My son is in military and was looking to get 2010 Tacoma Truck. At first they said no military rebate offered. Then after several changes said he could get $400 military rebate at 24.99% as he joined marines on 18th Bday and had no credit history although he had over 20K to put down. Since he’s in NC we arranged for notarized authorization to conduct business which dealership said it would be fine. When we were called to pick up vehicle all that changed and after leaving $22K in checks, I was not allowed to leave with vehicle. I was assured checks would not be cashed but were next day without my permission even though it had been agreed they would not be cashed until all paperwork was signed. I reported them to toyota national which were of little help. When registration and plates came in they were made out to the wrong person. The person i was put in contact failed to return phonecalls. When I told them i needed things resolved by columbus day weekend, they could make no promises and said unlikely. My son has 72 hour leave and driving up to get his truck. The guy at dealership was so rude. When i told him i was going to contact Toyota National, he said do that and ‘see what happens to your tags’ – without a doubt an implied threat. I hope the dealership pulls the recording of the conversation and fires him. I reported him to Toyota National and dealership. If they don’t fire him something is wrong. I’ve bought 5 toyotas over the years and this will be my last. It’s no surprise Toyotas reputation is so tarnished. It’s also an insult to those in the military to be offered $400 rebate with such contingencies that one must get a loan through toyota to take advantage of it – and yes at 24.99% loan interest because of no credit history Yet there brochures in the dealership read ‘A small thank you for an enormous sacrifice’. AT the moment my son cant take truck back to base in NC without the proper registration and i’m on the hook for liability because of their mistake.
