Car purchased used in Nov. 2008. with 40K miles. Waterpump went out at 42K. Pump was replaced, but service manager Rick Tillotson admitted that no other part of the cooling system was checked.
In the 2009 PA state inspection, the car was failed because of bad wiper blades. The service techs would not pass the car unless new wipers were purchased from the dealership. They charged $39.95. Thats not a typo, $39.95.
At 52K miles, the upper radiator hose burst, requiring the car to be fixed, on the spot in a gas station parking lot. The cost of the hose and coolant lost was $35 from Advance Auto.
Thermostat was installed incorrectly during service, causing a small leak that would waste gallon/month of coolant.
At 55K miles, the starter went out, making the car immobile. It was towed to the dealership under warranty. It has sat there for a week as of 8/7/2010 and they say it will be another two weeks.
I have gone in trying to get the many previous issues addressed, or to be compensated in some manner for the hassle, cost and poor reliabilty of this car, but they are unsympathetic. The service mangers response was to ‘Get a lawyer.’
Do not buy a new or used car from McCafferty. Do not get your car serviced there. Do not give them any business what-so-ever. The cars are money pits and the shop does poor quality work.
