Bought a car from them 12 days ago. Now they tell me that my car pymt will be much higher than they thought and would not include the extended warranty. I told them upfront my credit was not great and was there on a Wednesday afternoon. Apparently 6 hours and a change of vehicle choice was not enough for them to figure out this mystery car pyment issue. I went there for a Passat, left with a Jetta TDI and will be returning the TDI on Saturday. Ethically, they should have never let me leave the lot with the car. I had been warned about this from others but chose to chalk it up to bad experience, but it was absolutely true. The manager Dan, told me this was common practice at any AZ car dealer and if this is true it is a sad, ridiculous thing. I have purchased many cars in AZ and never had this happen before. Do your home work if you are going to shop with Berge. Total unethical bs!
I purchased a certified used 2004 VW Beetle Convertible with a highly recommended extended warranty. I have had my car for less then 2 years and have been to the dealer with problems a total of 22 times. When I asked to speak with the General Manager yesterday they wouldn’t let me and told me I had to speak with the Service Manager. All that conversation entailed was him telling me that I was wrong and that I really have no reason to be upset because they “see cars there like this all the time”. I told him “I wouldn’t be bragging about that if I were you”. They pushed me out of the office as quick as they could and gave me to the sales manager to see if he could work some kind of “deal” to get me into a different car. I told him the only way to make me happy was to get me into a reliable car like a Honda or for them to pay my deductable every time I come in there since I have been there over 20 times in LESS THEN TWO YEARS of owning the vehicle. While I was at work I received a call that my car was fixed. I asked to speak with the sales manager to see what kind of “deal” he had worked up. He offered me 6K for my car that I owe 13K on and when I told him he was crazy and didn’t know what he was talking about he said “the feeling is mutual” and he also told me that it was my fault that the car had been taken to get serviced so many times because I don’t take care of it. Now that’s customer service right???? I think not. When I returned that evening to pick up my car I was greeted by a less then friendly service guy Robert. He told me that since we don’t have a very good working relationship I should take my car elsewhere next time it breaks down. I asked him for a print out of all the times I have been there so I can call 3 on your side and he told me I had only been there 9 times. So magically 13 of my visits have disappeared from their computer system!!! Dont buy any VWs made since the 60s. If you must, dont buy from this stealer-ship!!!! All they want is your money and will not help you out when they sell you a LEMON!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I buy are Volkswagen auto group brand vehicles. I have had very little issues. I’m in the process of becoming a Volkswagen tech. I can’t speak for the new beetles. Never have owned one. I’d imagine the issues with the beetle are due to the beetles only being sold in USA. They don’t sell them anywhere else. Volkswagen is currently the largest auto maker in the world above Toyota so they must not be that bad. I myself have also bought 2 jettas and 1 GTI from berge and the 06 I have developed an oil leak from a vaccum pump, the car was under warranty so I just took the car in for warranty work. Performed it and also some open recalls I was not aware of with no questions asked. I have been approached about being a sales man for them but with all these bad reviews I’m not sure. I’m not the lieing type so if asked to I would quit on the spot.

Our experience here, after the sale, was horrible. The dealership sent us documentation, offering free services for the life of the warranty (4 yr/ 50k). When we attempted to make us of this offer, they reneged. Their claim was that it didn’t apply to our purchase, yet they had sent the information to our home? One additional service incident, under warranty, was also quite negative. Never again! I now take my car to North Scottsdale VW and am much happier there. Berge…suck it!
