STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP!!! This place is terrible. I honestly believe they all have to go through some “How to Scam our Customers” class before they are hired. Sure they all act professional and polite, and offer you drinks and cookies – but they ALL seriously lack morals. First, they sold me a SUV that started having issues on the way home. I brought it back (2 hour drive) after the check engine light came on (within days of buying it). We had the code read at Auto Zone before bringing it back to the dealership, and Auto Zone diagnosed a “cylinder misfire” – a pretty serious and expensive problem. The dealership told me there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, and that they cleared the code. Obviously, anyone can “clear” a code. So, apparently this was a magical self-fixing vehicle (right). I did not feel comfortable driving my family around in this truck, so I asked that they take it back and get me into something else, since they refused to acknowledge there was a problem. After speaking with three different people, and having to get very upset about it, they agreed to getting me into something else on their lot. Well, I found a car that was listed $1,000 less than the SUV (figuring I would take the loss to get into something else reliable). But, that wasn’t enough for them. They took $2,000 off the SUV for trade-in value (keep in mind I had the vehicle for DAYS – not weeks or months). Then they did not carry my warranties I purchased for the SUV over to the new car, but added new warranties to the paperwork without explaining to me that was how it was going to work. That totaled another $3,000 loss. The interest rate they stuck me with on the second vehicle was 1% higher than the original loan, and they never mentioned one word about it. Everything was very rushed with the final paperwork and signatures – nothing was explained. They kept acting like they were doing me a favor (yeah right). On a side note, I am a female – was alone that day that I returned the SUV, and 7 months pregnant. Easy to take advantage of in their book? Yes. In hindsight, I should’ve spent more time reading all the small print, but I wasn’t given that opportunity and honestly after hours of waiting there (another scam tactic I believe), I just wanted to get home to my small children. When I called about the warranty issue after having time to read that paperwork at home, they treated me like an idiot, and said in no way could they ask the warranty company to refund that money. I knew arguing with them would get me nowhere, so I gave up. To top all this off, when I entered the second car I purchased to leave the dealership I noted there were no floor mats (after signing paperwork that listed floor mats were included). The salesman said he would send some in the mail. After waiting four months, and inquiring several times – I have only received excuses (not surprised).
In summary: The whole experience has been terrible. After all was said and done I ended up paying almost $20,000 for a $13,500 car. Tell me how that is fair or ethical? I couldn’t even get floor mats they promised me. So very disappointed in this car dealership. I honestly feel like this is more of a scam artist paradise using cars as a “front”. There are so many other reputable dealerships out there – and I’ve never had problems like this anywhere else. STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!
WATCH OUT PEOPLE! Seriously… These people are sneaky and have no integrity. Arron is NO MARINE. I served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty-two years did three tours in Iraq and awarded two purple-hearts. I’m forty years old and served my country with pride and dignity.
Aaron is a type of Marine that likes to show off. A big talker with no mind or muscle. A single tour Marine that claims that he’s done everything. The type of Marine that gets other Marines killed in action, and willing to back stab another for extra money isn’t a brother. No Semper Fi for this Devil Dog. Get the heck out of my fox hole Marine.
Sorry for my rant, but for someone to come across and flat out lie too and cocky isn’t someone worthy to purchase. His manager Rick isn’t any better. Two peas in a pod…
This was months ago we visited We had to wait for someone to come and help us after standing at the door looking all stupid when there were clearly salesman standing all over just chatting away. We finally got someone to assist us in looking at a truck. My husband was in loved with it, but I insist we look elsewhere. Since the price was right (he claimed), we decided to finance it. We had a horrible long two hours talking to the salesman about financing it. He was so business doing gazillions thing at once, we had to wait so long after every time we signed something or answered a question. After my precious time was wasted, I was told to come back the next day. There was something wrong with the truck that needed to be fix. Obviously, they thought we were born yesterday because we were told many different things. Let’s just say, they don’t have respect for their customers nor do they care to smile. I haven’t seen a smile on this guy’s face since we been there. It was very uncomfortable and rude. We just decide to go ignore their calls the next day and bought a ford truck a mile away. Thanks for showing how customers mean to you guys. By the way, if the stupid kid with the name SHUT UP YOU WHINER does reply to this post, it obviously mean you are really one of the worker at Van Horn Hyundai. Don’t bother commenting because it won’t hurt me. It will only make me feel better that I offended you with my post. LOL…toodles suckers.
Not the buying experience you would expect from a dealer. One would get better customer service and better treatment buying direct from an owner locally out of the paper or on Craigslist. They have a nice appearance and get you in. They are all very busy (at least look like it) and the customer service suffers. Once you buy a vehicle forget it. Multiple phone calls, multiple emails to Sales, Sales Managers and the General Manager and no call backs, no returned emails, nothing. Do your research online, get a reliable used car and if its a good deal get the used vehicle checked out before purchasing and get the lowest price because you get nothing from them. Pictures don’t tell you everything when looking online. Don’t expect gas in the tank, don’t expect floor mats. don’t expect multiple keys or working key fobs. Hey I even found a dead lizard in the door pocket.
Salesperson was extremely pushy, but overall I was extremely happy with the car once I left the lot. However, it’s been just over a month since I bought the car and I started noticing some noises and wierd things happening while I was driving on the highway, sounded like I ran over something large. Turns out, there was a recall/update that needed to be done on the car (2011 Sonata) which forced the car to shift into lower gears abruptly. One would think that buying a car directly from a Hyundai dealership would elimnate these problems, especially with a recall that came out over 6 months ago! Stay away from Van Horn.
Very push salesman and tried to scam me one year worth of payment.
Boy this sounds like what I found out at this dealer. Every question was answered with a question what will it take to get you to buy right now. Maybe it’s just the sales person. Lot’s of positive reviews here for Stefani and there experence sounds nothing like what mine was. I like the Hyundai and want one. Anyone know of a good dealer that handles them? By good I mean one that don’t answer a customer by saying SHUT UP U WHINER.
I recently bought a used Toyota Tundra from this dealership and could not be happier with the service I recieved. This was a fun truck buying expieriance which is not what I’m used to. The price was great and so was everyone, Thanks Van Horn. —–Kenny:)
I was prepared for a fight when I walked into the dealership (it was my fifth stop of the day) but boy was I shocked when they greeted me with a smile and Stefani asked me what I was looking for. (she did not tell me what I would look “great” driving) I was so pleased with how professional she was and how she seemed to have no problem answering the hard questions (pricing and warranty) I always get prepared for those answers but this visit was so painless I will be coming back here for my vehicles in the future!!!

When I walked in the door I prepared myself to fend off the sales people but little to my surprise they were very nice and friendly, I met with Stefani who showed me the 5 different vehicles I wanted to choose from and I finally made my choice on a 2008 Sonata. I love the car and I love the relaxed feeling while I was buying. She did not push me to wards the most expensive vehicle just to “make a buck” she allowed me to choose what I wanted I will definitely be back again!!!!!When I walked in the door I prepared myself to fend off the sales people but little to my surprise they were very nice and friendly, I met with Stefani who showed me the 5 different vehicles I wanted to choose from and I finally made my choice on a 2008 Sonata. I was very pleased with the way I was treated when I stoped at this dealership while searching for a car for my husband. It is very difficult for us to shop for him sinc ehe does not speak English. I was so excited to hear they had a bilingual sales person here. My husband had so many questions and Stefani answered them all honestly. My husband was so happy that she could tell him eveyrthing he needed to knwo with out me having to translate it for him. I will definately come back and work with Stefani when I look for my new car!!!!!!

I’ve purchased vehicles before from Van Horn Hyundai and it’s same every time. Great customer service! I’m known by name and the sales staff and Managers says “Hi, how’s it goin? How’s the car? The Family” etc. I’ve sent in numerous family and friends in to purchase and they’ve had the same treatment as I have. They also have a pretty good selection – Dad got a Tucson, Mom has a Santa Fe, Sister-in-Law has a Dodge, My Brother has gotten a Ranger and a Dodge Ram from them already A couple of friends have also gotten a car from them too. Highly recommend going over to them for your next car. Service dept. is good too, Mary and Kay will answer all of your questions without making you feel like an idiot for asking and if they don’t know the answer they will get the techs to talk to you.
I bought a used Pontiac G6 from Van Horn Hyundai of Fond du Lac about a week ago, Let me say how nice and personable Mike was. He is one of the nicest salesman I have ever dealt with. He isn’t bad to look at either, from any angle, if you know what I mean!:D He was kind and didn’t make me feel like I didn’t know anything about cars because I am a women. The car I purchased showed an accident on the carfax report, but the car was beautiful and showed no lasting effects from what was probably just a fender bender. Mike told me that the dealership stood behind the structual stability of the car as long as I knowed it, which was a guarantee I have never been offered anywhere else. That made me feel good about my purchase, and gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling! I would definately do business with Mike and Van Horn Hyundai of Fond du Lac again and recommend them to family and friends!
In response to Firazad1 statement about poor customer service. Mr. Ali had a purchased his vehicle on Saturday at 5:40pm (we close at 5pm on Saturdays) and agreed to pick it up at 10am on Monday morning so that he could get back to Iowa after staying with his family for an extended vacation. The vehicle was detailed and fueled as to his request and ready to go at 9:30am. Mr. Ali did not arrive until 11:10am for his 10am scheduled delivery to complete paperwork with the business manager. Mr. Ali had to wait in the service lounge while a scheduled 11:15am delivery was completed. Afterward the 11:15am delivery, Mr. Ali had his paperwork completed in 20 minutes when it usually takes 40 minutes, so that he could get back on the road. I’m sorry that our service did not meet your level of satisfaction.
Thogh the Prices are cheaper than other dealers nearby, the customer service is really, really bad. The dealership should understand price is not the only important. The customers look for good service with dignity.
I would not recommend this dealership and please pass the word around and they have to be taught a lesson how powerful the customers are.
My husband and I recently bought a new Sonata from the dealership in Fond du Lac. We were looking for 6 months and to many dealerships in the area and beyond. As soon as I walked into FdL Van Horn Hyundai I felt at ease. We weren’t pressured at all and everyone there was so polite and accommodating. We picked out our new car from the many Sonatas that were on the lot and gave it a test drive. Wow! Then Josh, our sales guy explained every detail of the car and was able to answer any questions and concerns I had. Richard was our finance guy and I tell you he sure got us the best deal we would ever get. Both my husband and I felt they worked the finance to the best of our budget. Overall the buying experience was excellent so much so that my son is in the market for a new car and we are sending him right on over to the Van Horn Hyundai dealership in Fond du Lac! Three cheers for all you guys over there and thank you! :p
I purchased a 2008 Hyundai Sonata from Van Horn(Josh wasmy salesman) back in July of 2010. I must say that after all of the vehicles I have bought in my years, this was the greatest experience yet! Not only did I feel like my business was truely appreciated, the price I got on the vehicle was thousands less than anywhere else that I could find. Thank you again and I will recommend all my family and friends to come visit Van Horn Hyundai of Fond du Lac for their next vehicle purchase!!
I walked into Van horn not knowing what i wanted to purchase. Tom Vang was my salesperson. He sat me down gave me a couple of option, showed me a couple of cars. I ended up buying a Lexus IS 250. The only thing I really question was on the Wisconsin buyers guide it states bought at auction with repaired frame damage. I found out that this really means nothing. I took the vehicle to my own body shop and nothing was damaged with the vehicle, took the vehicle to my machanic he didn’t find anything. So after words I went back to the dealership and asked for the carfax Mr.Vang showed me the carfax it was clean. Over all I had a great experience With Van Horn Hyundai. The sales team was great, the managers made me feel welcome. I would for sure purchase again from this dealership. If anyone out there is looking for a vehicle along with great service I would consider Van horn Hyundai all day. Thanks guys keep up the great work. https://cardealercheck.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
I recently purchased my Brand New 2009 Hyundai Sonata from Van Horn Hyundai of Fond du Lac and the experience was great. I got a great price without a whole lot of going back and forth, and fair and honest answers to questions as well. (Some of the questions that I asked I already knew the answers too. I just wanted to see if he was going to b.s. me or give me a real answer.) Salesperson knew his knowledge about the cars and the entire sales team worked with each other to make sure that I was helped! (It was a busy day, and they all chipped in to make sure that I didn’t have to wait around, they pulled the cars right up to the front door, showed it to me, and answered all of my questions) The Sales and General Manager both Thanked me for my purchase as well, which I did not receive from the last two places that I bought from. When I came back in for my oil change (first one was free on them!), they still remembered my name and the car that I bought and asked how I have been doing with it. My father-in-law bought a Tucson for himself, my mother bought a Santa Fe, and my sister-in-law bought a preowned car, all within a 3 month period as well…all of them came from Van Horn Hyundai! And all of them had an equally enjoyable experience as well! Highly Recommend them for your next purchase.
I do not usually have good luck when it comes to buying vehicle since I am not very assertive I usually send my husband to do these kind of purchases. He unfortunately passed away so I was forced to go alone and give it a try. I have found that most times I feel pressured to buy what they offer me I really enjoyed the fact that since I showed up at this dealer they were very relaxed with me I enjoyed speaking with the sales rep she was so sweet and she did not push me to buy anything she let me choose what I wanted I love my new sonata I am so glad I went there. I will be back if I never need a new one
I had came in to have my truck looked at since the breaks were squeeking it turned out there was nothing worng they must have just gottne wet. I felt so bad for waiting there time over nothing but htey were very understanding they did not make me feel bad for bringing in a truck for break issues that were not even issues. Thank you for being so understanding.
I came in to have some maintainence done on my car and Iw as pleased that the time frame they gave me was ACCURATE. most times when I go to get work done at other places it takes forever and they never tell you any updates I was happy to see this was not the case here thank you for your hard work to make us happy. Keep up the GREAT work 🙂
I was very pleasedwith the service I recieved at the dealership. I will be back after this to buy all my vehicles here.
I was prepared for the worst time when I drove on to the fourth dealership lot in one day. I was not ready for what I was greeted with, the whole lot was set up for you to look around with out being “attacked” the moment you drove in. I ended up sitting with the woman who works there and I bought a KIA
Sedona. I am in LOVE with my vehicle I have three kids and this vehicle is SO spacious and I was very pleased with all the information the sales woman had given me. I will make sure to tell everyone about the great experience I had at Van Horn.
I called to get some information on some cars on the lot and the rep that I spoke with was very polite and professional I enjoyed the fact that when I called she did not seem to be bothered with all the questions I had for her. When I showed up at the dealership at the time we agreed on I was treated with respect and honesty. Everything she told me I was getting I got. I will always shop locally now.
I wanted to take a moment to let everyone here know what I thought for the dealership I bought my last truck from. I was never treated the way they treated me I enjoyed the fact that they did not swarm my car while I drove into the lot. I feel that Stefani is one of the best dealers since she seems to have a lot of knowledge on the cars she is selling it was refreshing to find a dealer that is not shady or pushy
I had the best experience while looking for my most recent purchase. I drove on the lot and I was not pressured to buy on the spot I was given the time to make my decision and look at the few cars I was interested in. My sales person was Stefani Padilla and she was so professional and honest that no matter what question I asked her she always had an answer for me. I will definately come here next time I am looking for a new car.
service was amazing and freindly, took care of me with speed and honesty. anwsered all questions i had and spoke clear and proper:)
I recently bought a Santa Fe from Michael Schibline at Van Dorn Hyundai in Fond du lac, Wisc. He was nice enough to work with during the purchase but he did not follow through on the “Make Right” agreement after the sale. Mr. Schibline agreed to initiate a warranty order for a replacement front grill to the vehicle – so that we would not have to go to a local dealer, make the request, wait, etc. Of course, after the sale, Mr. Schibline said he would “contact service” but did not call me back personally; I’m now told I should “do this at my local dealer” and “let them know if there’s any trouble.” That’s very unsatisfying and should put future buyers on notice when considering Michael’s post-sale commitments. Other than that, the purchase experience was positive.
Sorry, the dealership name is Van Horn (not Van Dorn)
I personally called and reached Mrs. Dornan. I explained that I was unable to schedule work and order parts through another Hyundai dealership.I offered Mrs. Dornon to have her vehicle picked up at her residence (quite some distance away), provide them with a loaner car, perform the warranty work (as promised) and return the Santa fe back to them. Mrs. Dornan stated that it was no problem to go to their local Hyundai Dealership to perform repairs. I told Mrs. Dornan that if there was any difficulties to please let me know and I would personally take care of them.
Mrs. Dornan thanked me and said “she loves her new Santa Fe. I am at a total loss as to why the customer found this “unsatisfactory:. Unless, of course, there was miscommunications between Mr. and Mrs.

What a Great Experience!! I just got a new Hyundai Sonata and by far one of the best purchases that I’ve made. I was greeted by Joe Thomas and he made me feel very comfortable right away. I told him that I was not in a rush and he completely respected that. (I actually ended up coming in Three different times before I purchased and each time he took his time and answered all of my questions) Each time that I told him I was coming in, he had the car that I wanted to drive pulled up and ready to go for me. I was comparing a few different cars but the Sonata and the service was what sold it for me. (What I didn’t like was how a rival dealer right up the road near Walmart as bad mouthing Van Horn – what a turn off) I told Joe where I wanted to be (after doing my research online and discussing it with my husband) for my trade and the final price of the Sonata. He “went to bat for me” and I got what I wanted!!! I didn’t have to pull teeth or go back and forth and do the typical sales game with “I have to check with my Manager”
The financing went through very quickly and Tim Brenner was a pleasure to deal with. I look forward to showing off my New Sonata and have already told a few of my friends about it, and bragged about the deal that I got. I highly recommend going to Van Horn for your next vehicle and if you can work with Joe, it will be in your favor!!! Love the Car, the Warranty and Van Horn!! Thank you!!
Ok so here is the deal, just finshed off buying a car from jd byryder,my credit actully got better credit score of 670 not great but not terrible,Talked to rick, said he could get me a good loan, he did, called me said come pick out a car when I got there no one botherred to even approach me,I had to go to the desk and ask for help, red flag number one.I talked to rick asking how much I was approved for no answer,he said he had 2 cars for me to look at,Sillt me I actully thought I might pick out my owncar.Keep in mind I still have no idea how much the loan is for so I have no idea what I can even look at.He pushes a 06 Cienna on me it only has 4900 miles on it,right away that seems odd,I try and drive it but it wont go straight down the road I am 6’4 340 and had to fight with the wheel just to get back,I get back and inform the salesman something is up with this car,he proceeds to tell me maybe the tire is low, hmmmm ok what about the messed up rim and big scratch on the passenger side,he actully says to me “well you know its used, like I’m buying a 75 nova,I say yes; a 20000 used car, after wich rick informs me the loan terms are 72 months at 22.5 percent intrest…….hmmmm ok I would be better going back to jd byryder….total bs There is no doubt that cienna was in a big time wreck, I cant belive this place isnt under investigation…….
Geez!!! 22% interest!! You have to work really hard to earn that high of a number in interest. In case you were wondering…at that point in life you don’t get to pick a vehicle out. The bank does and you should be grateful that anybody was willing to give you a loan!! As for it pulling off to the side of the road and struggling to keep it on the road, when you have an uneven load in a vehicle it will want to pull to one side or the other. This is usually affected by about 340olbs. It would also be easier to drive if you put the twinkie down and used BOTH hands to drive. I can’t believe your not on the Jenny Craig diet.
Purchased used vehicle on a Saturday. Sales guy stated they had trouble starting vehicle and new battery installed upon purchase. Saturday night could not start vehicle. Friend attempted to remove starter to replace but unable to. Upon replacing all parts vehicle started. Was told to take to drop off at service center Sunday to have starter replaced Monday. Would not replace starter under Ford Warranty since vehicle kept starting up at Service Center. No proof starter was bad. Told to wait until unable to start vehicle to call for tow truck and send to Ford Dealership to fix starter. Basically have to wait until I’m stranded somewhere to call for tow truck to fix vehicle properly even though they knew something was wrong to begin with!!! Have had many people tell me they would not buy a vehicle from Van Horn after I already purchased mine…now I know why.
Real smart buddy! Bash Van Horn because Ford will not honor there warranty on the Car. Maybe you should talk to someone at the Service Motors about the issue instead of whining on this site!! Another reason to buy foreign. Didn’t you know that Hyundai has a 10year 100k powertrain, 5 year 60k bumper to bumper, AND get this…..5 YEAR UNLIMITED MILEAGE ROADSIDE COVERAGE!!! You must be the village idiot in your town!!
just to let the guy on here that had the bad expierence on the Oddessey , you should not have to go thru that but one thing you should know that you are mistaken on is there is no and i mean no 3 day waiver or cooling off period. you buy or sign you own the car. check with the department of motor vehicles they will tell you this is true. the reason i know is i had a problem with a car i bought from a appleton dealer and wanted to take it back the next day, i thought i had three days , the dealer said no. i called the state and they told me the same thing, there is no 3 day. just for your future reference
Was interested in a Honda Odyssey van located at VAN HORN HYUNDAI in FOND DU LAC, WI It was priced right so we called on it despite having a terrible experience looking at a vehicle years back at Van Horn Dodge in Plymouth WI. Over the phone the sales guy got the ok to lower the price 2k$ from asking. Now the 06 Odyssey EX-L with DVD and NAV was down to 19,500$!! Now we’re really interested. Arrive at dealer to look at van. Well equiped for the money. Loaded in fact. Were told we could not test drive the van as it had not yet been safety inspected. To aid in looking at vehicle the van was driven into a service bay so we could look it over and stay warm. I shut the van off because I was indoors now, breathing exhaust. Sales guy discloses that van was in an accident, and that it was bought at auction. We stayed interested in the van despite learning this, as many vehicles go to auction and many have been in fender benders and fixed right, this isn’t problem. Went back to the sales guy’s desk and started noting things that needed be done. None of these notes made it to the contract he began writting up without us truly agreeing to a contract. Verbally it was all sunshine and confidence. “Everything will be taken care of.” “We’ll work with you.” and “Don’t worry about that.” were common replies from sales guy to our questions. At this point we’re getting somewhat uneasy, but due to high pressure and our gut to trust people we put 200$ down on the vehicle to HOLD it and sign the contract with the caviat that customer will have to approve financing before purchase. We were assured that if we didn’t like what we saw after the van was prepped for sale, we’d have no commitment to it. To review- the ultra low price for this van was what held our attention. It was 3k$ or more below market! We found out why.
Turns out (through the magic of the internet) that the van was titled in FL, was in an accident- complete with police report number, retitled in GA, then retitled in FL, and then sold through ABC Orlando auto auctions. Turns out that ABC Orlando Auctions posts the sold price of all their vehicles online by VIN, date, etc. VH bought the van in “Rough” condition with “Repaired Frame Damage” for 14,400$. No wonder they’d sell it to us for 19,500$. They still make upwards of 5 grand on this thing! Also we researched possible reasons why the title would have been transfered from state to state in such a short time frame. Title Washing explains it. GA has looser salvage title laws. Clear the title by registering it in a neighboring state then register it at home again with a clear title. We’ll find a different van. Meanwhile a different sales guy called me twice wondering when I was going to take delivery on the new van. This was getting ugly. Now I just want my 200$ back and a voided contract.
4 days after the original visit to the dealer, I returned to VH in FDL and was met by a third sales guy that was clearly disappointed to hear that we didn’t want the van. He promptly ran to his GenMgr to let him know they were about to lose a sale. The GM (Rick) came out of his office and proceeded to lecture me and scowl at me with lines such as; “I hate people like you! You can’t hold up your end of the bargain! (and my favorite) I am so sick and tired of people signing contracts and then expecting to be able to back out of them! I aught to keep your 200$ and charge you the contracted 5% of the purchase price!” (except that WI is a 3-day-state which allows the consumer to take 72 business hours to consider a contract before it is binding- we were barely into the third busness day when I asked for our 200$ back.) Maybe so many people wouldn’t back out of contracts if they weren’t strong armed into them in the first place. Rick finally agreed to refund the $200. Then he tried to jerk me around even more by saying that he couldn’t “refund the 200$ till tomorrow when the finance guy gets back”. I’m thinking, any hardward store cashier can refund 200$ on my credit card, why can’t the GM of a car dealership do it? And why are you open for business without a finance guy in the building? He even went so far as to say he didn’t think thier credit card machine could return funds, that it was only set up to take funds. (I was laughing inside) So I pressed on. I told him that I wasn’t leaving until it was taken care of and that I’d appreciate if he’s make an effort. He brought my card and the contract to the front desk where a nice receptionist-type lady ran the refund through without a hitch. Rick also scrawed VOID across my copy of the contract and signed it. I shook his hand and left.
If you see a deal that is too good to be true- it probably is. Now I have the chance to add to the negative reviews on Van Horn Hyundai in Fond Du Lac, WI. Steer clear of them. Nothing is as it seems. As for the GM, Rick- I have never met a bigger jerk in my life.

Since I live 280 miles away, I asked salesman, Joe, to check the car personally to make sure it was straight. A short time later, he called me to relate that everything was proper. ie: all paint matched, wheels were ok, body showed no irregularities. I asked about the “carfax” and he said 1 owner and no reported accidents. When I showed interest, he said that he had to disclose that there was previous frame damage. He went on to say that it could be as simple as a damaged front bumper replacement where bolts may have been removed from the frame. He said if the frame is changed (bolt removal), voila, frame damage. He said the damage must have been minimal due to the clean carfax. Upon my arrival, I looked the vehicle over. I could see that the front fender had been repainted. Not perfect but close. I would think that if a layperson such as myself could see the difference, that an experienced salesperson would find it. Maybe Joe needs to visit the eye doctor. I took the car for a drive and it felt solid and decided to proceed. I knew that the internet price was only valid if I financed 80% of the sales price thru the dealership. (another way to make more $ from buyers). Yes, Tim (the F&I person ) tried to sell me an extended warranty and seemed a little put out when I refused. I then had to sign a release stating that if I sought other financing or payed off the loan within 6 month, that I would be slapped with a $500.00 lien. No sign paper, no get car. Or pay the $500 penalty up front. Papers signed, they give me THE key. Just one. When asked for any others, Joe says that’s all they got. (Replacement key is $21 plus $47.50 to program it.) No they didn’t offer to get another one. Got the car home and noticed that it didn’t have traction control as advertised. (A selling point.) Called Joe and he said he would have to check with Gen Mnger to see what could be done. NOTHING, zilch, nadda, not even a meaningless “Sorry.” I was told that it was my own fault for not checking the car prior to purchase. (Thought Joe did that when I asked him to check it for me.) Also, they are covered because they have a disclaimer stating that they aren’t responsible for listing errors. (No such disclaimer is shown on the Cars.com.listing.) I said to Joe, does that mean Van Horn can list a vehicle, make errors in the listing, intentionally or not, and they could hide behind the disclaimer?. Joe says “Pretty much.” I wonder how many people have called Van Horns and said, “hey you guys made a mistake. I got leather seats instead of cloth. Or, “Van Horn forgot the moon roof” . Hey, it’s got a 6 cylinder not a 4. Another case of sell the car and say anything to make the deal. I do see their point tho, I’m 280 miles away, why should they do anything for me.
WOW! 280 miles away! You must have thought that it was a great deal in order to drive that distance. As much complaining as you are doing about the car, why did you purchase it? Did you even ask the Salesman if it had the TCS or were you just being an ass and assuming that it had it? I’ve traded in vehicles before with one key. other people have to. your beating up on a dealer for less then a hundred bucks for a key!?! You are buying a used car moron, not a new one. It will have some wear and tear with it. If you want perfect, quit being a cheapskate and buy new. you’ll also get a extra set of keys!! 🙂
Seriously, who is this stupid SHUTUPWHINER kid on here. Obviously is someone from Van Horn FDL trying to tell the customer off. That’s really professional of you to represent your work place huh? Must make you so happy to say such rude comments back. It obviously tells a lot about the business because of the rude response.

In response, yes I did assume the traction control was there. After all, it was advertised and prior discussion with salesperson led me to believe that it was equipped as advertised. What you don’t know is, that the Wisc Att General’s office sided with me. Something about “Truth in advertising.” Just a little added protection for the consumer. Anyway, Van Horn ended up paying me $350.00 for their error. Thank you Att General’s Office.
Also, the Wisc banking something-or-other was notified. This is a watch dog entity which oversees financing transactions throughout the state. Turns out, they too sided with me.They stated that Van Horn could not force me or anyone else to use their financing or be penalized for using someone outside of their group. Naturally, I then made my own arrangements for financing.
Nice work on your post. Next time you should dig a little deeper before you stick your other foot in your mouth
So let me get this straight. You said that you assumed that it had it and then blamed the SalesGuy. Did you ask him “Do me a big favor before I drive my whiny ass 280 miles and look on the dash board for the TCS button and let me know if it has it or not. Because if it doesn’t and you tell me it does, there will be no end to my bitching and moaning”? Even if you hinted to it in terms like that, I’m sure he would have been off his chair and out the door just to make sure that your question was answered just so that he wouldn’t have to listen to you. Also that the everyone in the business world is siding with you because, and I quote “They stated that Van Horn could not force me or anyone else to use their financing or be penalized for using someone outside of their group.” Well, if that is the case then I will definetly remember that when I see a 30%, 40%, 50%, etc off when you put your purchase on the Sears Card, Target Card, Home Depot Card. Because that is EXACTLY the same thing that these stores do in order to make more money for themselves. You either take their financing or you don’t get that discount, sounds pretty cut and dry to me. Also they have a clause in the papers, internet sites, etc. called a Retract. Meaning that if for some reason they have a screw up, like they advertised in autotrader a 26,000 dollar car and the computer guy on the other end types in 2,600 for the same car. That they don’t have to honor that price. Because, it is a mistake. The part that I love is that you say the dealer corrected the mistake by paying you 350 bucks to make you a happy little customer even though you are 280 miles away, and will never see you again….and then you still went on this website and bashed the dealer and the salesguy up. You sir are an outstanding human being. They basically aplogized for your mistake, paid you money that they shouldn’t have, and then you continue to trash them. I would have told you to pound sand and have a nice day.:)Outstanding.

I took a used 2003 Hyundai Elantra vehicle that I was contemplating purchasing to the Van Horn Hyundai of Fond Du Lac dealership. The vehicle already had two open recalls on it that needed repair and I wanted them to verify the car was in excellent condition, like the private dealer said, and was worth purchasing. The mechanics checked everything off except an a/c belt which would need repair but no big deal. Using the results from Van Horn Hyundai I proceeded to purchase the vehicle only to have the radiator blow a week later! I then took it to the a second mechanic who told me the radiator had a crack in it that was spewing coolant on the engine causing my car to smoke. The mechanic also said anyone with car knowledge could easily see there is a crack in the radiator. The mechanic also stated someone had tried to repair the crack with an adhesive even though the whole radiator needs to be replaced. I then called Van Horn Hyundai of Fond Du Lac, and they refused to fix these repairs saying they only did a 5 point check off and you would have to take the car apart to see a crack in the radiator which they weren’t instructed to do. I am appalled by their ineffective service and poor customer service skills. I would NEVER recommend you get your car cared by this facility or deal with their unprofessional staff (Mary or Kay). I would rather go out of my way and find a proper facility to service my Hyundai than this dealership that supposedly specializes in caring for them!
I’ve not often enjoyed the car buying experience because I typically feel like I’m getting ripped off. When my husband and I went to Van Horn in Fond du Lac, we were pleasantly surprised. I wanted to look at & drive a one year old used vehicle (2008 Toyota Rav4 Sport) they had listed on the internet.
When we arrived, they had the vehicle parked up by the building and promptly handed us the keys and told us to take it for as long as we’d like. We took the vehicle out and ran it through its paces. It was EXTREMELY clean, something I really appreciate.
When it came to dealing on the vehicle, right out of the gate, we were within $800 of where we wanted to be (not too bad, we didn’t think). They actually came down to what we wanted to pay. There was the typical upselling attempts (extended warranty, spray coatings inside and/or out, etc.), but not too bad. We simply declined.
We ended up buying the vehicle, trading ours in, and picked up the new one the next night. I am very happy with the vehicle so far, after the first week plus. We dealt with the internet manager, Richard who was great to work with. Jeff was also nice. We originally made contact with Francis, who we’d rate as ok (he attempted the most upselling and his emails sounded a bit pushy… more than he was in person).
We saw some nice looking used cars on the lot at Van Horn in Fond du Lac and really appreciated their friendly approach and forthright nature during the process.”
