The dealership called ME wanting to buy back our leased 2011 Sienna. I reluctantly agreed to come in as she insured me that I would get a much lower payment. As soon as I walked in the door they wanted to check my credit. They then procede to tell me that I can only choose from the venza or highlander on the showroom floor. Neither of these were what I needed for my family. She pushed me to drive the highlander. I told them that it was nice but not what I wanted. She then began to barter price with me and I said that I would not pay anything close to that I was paying for the Sienna. After two hours of haggling they said they could make it work. As I’m sitting there I see them transfer my tag from the van to the highlander and get my regstration out of the van. I HAD NOT agreed to anything. I approached them and said that I was not doing a deal with them and they acted as if they were mad at me and hurt their feelings. They said that it had already been processed! I wanted to run but they had my tag and registration! I needed to get home b/c my kids were sick and they forced me to drive the highlander home to show my husband. The next morning my husband called them to say to have the van ready b/c I was coming to pick it up. She basically told him that him that he was a bad husband for not buying the SUV for me. I cannot believe that this even happended. DO NOT do business with them.
My family visited this dealership to shop for a potential new car. The salesman that we worked with was extremely pushy, constantly texting my husband bartering with him via text messages, and even going so far as to asking my husband if he was mad at him b/c he had not responded. It was overboard.
The day that we visited this dealership, my son left his "lovey" there (a small stuffed animal puppy that he is addicted to). We immediately called the dealership as soon as we realized this, and they informed us that they could not locate it.
Throughout the following week, my husband continued to get harassed with text messages by this salesman. Then yesterday, out of the blue, he received a text message with a picture of my son’s puppy and the message read “Do you still want a Highlander?”
My husband and I were beyond speechless. This was quite possibly the most unethical, unprofessional and quite frankly, disgusting act that we have ever experienced. The fact that a salesman would hold our child’s "lovey" for "ransom" in order for us to come in and buy a car from them was rock bottom.
Toyota of Gastonia has now truly defined for me what a true "sleazy car salesman" means. I will never return to this dealership, and based off of the sales staff ethics and high level of unprofessionalism, I would NOT recommend that you shop there.
In the end, even before this text incident, we went with another dealership (that was farther away) simply based off the fact that they were much nicer and professional. I am beyond disgusted by Toyota of Gastonia.
I am so sorry to see this! I actually had a similar experience on Friday there. They called me wanting to buy my leased Sienna back from me. We had been contemplating trading it in b/c I am now staying home full time and wanted to get something a little cheaper. They immediately wanted to check my credit and then proceded to tell me that I could only choose from the highlander or venza on the showroom floor. On the phone they ensured me that I would be able to get a much cheaper payment. I agreed to test drive the highlander and it was ok but not exactly what I wanted. They then told me that the payment would only be $20 less than what I was paying now. I was disgusted and said no. They haggled with me AND transferred my tag and registration to the highlander without agreeing on anything! I was furious and felt trapped there. I wanted to run and leave but they had taken my tag off my van. I approached them and said that I didn’t want to do a deal with them and they acted appalled and mad at me. I needed to leave b/c my kids were at home sick and they forced me to drive the highlander home that night. The next morning my husband called to tell them to get the van ready i was coming to pick it up and they said that he was a bad husband for not buying the SUV for me. Needless to say we will never ever go back there!
