by Mike Sullivan, the Pre-Owned Sales manager, that the vehicle I had been in contact with Mr. Fagin about and specified in my email did not exist. The other salesmen were unaware that I had made an appointment to purchase that vehicle. The sales team made several excuses for why they didn’t have the vehicle in stock. Mr. Sullivan even said that I was mistaken about the specifications of the car even though I showed him the email from 3 hours earlier to the contrary. Precision Acura (Ray Fagin) mislead me and then continued to lie to me in an effort to get me into the dealership knowing that that car he said was available did not exist. The salesmen at the dealership had a total disregard for my time and the time of two people who accompanied me. They knew we had to travel 4 hours (2 hours each direction) out of our way and still continued to lie right up to 2 hours before we left to purchase a vehicle that they knew they did not have on the lot.
After not receiving any communication from the dealer a week after the incident, I contacted Mr. Fagin. He responded, “I had the wrong stock # car. So when I checked if the car was here that was the one I was looking at. I would never have had you come up if I knew the car you were interested in was not here. I did not get back to you sooner because I thought you would not speak to me.” I emailed Mr. Fagin asking for more information and expressing my disbelief that he could mess up the vehicle when I attached the stock # along with all the cars specifications and a link to their inventory page in several emails. Mr. Fagin also emailed me saying that he had set up an appointment for me with Debro Kent who was apparently finishing up his dinner when I arrived. No one mentioned that he was there or even knew I was coming. Overall, their explanation was implausible and unacceptable. I have not received any other contact from Precision (except trying to sell me another car) even though I emailed the VP/GM and GSM.
I am beyond disappointed with my experience with the Precision Acura dealership, especially since my research showed the ratings to be high. The disreputable way of conducting business that has been evidenced by Precision Acura and specifically, the Lease Retention and Client Services Manager is appalling. Dishonesty is not the best policy. Pulling a bait and switch on customers will not help increase business with consumers in your marketing area. It is my aim to prevent future customers from being abused as I was. Three professionals left work early for a two hour hour drive to close a deal on a fictitious car that was promised to them in writing. The lies Precision told me cost me weeks of additional time searching for an impossibly low price on a particular vehicle that was never real. I could have purchased numerous other Acuras closer to home before Feb. 1st had I not been tricked by their false advertising and email confirmations. Now after three more weeks of searching, I have now purchased a RDX with similar specs from a reputable dealer.
I have visted the Precision Acura dealership several times and interacted to my delight with Tom, the internet sales manager. However, this is the only good experience that I’ve had with this dealership.
On my first test driving experience, my wife and I met with Otto, a new salesman to the dealership. Once we finished the average test drive, we proceeded to discuss the price. After sharing with him him what we were looking for in the price, he in no uncertain terms let us know that we were at the “wrong dealership.” My original offer reflected a near average of what NADA, Edmunds.com and Kelly Blue Book suggested as retail price. I was not asking for anything outrageous.
Having thick skin, I decided to visit the dealership again a week or so later. After finding a nice MDX and communicating with Tom again, I agreed to take this for a test drive. We met with Eric, who seemed put off that he had to help someone. Thinking little of his pompous attitude, we drove the car and agreed to discuss the price further. Sitting at his desk I mentioned the price that Tom had emailed me earlier and gave the email chain to Eric. I offered a price that was lower, as any well-informed buyer would. He promptly told me no. I suggested that we meet in the middle. Again my offer was in line with recommended internet pricing. We discussed this furhter and Eric said that he would check with his sales manager, Mike Sullivan. Mike shook our hands, and we again submitted our offer. He told us that the car was priced low to bring people in and that there was no room for any additional flexibility. I told him that I understand there’s a bottom line but explained that I would be paying mostly in cash, that my financing was ready to go, and that we’d be ready to sign a deal immediately. He bruskly responded that this car was priced for the “bottom feeders,” making it clear that we were stupid for wanting to negotiate a slightly lower price. We left completely offended.
Mind you that I could pay cash for nearly any car on the lot if I wanted. I’m a well informed consumer, and because I understand finance and maintain a budget, I have set a limit to what I will spend on a car. I found their demeanor and tone insulting, and my wife is still upset about how she was treated. I’m still going to purchase a car, but you can be confident that I will not be spending any of my money at this dealership.
:mad:Dishonest and rude. The day I go into Precision Acura of Princeton to buy a new TL the salesman and sales manager decide the price we had previous agreed upon wouldn’t be accepted. I was told by the sales manager that I should come back when I have more money to spend. Totally unbelievable. :)Later that same day I purchased a New TL w/tech from Davis Acura in longhorn, Pa. They acted very professional and I highly recommend them.
I went looking for a used car for my twin daughters. I called the dealer and talked to Rajiv Ramnarine he confirmed that the car was in fact in stock so I made an appointment to look at it. when I arrived he had the car ready for me to take a test drive, he had the car fax ready for me to review, he answered all my questions. I ended up putting a deposit on the car and said I would pick it up in a few days. The GSM Charles Creighton came over and talked to me about the car and thanked me for the business, I was never pressured to go home with the car right away, they understood why I wanted to pick it up in a few days as I wanted my daughters on the loan so I can build their credit. I have bought many cars in my life and this was by far the best dealership I have come across. They got me a great rate from the bank and when it was time to pick it up today they had everything ready for us. We showed up at 9am and the car was all cleaned and the paper work was all done as promised. We did all the paper work with Eric Sebar and he was very professional as were all the employees in the dealership. I feel I got a great price on the car but more important I had a great experience at the dealership and never felt pressured. The car was spotless and it had a full tank of gas! I hope the owner of this dealership appreciates the professional employees that work there. Thank you for going above all the rest!!!
