Terrible dealer. They said the car was clean and in spectacular condition. The car was delivered to my house and smells like an ashtray. I’ve had it detailed 3 times and changed all filters and it still stinks like smoke. Also, the A/C doesn’t work and requires a very expensive repair unless I cap it and do a half ass repair. Wheel alignment is also off and requires a repair.
These people are a bunch of liars.
I have now purchased two Range Rovers from Marquis Motors! Arthur, the owner is who I deal with. He is the ABSOLUTE BEST! So easy to deal with, no BS, just a knowledgeable small dealer who is extremely helpful all around. At Marquis Motors they also service the vehicles that you buy or own. It is a family business and they treat you like family. No pressure… just smart, warm individuals. I live doing business at Marquis Motors and you will too. I promise.
I am still devastated from all the lies and stories that were sold to me by Arthur ,,, 5 years later still can’t believe how dishonest he was

I just purchased a 2006 Landrover LR3 SE from Marquis Motor Cars.They were great to deal with.My neighbor recommended me and he purchased two vehicles from Marquis.They answered all my questions and gave me a great deal.Marquis is owned by two brothers and they helped me with getting financing as well.Very pleased with the whole experience.
My wife and I recently purchased a Land Rover Discovery from Marquis. They presented themselves as one of the premier Rover specialists in the country. We paid the full asking price for the car as it appeared to be in very good condition and we trusted Arthur and Luigi. Within 1 week of taking the car home, we found the shaft on keys would literally break off in the ignition, the rear suspension had a leak, and the instrument panel was loose. We then took the car to Rover Special Vechicles in RI and found that there were many other concerns with the car. Arthur and Luigi had said they put the car through a rigorous 200 point inspection, but it was clear that this was either not done, or was done poorly. We are now looking at spending thousands of $’s to get the car in proper working condition and when we approached Marquis with these issues, they refused to take any responsibility. If you are considering purchasing from Marquis, I highly recommend you have a certified Rover specialist take a good look at the car first.

I purchased a 2004 Landrover SE from this dealership this past summer (2011). Arthur was great in every step of the way. We built a great connection and his brother Louie is awesome as well. Everything Arthur promised he delivered. I even got a bottle of wine (through our negotiating) with the delivery of my vehicle! Anytime I want to get a car, I will consider this dealership.
I bought a 2007 Audi A-6 and the vehicle was in perfect condition.I was treated with respect and no pressure at all.I saved 3,000 from the local Audi dealer.I would recomend this dealership to anyone.:)
Dealer sold me a used Audi A6 with a faulty catalytic converter, which failed emissions test on day 1. Refused to take car back or make good on it, despite Massachusetts consumer laws that say he has to. Additional fraudulent representation of true tire condition. Will have to chase them for my money. Luckily the fraud is well documented. See full e-mail exchange below, which is pretty self explanatory.
Dear Arthur, dear Luigi,
please don’t underestimate the significance of these discussions, and of the apparently unavoidable dispute.
Luigi, your response is at best disingenuous and neither addressing the real issues here, nor will it prevent a further escalation.
Regarding the points you have raised:
- the title for this vehicle was signed over on April 26. I did not sign any contract at any earlier date with you.
- you failed to deliver this vehicle on the agreed upon date of April 28. In fact you didn’t deliver it until April 30, a Saturday.
- In light of this, your attempt to pre-date the beginning of the alleged inspection time to April 21 is highly disingenuous.
- Moreover, M.G.L. c. 90 s. 7N1/4 makes it sufficiently clear that warranty and inspection periods start with the date of delivery.
- I submitted the vehicle for an emissions test, which it failed, on July 2, the Monday after I took delivery of the vehicle.
- Without a valid emissions test the car can not be legally operated, or even registered, and is therefore not usable until the corresponding repairs are made.
I have already spoken with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer and Business Regulations, who suggested I contact the Department of the Attorney General. More about that later.
I believe it would have been in your own best interest to simply reverse this transaction and to apply the Lemon Aid Law as suggested.
However, as you are very well aware, there are also the other Consumer Rights for Used Car Buyers and the Limited Used Vehicle Warranty.
- You have warranted this car, as mandated by Massachusetts law, for 30 days against any defect that impairs the use from the date of delivery (see attached).
- This document signed by you also states that you have to provide “the full cost of parts and labor necessary to repair all covered defects”.
- With previous mail you have received (and acknowledged) an attachment from the Wilton Auto & Tire Center estimating repair costs for the failing catalytic converter of $2,035.
- I will seek to collect these repair costs from you, as I have now no other choice but to have it repaired. If any other critical (impairing safety or use) parts (i.e. the other catalytic converter) of this car should fail within the prescribed 30 day period from the date of delivery, extended by the shop days, of course, I will also attempt to collect those.
Lastly, please take a look at these little gems:
According to the Collins English Dictionary 10th Edition fraud can be defined as: “deceit, trickery, sharp practice, or breach of confidence, perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage”. In the broadest sense, a fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual; the related adjective is fraudulent. The specific legal definition varies by legal jurisdiction. Fraud is a crime, and also a civil law violation.
Elements of fraud
Common law fraud has nine elements:
a representation of an existing fact;
its materiality;
its falsity;
the speaker’s knowledge of its falsity;
the speaker’s intent that it shall be acted upon by the plaintiff;
plaintiff’s ignorance of its falsity;
plaintiff’s reliance on the truth of the representation;
plaintiff’s right to rely upon it; and
consequent damages suffered by plaintiff.
And at this e-mail from you, Arthur:
-Hi JoR
Tires are like new,timing belt and water pump as I think I told you were replaced.Brakes are also in excellent condition.Motor mount is not a problem in this A-6 and I think was a Allroad problem.I don’t know about the radio I know they make a hard wire attachment that looks factory for $89.00 at most radio places.I would need payment in full before delivery state reg.and insurance reg.Let me know how you want to proceed.Thanks
Arthur
Also delivered with previous e-mail you have a copy of the last tire invoice dated March 10, 2009, at 98,019 miles. That’s over 20,000 miles ago, more than half their expected life. There is salesmanship, and then there are factually wrong statements (see above), in this case perpetrated for profit. The difference in value between the alleged and the actual tires comes to over $300, or 4.5% of the vehicle purchase price, which is not insignificant.
I will also attempt to collect these $300 from you, as these are actual damages to me.
And then there is this communication:
…
The vehicle was just serviced and everything is in perfect working condition.We have sold over 80 cars on ebay and we have a 100% positive feedback and our customers are happy.As always we welcome and encourage inspection of this great car prior to purchase.We are offering FREE SHIPPING if you live in Mass.NewHampshire,Vermont,Maine,RhodeIsland and Ct.This A-6 is in great conditiona and priced to sell so don’t miss it.If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact me at 781-910-6098 thanks and Good Luck!!!!!
Arthur Masciarelli Pres.
So you serviced this vehicle and on the first day of my use the catalytic converter is faulty? What is wrong with this picture? Did you only lie about a service you did not perform, or did you already know the converter was failing? Given the exchanges above, incl. the misrepresented state of the tires, plus your first disingenuous response, what do you think a jury or arbitrator will believe?
If you fail to provide for this repair, it will increase my damages.
We all should also be aware of that fraudulent behavior, as and when confirmed, can result in additional penalties, often assessed in multiples of actual damages. Neither do local warranty laws etc. provide protection from fraud charges. This is starting to add up to an amount worth fighting for.
Arthur, if this is all just one big misunderstanding, this is your last chance to give me a call – today – and to propose a reasonable course of action.
But under no circumstance will this stand as it is.

Dear Mr. Roesler,
I have reviewed the information attached in your email and would like to make the following comments. The vehicle you purchased, was purchased on 04/21/2011. This date is the official sale date of your vehicle. From that date, you are required to have your vehicle inspected by a “Massachusetts licensed inspection station” in order to ascertain whether it will pass or fail.
In order for you to invoke the “Massachusetts Lemon Aid Law” and request a refund of your purchase price you must satisfy certain state requirements. Please see regulations below;
As you can see, you have not complied with the Massachusetts Lemon Aid regulations and therefore are not entitled to a refund of your purchase.
Furthermore, any warranties for failed components that may apply to your vehicle would have to “impair the safety or use” of the vehicle as stated in M.G.L Chapter 90 Section 7 N ¼. In reading the inspection report you have supplied no such conditions exists.
In Conclusion, Marquis Motorcars Inc. will not be willing to refund any of your purchase price and reserve all rights under the Massachusetts used vehicle warranty M.G.L Chapter 90 Section 7 N ¼
Sincerely,
Marquis Motorcars Inc
Management
How To Receive Your Refund
In order to obtain a refund, the vehicle must be inspected and rejected by a licensed Massachusetts Inspection Station within 7 days of purchasing it. The rejection cannot be caused by your negligence, abuse or an accident occurring after the date of sale. In addition, you must complete all of the following steps within 14 days from the date of sale:
1. Get a written statement, signed by an authorized agent of the inspection station, stating the reasons why the vehicle failed to pass the safety or combined safety and emissions inspection test.
2. Obtain a written estimate of the costs of the necessary emissions or safety repairs showing that those costs exceed 10% of the purchase price.
3. Notify the seller of your intention to void the contract under this statute (M.G.L. c. 90, §7N). Do this by certified mail, return receipt requested, and by regular mail. Enclose a copy of the documents listed in Steps 1 and 2. Be sure to save copies for your files.
4. Deliver the car to the seller, even if delivery requires towing services. It is advisable to take a witness with you and copies of the documents listed in Steps 1, 2, and 3. If the seller refuses to accept the car, prepare a statement indicating that you and a witness delivered the car to the seller on that date, but that the seller refused to accept the car. Be sure the statement is signed by both you and your witness in the presence of a notary public

Arthur and Luigi,
please find attached the report from my mechanic. The estimated repair costs to make the car pass the required emissions test are over $2,000, well above the 10% threshold. I will return the car to you this Friday, May 6, around noon, for a full refund.
Thank you,
JoR

Arthur and Luigi,
more details will come later tonight after I have it in writing, but my car mechanic tells me that a new catalytic converter is needed. Given the magnitude of this potential repair – without which this car can’t pass any emissions test – I believe we are a looking at an application of the Massachusetts Lemon Aid Law – a repair exceeding 10% of the purchase price, and consequently a return for a full refund. I intend to do that on Friday this week. Please call to discuss details.
Also, please note that your remark below regarding “no warranty” is not sufficient to excuse you from misstating the age of the tires. Common law still applies.
Thanks,
JoR

> I’m sorry to hear that it failed the emission test in Connecticut as you made reference to the eBay listing. you’ll note in the bay listing you purchased this vehicle with no warranty and also noted on your purchase and sale agreement listed as an eBay sale. So what I would recommend you do is go to whichever mechanic you normally would use for your other cars and see what the car would need in order to pass the Connecticut inspection
