Vultures. Sales and managerial staff use extremely aggressive and dishonest practices to pressure people into buying a vehicle. They essentially hold you hostage, use extremely sophisticated psychological tactics and hound you for many long hours, until you down. I caved in and bought a vehicle even though it was not suitable for my purposes, which were clearly explained to them when I first walked into the dealership. They asked me how much I made annually before working through the numbers. I was never given a breakdown of #’s, but a lot of papers were shoved into my face to sign by the end of the night. Thus, it was not informed consent. At that point of exhaustion and hunger, I would have even confessed to a crime I didn’t commit.
I contacted them next business day and they offered to resolve the matter. I was told that I can exchange the vehicle for another, if I paid the difference. Once again, I was essentially forced to pick one of their cars. I explained the full set of circumstances, including how I felt bullied into buying car, the interaction between me and the salesman, and specific details such as him saying “I wasn’t going to let you go until I got the sale”. It fell on deaf ears. They refused to give me my vehicle back (trade in), take their vehicle and let me walk away, even though the paperwork transaction (titling) had not been completed and I had my vehicle title in my possession. Their resolution was essentially forcing me into buying another one of their vehicles. Given financial and vehicle considerations, I was basically limited in options. Thus, I was presented with an Accord as the only other option that would work for me. I wanted a refund or even the option to shop at one of their other dealerships (Subaru, Kia, Ford, etc), but they refused.
While the Accord and Civic are excellent vehicles, neither was desired or chosen of my free will. I firmly believe that their predatory, underhanded, unethical and immoral practices should be investigated. I visited 3 other dealerships during the month, none of them coerced me like they did. They hound you, never leave you alone to think or even do some homework (on your phone) to compare vehicles, prices, etc. The salesman was told clearly NOT to run my credit, and when we were signing the paperwork, they said they ran my credit. When I explained that they were not supposed to, the business manager, Alan, told me that they must and that the salesperson (Nico) “doesn’t know because he’s in sales”.
These guys, except for Razzak Khader, are unethical, immoral, and prey on anyone. I now understand why people make false confessions. These guys are just that desperate to make a buck.
This is the worst experience i ever had. I thought of taking the 2012 Honda odyssey and it seems my credit and debit ratio doesn’t gave me 0.9% APR then i dropped off buying it and even informed the sales person not to do any credit checks as i know it would spoil my credit history and they confirmed me that they wouldn’t do anything. But after couple of days i could see 7 credit checks on my history that to 2 itself in simultaneous days of Honda. When i tried to reach the bank/Credit unions to find who has done the credit check i come to know that it is from Honda. When i tried to contact the sales person he told that he has given my details to honda and he doesn’t know anything and asked me to contact finance deparment.when i contacted fin
ance department they picked up the phone and told that they would respond back but they didn’t and also none of them responded back and even picked up my phone.
On June 20, 2012 I took my Honda Accord to be serviced by Bob Rohrman Honda Automobiles in Schaumburg for an oil change. While waiting for my oil change and minor adjustments, the service department apologized I would have a two hour wait so enjoy a nice walk on a nice day. I walked into the showroom and the cars I must admit are nice and new. I was pleasantly approached by the sale representative by the name of Razzak Khader and his manager Mohammed Hussian.
After telling Mr. Khader multiple times that I only came in for any oil change and was not interested in a vehicle purchase, he began to give me false promises offering me an interest rate of 1.9 % and telling me that my car payments would be $30-40 more per month than my current car payments. Everything he said allowed me to engage trust and confidence in the purchase. When I asked, Mr. Razzak why there was no sticker price in the window, he stated this was because it’s a special edition, and it was what they used as a Demo car. He insisted that we go on a test ride and it was great as I have never purchased a new car. No final price was ever discussed in the agreement of this purchase. He told me don’t worry as he was working with Mohammed and he was working on the best deal. Mohammed came in on several occasions and tried to talk me into a lease?! I said no I would pass this car down to one of three children. This was going to be a steal not to worry, as I informed him that I was a single mom, school teacher, raising three children with two still in college. I expressed that I couldn’t afford a high car payment due to these expenses with a son at Western and a daughter at Eastern Illinois University. We discussed his children and he even showed me a picture. I was offered water, coffee, popcorn, and even a Pot Belly’s sandwich. I accepted water as the distractions went on for four hours. He would at least match my interest rate due to a couple dings on my credit history, and keep my payments low or else this purchase would be impossible. He assured me not to worry that he drives a Mercedes because he deserves it and I deserve a nice car. I informed him that I had a nice car. A Honda Accord, 2008 that had 32,000 but I didn’t like the tan cloth seats. He said well why wait if you get the price and interest you want? You will save in the long run on upcoming expenses of an older car. Quite frankly it made sense. After we agreed upon a deal, he advised me that they just needed to transfer his figures quoted onto an official contract: He offered me a 4.9% interest rate and payments at $365.00 per month. I told him that $350.00 is the highest payment I could afford. However, we shook hands and I said I will eat beans at the end of the month. I live in a condo right down the street, my family is involved in the community, my children went to Conant High School, my daughter in the summer is a life guard for Schaumburg Park District, and my son works at Lifetime fitness as a lifeguard as well. I felt very confident this was an opportunity and they were giving me a bargain.
We wrote up the figures on a sheet of paper and he said that the finance guy would draft the final copy and not to worry they would take care of me. After I went into Matt Ashford’s office and we discussed my credit rating. I signed a total of seven documents feeling that everything was transferred in the fashion it was presented to me by what Khader had written and verbally told me. After the three of them did everything to distract me I saw on the bottom of the page, $23,000 which I thought minus the $12,000 for my car (which I lost money on as I paid $18,000 last year for my car) I would only owe the remainder of $11,000-$2,000 down payment over a 60 month period.
I drove home and borrowed money from my mom the money for the down payment and drove it to Linda Mueller’s house to show off my new beauty. She is in the market for a new car and I showed her that you don’t need another Lexus. Honda has been rated as a comparable automobile in the industry. Before bed I took out the contract to read it one more time and unbeknownst to me, the contract they drafted had 6.99% interest and payments of $392 per month, for 72 months!!! Mr. Ashford stapled information to the contract covering the core financials above. Why would I take an already high car payment of $280.00 per month and only owe $11,800 for four more years to a payment of $392.00 for six years? How could I afford a now $31,665.60 vehicle? There is no other explanation other than these men orchestrated this intentionally to defraud me? I never thought I would be dealing with flimflam men only minutes from my home?
While I understand I have no legal action regarding this as that is not the purpose of my letter, I wanted to make you aware of the bait and switch tactics of your sales force and the disservice to your clientele. Furthermore, your management was parallel to the service offered from the sales staff. Cindi Koss an advocate said she would come right over and called my attorney who I have known for fifteen years, Robert Arnold. He said it’s up to the dealerships discretion but to return the vehicle and ask for my car back. As I walked over to Mr. Khader he looked at me straight faced and said what happened did you buy a warranty or something else. I wasn’t in the office so I don’t understand why you paid that much. Unfortunately, Mr. Mohammd took a couple days off and that Mr. Ashford had the day off. Mr. Khader told me that he didn’t know what happened and why did I sign this contract? He sent over Mr. Shenkman who I told my saga to who was extremely rude to me regarding the entire situation. His words were, “This is not his problem, sorry you have buyer’s remorse, and that he will personally tow the vehicle back to my house and charge you for a tow if I were to leave the vehicle”. Mr. Shenkman gave me a new contract for showing a 4.9% so I could get the special at my credit union for 1% under otherwise he suggested I learn to read the contract. As of today, I still have not received any resolution and have spoken with Max, Jerry, Jim, and Gene. As a brand loyal customer over 12 years and having four Honda automobiles in our household, we will no longer be purchasing your product or any of your services. I will also further pursue the Better Business Bureau and advise the public of your deceptive business practices.
My attorney again advised me that a contract is a contract and legally I don’t have any recourse. I was duped! However, he said he was always under the impression that Schaumburg Honda is a reputable place and they would probably work with me given the unforeseen events of this purchase. Also, we are all active members of this community, and many organizations, and the court of public opinion would be my only option. My kids are young adults and my mother is a senior citizen; therefore, one can only hope that this type of fraud wouldn’t happen to them.
I am working with my credit union to get a 3.9% interest so my payment will be less by going through them but this car is not affordable. When I called Geico Insurance Co. and they congratulated me on my new car, I started to cry and expressed that this was a nightmare. She said well since you have a great driving record your coverage won’t change that much. I know all the people in the community, my school district (2nd largest in Illinois), friends, and family are thinking if this can happen to a single mom, head of household since my children were 2, 6 and 8 then it can happen to anyone. My oldest, has graduated and is earning an MBA, will be looking for an upgrade as he drives a 2008 Civic, with his new job promotion in business and finance at a huge company only a stones throw away from this dealership. He also is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. My middle son, a senior driving my deceased father’s 1999 Kia will need a new car after he graduates from Western in Macomb next year. My daughter drives my old 2000 Honda and is an Alpha Phi at Eastern. Look for the repeat business and not the quick buck. As the saying goes 2 friends tell 2 friends and they all tell 2 more friends. I live in a condo community of 180 units with people who I talk to everyday while walking my dog.
Please look into this and address your sales force in their everyday practices with your customers. I also noticed there are all male salesmen on the floor/management teams, and not one saleswoman or manager. Perhaps another female wouldn’t do this to a hardworking single mom who worked two jobs and has taught Special Education for 18 years.
Please help me in any way that you can as I can’t afford this $20,000 blunder (to think I didn’t go to Jiffy Lube because I couldn’t find a coupon) nor is excitement I anticipated would come from owning a new car. They rained on my parade, and have given me nothing but endless nights of sleep for the next six years and headache and heartache. Not only did they take away my hard earned money, as I only earn $54,000 a year, but they took away my trust in your great product. I truly understand the term American Greed and now know why this country is in the mess it is but I never expected to be defrauded from a Honda dealership of this caliber in my own back yard. To think we get accused of profiling but in retrospect I feel they targeted me as a woman and laughed at how the three of them scammed a stupid American woman.
Respectfully,
Denise M. Bianchi
Exactly. Their reviews on yelp and dealerrater.com are just as horrible. I, too, have filed with the BBB and will pursue with Illinois Attorney General’s Office. They did the same thing to me. Offered me less on my vehicle than carmax’s appraisal. They also don’t show you the numbers and then they pressure you into signing documents without really giving you time to go through it. Unbelievably deceptive and the only dealer out of 3 I visited to have pulled such coercive practices. I have told everyone I know – neighbors, friends, family, and coworkers. I even tell people on the elevator, customer service reps on the phone, and strangers at coffee shops. Honda Schaumburg and Bob Rohrman are not interested in repeat business, but screwing people over, one victim at a time.
I bought a Hyundai XG350 from PepeJon a little over a week ago. This was the easiest car buying experience ever. He listened to what I needed and put me in the perfect car. Between school, work and a 2 hour travel home, I really needed something comfortable and reliable. He nailed it. The GM and himself gave me a great price which really helped me out! I was in and out of there quickly and I can’t thank them enough for everything they did for me! I love my car and I am happy to speak highly of the salesman that sold it to me. Thank you!!!
The bestest car dealership ever!!!!!! john irvine is da bestest honest saleman ever
Get EVERYTHING in WRITTING!!! they will tell you verbal lies and then on the final contract they only give you a “total” agreed price, and the accessories are NOT itemized. You don’t know how much they charged for each item. They when you ask for an explanation, they refuse to break it down or return my money (the difference). They are crooks. Watch Out!!!!
I was able to trade my car under a new contract. I consider this satisfactorily resolved.
I called the Shiraz the manager to see where he towed my car (gratefully he didn’t tow the car) and he had a sudden change of heart and we worked something out. Even though he would not let me void the contract, he was willing to transfer me into another car (even though they did void the contract to put me into another). He set me up with Irfan, who was a ‘no pressure’ sales guy who let the cars sell themselves, which I was very appreciative of. Athough I didn’t get the freedom to buy another car elsewhere, I was ultimately happy with the car I did buy, a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica Touring. All I can say is do not sign for a car you are not 100% completely comfortable with. You do not get a 3 day wait period for signing a vehicle contract (their should be one). When I signed the new contract, it felt much better – I received the service I initially was looking for and I can consider this issue satisfactorily resolved.
I purchased a used Toyota Rav-4. At first, they claimed they couldn’t get us financed at the price I wanted, so I was ready to walk away and told the dealer so.
He obviously really wanted the sale because he claimed “if that is all you can do then we will get the bank to do it.”
I took the car home and was very happy with it until check engine lights kept coming on. I took back, and it turns out there were about $800 worth of repairs that needed to be done, which obviously they had to pay for. I was given a rental car.
I bought the car on a Saturday, and then on Friday, I received a call that the bank couldn’t finance me and wanted the car back. I couldn’t believe it.
I argued, saying that the paperwork says they must get finance or notice customers otherwise in 5 days, and it had been 6. They claimed it was business days even though that is not what it says.
We went back and forth, I was in tears.
They took back the car and sold us a much worse Kia sedan and then put a TRACKING device on it, implying they didn’t trust us to pay the bill.
Through all of this, everyone was so rude and had no compassion for the fact that this was completely disrupting everything in my life.
I hate this autodealer and would never go to ANY Bob Rohrman dealership again. I will talk about how terrible they are for the rest of my life.
Ultimately, these people are slime. Things looked like they were going to be good. They sold us a great used car at a price in line with what our research told us it would cost, but then — after we’d signed the contract , of course — they revealed that they had no second key, which is a standard thing to provide.
The salesman, Darin Deitrich, who had done a good job up until then, told us that the key would cost more than $200, and offered to get one for us so we wouldn’t be out of pocket. At first, they promised to order one and send it to us. After a month, we had to call to find out where it was. We tried the salesman and the manager both. Both told us they couldn’t order it because they didn’t have the VIN number — which was odd, since it was all over the registration papers. Don’t worry, they said, we’ll reimburse you. Just pay for it, send us the paperwork, and we’ll give you a check right away.
That was 14 months ago. Either they’ve ducked our calls or, when we did get through, they just lied: It’s on the way. Then: The old manager left, but the NEW manager will take care of it right away. We sent the papers three times. These people just lied and lied. All in all, the key cost almost $300, so we paid almost $300 over the stated value of the car.
Why not do you own research and then go to a dealership that doesn’t pull a fast one after you’ve signed the papers? Given the state of the economy, SOMEBODY must value repeat business, wouldn’t you think?
I bought a used vehicle from this dealership in summer of 2007 after being sold on the fact that they inspected all their vehicles and only sold mechanically reliable cars. Fortunately, I purchased a mechanical breakdown contract because in October of 2007 I needed to replace the transmission ($2,500), in January of 2008 I needed to replace the lift gate ($1,300 – not under warranty), in March of 2008 I needed to replace the Axle seals ($1,200), in June of 2008 I needed to replace the alternator and water pump ($900), in November of 2008 I needed to replace the flywheel ($1,500) and now in May of 2009 I need to replace the engine. Unfortunately, teh mechanical breakdown provider tells me that my repairs have exceeded the car’s value so they will not pay anything on this claim.
Schaumburg Honda had to know this was a LEMON and they sold it anyway!
I checked off 1 for Honesty, Promises and treated – not sure why it shows a 3
First off,
The most pleasurable experience ever. I have owned and purchase many cars. The time at Scahaumburg Honda was simply incredible from conception to completion. John did all he could for my wife and I and made or dim dark situation bright. I would refer this dealership to everyone.
Sincerely,
Chris
