ero trust. Horrible service. DO NOT BUY OR SERVICE FROM THEM!
Sales: told me they would match the interest rate on a quote I brought in from my bank. At the signing after we had worked through all the sales and some paperwork, they told me the best interest rate they could offer was a full 1% higher than my bank quote.
Service: Before making my first payment, after a couple weeks of buying my fairly new truck, it broke down. I called and explained, and they told me to bring the vehicle in… and when I brought it in they told me I needed to make an appointment… earliest was five day wait. Since I had recently purchased from them I thought they would be willing to treat me well and make me happy so I continued with them…. Diagnosis, a faulty battery. (I was promised from sales that a thorough inspection had been done by their service department before my purchase) They quoted me $275 for a battery only, no labor. So I called around and found a reputable battery in a local auto parts store for $140 and told the technician of the better price. He said that he would like to call them and confirm it was correct. At the end of the day I got a call saying they had put the new battery in. I gave NO APPROVAL to do the work and they proceeded without my approval. This is illegal! In addition, they ignored my question and gave me a poor answer when I asked if there was a parasitic draw on the battery. All they said was when they plugged it into the computer it said bad battery. I asked them to confirm if there was a draw… which they never did because they proceeded with the work without my approval. In reality… I hope the problem is fixed….
Finally, when I picked up my vehicle they had lost my clicker automatic door opener. Ugh, one thing after another even after I had really complained about their service.
I complained the whole way along and was treated poorly from the beginning. They did nothing to make me happy I was working with them. It appears they will gouge you at every opportunity, and will flat out lie to you, and will only do what it takes to get your money and not your approval.
Specifically, the timing chain needed to be replace. I called my local Subaru dealer, I receive a quote for $488 to replace the timing chain and I schedule an appointment. I drop off my car in the morning and I receive a call several hours later, they have my car on the rack and since they’ve already torn the engine down that far they recommend I replace my water pump early to save on labor costs later. I agree and go about the rest of my day. I arrive at the dealership after work to find my car is STILL on the rack, torn apart because they don’t have a water pump and needed to order one from a local parts store. I was assured it would be there tomorrow and I could pick up my car the following evening. The next day, I arrive to pick up my car; the tech slides the bill face down, across the counter and says “we take cash and credit”. I flip the bill over and am shocked, just shy of $900 for parts and labor!!! The water pump was $112, timing chain $170 and the rest was labor! I asked why the bill was so high; shouldn’t it be $488 plus $112 for the water pump? Of course not, the tech said, you’re charged labor for installing both parts. I was pissed! I gave the man my card, scribbled my name on the receipt and walked out of the service department muttering curse words under my breath. On the drive home, the amber check engine light appears on my dash and I immediately call the dealership. The instructed me to bring the car right back so they can see what’s going on. I spent $96 for them to tell me that one of the five O2 sensors went out, but they aren’t sure which one and it would take another hour of diagnostics to determine which one. With hesitation, I agree. I receive a call from the service department (a different person that I talked to the first time) and I am told they have determined which sensor it is, the parts are $121.98 and the labor $378.65. I agreed to the repair and the tech went to work assuring me I could pick up my car by close of business that day. Two days later, I returned to the dealership for my car and was greeted by yet another tech who explained they could not get the old O2 sensor out, the parts were in the back seat of my car, and the bill was $378.65. The tech in his most salesman like manner told me there was an alternate remedy that involved taking my exhaust system off and using a specialized tool to remove the O2 sensor from the inside of the catalytic converter, but of course there is always the risk of damaging the threads which would mean that could also need an new cat as well and this, without the new cat would be all for the low, low price of $1207.84. I inquired as to why they didn’t simply remove the exhaust, cut out the cat and replace both the sensor and the catalytic converter. The man looked at me like I was stupid. He was in awe and could only respond with that’s not in the manual. Needless to say, I did not consent to the repairs, I refused to pay the bill for the repairs they didn’t make and I have not brought any of my cars back to them since.
I wouldn’t take my car back to Mendenhall Auto Center if it was the last repair shop on EARTH!
