When purchasing my vehicle they lied to me about what vehicles they had in stock to get me in just to up-sale me. Then just recently a had a coupon for one year free service and they refused to honor it. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!! Buyer beware.
Not sure what everyone else is griping about.. maybe buying/leasing a brand new car is different ballgame..
Anyway, I just had a fantastic experience purchasing a used Mini, with the help of Nick L. and the hilarious finance dude (whose name I forget- sorry!). I have some past credit issues, but the dealership worked with my needs until we found a down-payment and monthly payment arrangement that worked for all of us. I couldn’t be happier with my car or the attention I received. Thanks again, guys!
If someone gives this dealership a good review then they were amazingly lucky. All the negative reviews are right on the money. This place is an absolute joke. The arrogance of management is laughable and it starts at the top with John Ashdale who proclaims 30% off, a flat out lie. This dealership is located right next to Coatesville and my assumption is that they feel the average clientele has bad credit and can be taken advantage of.
When you are clearly getting irritated at their lies about price, Jim will try to shake your hand while delivering a cheesy “one liner”. Jim, guess what…you’re not very clever and no one is blown away by your $25 cufflinks.
I was very disappointed with my visit to this dealership. I was interested in possibly buying a new Hyundai since they have come a long way. However, I was offered a terrible interest rate of 11% on a new black Hyundai Santa Fe! I was outraged since I have good credit and a 10 year work history. The sales person and the finance guys kept trying to convince me to take this horrible deal and would not listen to what I wanted from them. Finally, I had enough and decided to take advantage of Honda’s summer end deal. I was beyond pleased to have purchased a 2012 black CR-V with 0% interest!!!!! because as I wrote, I have good credit! Hyundai missed out on an opportunity by ignoring my desires and wants and trying to rip me off with a Hyundai that was overpriced. Hyundai’s have come a long way but they’re still not better than or as good as a Honda!
Do not purchase from this dealership. They have the sticker price on the vehicle and then they put a Hyundai label beside it and add on another $5,388 for stupid services like 2 years of oil changes, free car washes etc. Do not be fooled by that sticker. Other Hyundai dealers do not add on this $5,388 to the sale price. This is such a rip off. I was so sales pressured that I did not even get a chance to read the stickers until after I signed and purchased the vehicle. Go to the Lancaster Hyundai dealership on Manheim Pike. I purchased a 2012 Elantra for a starting price of $23,923 and in Lancaster I could of gotten a 2013 Elantra with more options on it for a starting price of $17,800. Remember the Better Business Bureau rates Colonial Hyundai of Downingtown, PA FFFFF!
Service dept. is terrible! Purchased my vehicle and it had 176 miles on it…..the one wiper would guit working randomly and the Service Dept. told me I had to clean my windshield off before using wipers. Hello! I am driving down the turnpike and it starts raining????? Had to stay at a hotel one night due to wiper not working and they kept blaming the problem on me. Took it to my regular mechanic whom said it was stripped and replaced the unit.
Had my vehicle for 3 days to repair sunroof – when I got the car back it had a little over 200 miles on it!
Also, they have stolen items from my car. The service people whom take the calls/work with you about repairs.
when I comfronted them, they acted like I had dropped it in the parking lot after the parking was combed by myself and the service manager.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DEALER AND DID NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM. Using a special pricing certificate from USAA, Colonial was one of 3 dealers that provided quotes (Pacifico, Colonial & Porter) for a Sonata 2.0T & Limited 2.0T. While Pacifico had the lowest price, Colonial was closer to me so I went to them first. (Didn’t go to Porter, the closest dealer to me, as their price was way out of line). Colonial played games, told me my special pricing (and matching Pacifico’s lowest price quote) was not possible, limited my choice to in-stock vehicles, wouldn’t honor my $500 Military Rebate, tried to up-sell (a maintenance package) to offset my special pricing and used hard-sell used car-like sales tactics with an unfriendly attitude (“why can’t you give us a (down payment) check today; what are you waiting for”…etc.). I told them up front that they had to match Pacifico’s price to get my business. I even told them that I would prefer to buy from THEM since they are 20 miles away and Pacifico is about 45 (miles away) AS LONG AS they matched Pacifico’s price and located a car in my choice of color. After all, the “Car Czar” at Colonial says he will “match” any other dealer’s price—guess his salespeople and floor managers didn’t get the memo since they won’t really do it… When they failed to work with me on my terms I walked away and went to Pacifico. Then, ironically the salesman continued to pursue me with calls, texts and even letters from his SM AND GSM telling me that they would do “anything” to get my business (“just tell us what we need to do”…). I told them plainly at that point (since they were annoying me) that if they had not played games from the outset that they (and not Pacifico) would get my business–simple as that. They had one chance and they blew it. Frankly, the Colonial staff acted more like used car salesman instead of professionals: they insulted my intelligence and discounted my age, background, experience and consumer research. This is exactly the opposite of the absolutely wonderful experience I had at Pacifico Hyundai in Philadelphia. Pacifico honored my special pricing (the lowest price of the 3 dealers in the pricing certificate) without question and worked diligently to locate my preferred car in the color I wanted even though it wasn’t in stock (a hard-to-find Sonata Limited 2.0T)—all things Colonial refused to do. Pacifico didn’t play any silly sales games and were straight up, easy to work with, not pushy at all and met all my expectations! Overall the experience was terrific and it was well worth it to wait a bit to get exactly what I wanted!–I love my Limited Turbo Sonata!! Bottom line: STAY AWAY from Colonial (unless you want games, a hard sell and like being f***** with) and GO TO PACIFICO instead–they are awesome!
Originally considered a 2005 Elantra GT from Kenny Infante. I didn’t quite have enough money (I was looking used at the time) so I passed. In 2007 I bought a 2007 Hyundai Sonata for my girlfriend. Later in 2007 I bought myself a 2007 Hyundai Sonata (Kenny Infante at the time had already left). When my brother graduated, I bought him a 2008 Sonata V6. Recently, I bought my younger brother a 2009 Hyundai Elantra SE with the Cash for Clunkers program. Great dealership with great pricing. They do pressure you like all dealerships but eventually their pricing gets to be quite good. Their owner John Ashdale is quite a friendly person and when I’ve had problems with service, he has stepped in to make everything work out. They do advertise free lifetime car washes. They failed to tell me that this is only during weekdays and now they’ve limited it only to select customers. Having bought so many cars from them, they gave me one of their preferred customer cards. This is a great dealership but I hope they don’t cut back on the perks of purchasing at this dealership too much. In any case, this is the best dealership I’ve dealt with for sales.
Went in to get a used car with less than stellar credit. I make really good money, and have little in actual bills, so my disposable income is pretty large.
Anyways, I was told that I was approved for a loan before i came in, then they asked to have a credit check run (pretty shady, they SHOULD have already run it).
We were asked to go out and look at 4-5 cars we liked, and report back which ones we would like to test drive etc… which we do (looked anyways). After this, they pulled the “good news” game and brought us to the first car (not on our list btw). I was not at all a fan of the car, but decided to test drive it anyways. At this point I decided that it was not at all what I wanted (no power, ugly interior, wasn’t an odd numbered day today), but was curious on the price. I also asked what other cars we could look at, and was promptly told that aside from some sonatas, this car was what the bank had decided (BIG mistake, since i came in asking about a specific vehicle).
5 minutes later we are back at the sales person’s desk arguing about the price as it is 5k over Edmunds book value (dealer price). They wanted a total of 15k with fees and everything tacked on….. not even considering the fact that i hated the look of the vehicle and wanted nothing to do with it. Not once did he ask what cars WE wanted. I finally got fed up with the games and walked out. His reaction was “What did I do?”… At this point I was no longer interested in even explaining what what went awry, I just wanted out.
Moral of the story….. In my opinion, if you want to pay over book for a vehicle, this is the place for you. If you are interested in being treated like they are doing YOU a favor, this is the place for you. If you love being lied to in marketing emails, only to be told they need to run your credit when you get there, this is the dealer for you.
DISCLAIMER: I may have overreacted….. It’s possible that my experience would have been better if I had waited 5 minutes more, but after hearing the sales guy argue over sale price with my wife on a car I did not want…… It created an environment that I would not rather purchase a vehicle in, and enough was enough. 20% markup over book would have been acceptable (I would have at least felt better about haggling that down), but 50% was ridiculous.
NOTE TO DEALER: I know desperate people are easy to rip off, but seriously, you have your sales process backwards….. I tell you what kind of car I want, not you. We could have haggled about price on a car that i at least felt good about… persistently asking why I do not like a vehicle is unacceptable; maybe I only like toyotas on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays of each week, does it really matter? If I do not like a vehicle, and say that, there is absolutely no reason to persist….. move on to the next one, you have plenty there. You could have had a sale, and possibly more, but the experience was just terrible. Also, when I ask your salesperson about the price, don’t dodge the question and say you do not have it, of course you do.
Prices too High. Bad sales practice. Fraud. They will increase the list price and provide discounts. Never courteous, then they will try to pay you to get good ratings. They will keep you waiting for hours. Please trust others and do not buy the car here.
Colonial Hyundai in Downingtown, PA is not to be trusted. The owner (John Ashdale) gets dressed up in a Colonial Minuteman costume to promote his dealership. What a persona – a business person portraying himself as a patriot who then rips-off his fellow countrymen/women.
I went there because of an ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer promoting rebates – zero percent financing – six month’s of free gas (gift card).
I was in a bind to buy since my previous employer took back my company car.
I trusted this sleazy dealership and went back for the rebates, zero percent financing and gas gift card. They refused my request to even discuss this matter between us.
Also, the finance manager sold me on the maintenance agreement which he said was good for 3 years of basic service. It turned out to be only good for 10 oil changes.
What a rip-off. The whole experience was a complete rip-off.
DO NOT GET RIPPED-OFF by the fake persona of greed.
BTW; The Better Business Bureau Rating for Colonial Hyundai is F
