Took my car in for an airbag recall. When they put it back together they broke a part and they want me to fix it. I just want it back in the same condition I brought it in – why should I have to pay to repair something they broke?
I called Honda Customer Service. Don’t waste your time. They Tell me it is a “workmanship issue” and they can’t get in the middle of it.
I purchased a used Honda 2013 CRV on 10/12/2015 for roughly $25,000 from the McGrath Honda of St. Charles, IL. The first day driving it home, I noticed every time I let off the accelerator, the car would jerk. I reported this to the dealership and they told me this was due to the new CVT transmission and that I would get used to it. I had to bring the vehicle in for repair a couple days later for the seat warmer not working properly and again complained about the vehicle jerking and got the same response. A few days later when I brought my vehicle in to get a protective product applied to my vehicle, I again complained about the car jerking and was told the same thing.
On 11/17/2015, when I started my vehicle, the car died within 3 seconds of being started. I started the vehicle again and it once again died in 3 seconds. Next I started the vehicle and pressed the gas all the way to the floor and keep it depressed and it kept going back and forth between 2,000-3,000 rpms, never going above 3,000. When I contacted the dealership, they scheduled me to bring the vehicle into the service department at 7am the next morning. When I went to my car to drive it up to the dealership, it wouldn’t start at all. It took over half an hour just to get the vehicle started before I was able to slowly drive it up there because the engine wouldn’t go above 3,000 rpm. The dealer inspected the vehicle and informed me it would cost $1500 to replace or $750 to repair the cable.
I contacted Honda Corporate and the dealership and district representative refused to budge on what they would offer for the repair. I was told during the purchase that my bumper to bumper warranty covered the engine specifically, but now it isn’t.
The sales, finance and service staff and management claim they stand behind their vehicles, but clearly do not!
I had again bad experience with McGrath Elgin. While completing the paper work the finance guy asked me to buy the service coupons. I told I do not need it. He explained me that it is cheaper and you get oil service and tire rotation for every service. I specifically asked that can I use it any where? he told yes you can use any where, since coupons will come with VIN number and can be accessed anywhere. When I went to nearest Honda showroom they are not accepted. I talked to McGrath Elgin they told that you can use any McGrath. I surprised with this, I really hurt the guy saying this. Because they are not holding their words. I asked couple of times that can I use it any where the Honda Service Center. Since I am a contractor and move places for every few months for work. I ALREADY WROTE MY REVIEW IN LAST YEAR FOR MY CAR BUY. PLEASE CHECK BELOW REVIEW FOR MY OTHER EXPERIENCE IN BUYING A CAR WITH MCGRATH, ELGIN.
I SUGGEST STAYYYY AWAYYYY WITH MCGRATH, ELGIN FOR SERVICE AND BUYING A NEW CAR. THESE GUYS ARE CHEATERS AND CHEAT VERY QUICKLY.
Though I am not a fan of writing reviews, I am writing this because I am one of the guy cheated by MCGRATH HONDA, ELGIN, IL. This is the complete story of mine. I planned to buy Honda Pilot and I went to McGrath, Elgin to get the quotation. I met sales person Jerry and sales Manager Chris. He asked me what is the budget. I told that around $31,000 to $32,000. But I asked that I need leather seats. The sales person started explaining LX model with Leather option. I asked about the EX and EX-L models and he told me that they are lot of money and expensive. So he gave me the price more than $35,000 and finally bargained for $34,200 for LX with leather option. He completed this deal very quickly, without giving any time to think or calling my friends or someone. They did paper work so fast and completed it. After doing all this they showed my vehicle. I surprised that there are no floor mats, no leather seats and no roof rack(when I went test drive in another LX model that one is having roof racks too). When I asked about these options, they told me that deal is done. They told me to take the vehicle and I didn’t bring to home, because leather accessory is not there. I even didn’t sit in the car. I came to home and started enquiring other dealers. I got out the door price for Pilot EX-L with premium running boards starting from $35,050 from other dealers. Then Immediately I went to Mcgrath Honda, Elgin on next day. He is not accepted to get the EX-L for the this price. He asked me 5,900 more dollars to get the EX-L. I went to McGrath Elgin to discuss on this for 2 days and they were insisted to take LX model
which I bought first. Me and my wife doesn’t get proper sleep for couple of days on this issue. Finally I got EX-L model from them for $39,200 spending 4,150 dollars more comparetivly other dealers. I requested them to give an extra option entertainment center or navigation for this price. They didn’t give an option for bargaining the price and other options. The Chris(Sales Manager) doesn’t know how to open Cargo door also. He asked me to wait to check on this for one hour. There is no issue in the car. The issue is manager doesn’t know how to operate remote keys to open cargo door. They even didn’t explained about the options in cabin board.
I contacted Honda Motors Corporate Center on this issue. Honda Motors support sent couple of messages on this issue to McGrath Honda, Elgin. McGrath Honda is not at all called me to discuss on the issue. Honda Motors Customer support told me that they will send message on this issue to General Manager at McGrath Honda, Elgin. But no one contacted to me on this issue. IEVER NEVER SEE THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT LIKE THIS INUSA. I SUGGEST STAY AWAY FROM MCGRATH HONDA, ELGIN.
I heard these things from most of the customers who visit McGrath Honda, Elgin. Looks like they are Liars
Before arriving at the dealership for my service appointment, called to see if part was in stock, was not, asked if i brought my own part they would install it,was told yes, went in for my appointment said i have my own part wanted to have installed, they told me no we dont put other peoples parts in. After this I was told to see parts department, at first was told the same thing no we dont do that, I then disagreed and was told you do.He then made a phone call and was told to do the repair.I had walked around the corner and they were laughing, asked what was so funny and didnt appreciate being laughed at.I then stated i would go somewhere else,he then replied see ya have a nice day. I dont recommend this service department after so much disrespect.
Thanks to Dateline NBC, I took my car to another mechanic shortly after having McGrath fix up my car to verify if the service was indeed done. I had 2 separate mechanics apologizing to me claiming that I paid $1000.00 too much.
Here’s the complete story. I was informed that my car was getting a complete inspection…yeah right. I was informed that my ball joints were worn and that I needed to have my upper control arms replaced too. I also had to have my EGR kit replaced as I failed emissions (week prior). I was told that my transmission fluid was dirty and needed to be cleaned. I was also told that my sway bar needed to be replaced. I also needed a new timing belt/water pump as I was well overdue (that was true). Also, my catalytic converter was said to be rusted and needed to be replaced.
I kept calling my service guy because he claimed that a my former service rep just laid off due to slow business (I wonder why) quoted me a bit high on the prices. However, this new rep never called me back. I called him back on Friday and found out that he already left, so I left a message. I called Saturday morning and he was not yet in, so I left a message with a live person for my service rep to call me. I waited a while and called again and asked the guy in the service department if my rep was in, and he said yes and transferred me to his extension. I got my service reps voice mail instead, so I left him another message to please call me. I call again and found out he already left for the day. I called him Monday and left messages again, but he did not call me back.
Finally, later in the week I called and my service rep answered the phone. I said sort of ticked off, “I left 5 messages, do you have a problem with returning phone calls?” He said, “I called and left you a message on your recorder.” I immediately replied, “Really? How did you do that when I do not have a recorder at home?” Dead silence on the other end. I wasn’t even sent the email they told me they would.
The original price to get all things fixed was well over $3000.00. My service rep said that he will do his best to give me the lowest prices and will throw in a free air conditioning motor even though it came up on my bill as I did not see it stated as free. Anyways, I ended up spending $2900.00 when all done. I know that I am the bigger idiot as everyone told me that Dealer prices on repairs are always higher than anyone else.
I left the shop and still notice a clanking sound underneath my car. Every time I hit a bump was to feel and hear a clanking sound. I had 2 mechanics verify if the work was done. I remember the one guy saying immediately after inspection, “I am so sorry. You paid $1000.00 too much. People like McGrath give repair shops a bad name.”
He said that McGrath did do most of the work but left some things out (important things). I was charged for a wheel alignment that they did NOT do. The mechanic said that when you do a wheel alignment marks will be made that you can see. No marks were made at all. He said that there is no real way they could have done the alignment since my Front Stabilizer links were shot and needed to be replaced. I also needed a new tie rod. Right now my car is at the shop (different shop) as they also need to replace the front sway bar as McGrath only did the back. McGrath did not take care of the catalytic box, but they also did not charge me for that either. The mechanics said that it was so bad that it needed to be done. They never seen such poor work for so much money. I will respond again and break down the rip off in $$ amounts for each thing done.
I called Honda headquarters and not sure if they give a damn. The lady did keep apologizing and said that she would pass the info on to McGrath. I told her to review this site here to see what others are saying. McGrath ought to be closed down. I haven’t had any call backs.
I have not ruled out a lawyer at this time as I now have 2 statements written by mechanics confirming that what McGrath printed out as done as being either shoddy in some areas, or that I was charged for work not done. I had an oil change done too by McGrath, but they did not change my oil filter. The reason I know that is because the same NAPA oil filter I put on a while back is still there, unless Honda is using NAPA auto parts?? The mechanic doesn’t think suing them will do much as they (McGrath) will argue a bunch of BS. I will be reporting them to the BBB.
Do NOT go there for even a simple oil change. They are BSer’s looking to sucker you out of money.
Saw an internet ad on a Certified Used Car, A 2006 Chevy HHR. My wife and I were in a hurry that day but in no hurry to buy. We told the salesman we had 2 hours to be 40 miles away, he assured me we could get a cash deal done. What a nightmare. 3 hours later we left without the car and they still had our check. They delivered the car to my house3 days later. I signed all the paperwork and received the registration but the guy delivering the car said he didn’t know how to do the paperwork so they would mail it to me.
We then went out for a drive and found a horrible clunking noise coming from under the truck. A call to the Sales Manager got me “You bought it, your problem”. After enough shouting the Used Car Manager agreed to fix it and to look into an intermittent ignition issue. They made an appointment for us to bring the car back in the next morning at 6:20 AM and then told me they wouldn’t look at it for another day. Now they have had it 3 days and not only is it not fixed, the service rep for it left for the weekend, they can’t find any record of my car being there nor can they find it physically on the lot. And I still have no paper work.
These guys are crooked, they are liars and they will do anything to screw you.
Saw a vehicle online and it was a done deal. Phoned them and promised to be there in 15 minutes. I was there in 10….showing the commitment on my end. Vehicle was there. However, right off the bat, price on the internet was done in error and actual price was $2000 higher. Ok, nice! I have seen this before and now, after reading the reviews on multiple sights, I see that this is a common practice in McGrath Honda of Elgin. Not a first and certainly not a last customer with the same experience. They honored the price after going back and forth telling me how I got a deal of a lifetime (disregard any similar replies from a dealer). I gave them my verbal agreement and filled out the credit application. However, I had to leave to go to work (running late) which I let them know as soon as I got in the dealership….figure, they should have worked around my clock not theirs. They were asking me for a deposit to secure the vehicle….that is, how they view it, my commitment to buy. I told them many times that I will buy, filled out the credit application and explained that I cannot leave deposit because I do not have funds with me. Also, it felt a bit like a slap in a face because of all other commitments, they still did not believe me. I promised that I will be there the next day right when they open to finalize. To my surprise, the vehicle was sold that evening (if I was a betting man, I would bet all my money that is a lie…snowing, very cold and a work day). Also, once I tried to reason and complain, I got the phone hung up on me. That easy….no remorse. So, why buy there? I will buy at some other dealership with a bit higher price knowing that everything is right upfront and honored then buy at any McGrath regardless of how low the deal is. Note that McGrath is a chain with multiple stores….so figure out how significant you are as a single customer. YOU ARE NOT….so why buy there? Pick a dealer that is the only dealership of that owner….a small store with few cars on the lot. Regardless if they do not have a car on the lot, they will get it for you. In some cases deliver it to your house with contracts for you to sign. Check out CarsDirect.com……I was a car salesman for 7 years, a successful one too, and these are the guys that give other dealers bad rep and make people regret their purchase once it is too late. These guys are using tactics that I thought were obsolete…..ha, regardless of the fact that consumer got educated on car buying throughout the years, McGrath encourages these tactics still to this day….just a proof of how customer oriented they are. They move volume so complaining to Honda will get you nowhere…..they know that and that is why they do what they do.
I walked into the dealership today at around 2:30 pm. I immediately acknowledged by a sales person. gone for a test drive of 2010 HOnda CR-V EX and till then everything is fine. they quoted a price i mentioned what i was looking for. The sales person asked if he agree the price i quote, will i buy the car today? i said yes. He mentioned as these are the last days of month they need to meet their targets that’s why they are agreeing to the price. They ran my credit score and said I am qualified for 2.9% APR for 60 months.
I waited nearly 2 and half hours just to sign the documents and take the car. After couple of requests finally the sales person directed me to the financial guys. Then I noticed my EMI’s was more than what i calculated. I asked, why was that then he was replied my APR was 5.9%. I was shocked and totally pissed off. I just cancelled the deal and took back my down payment money. I realized that during my waiting period, nearly 4 people bought cars and with that they got their target and hence tricked me.
They are not at all professional. By the way i wasted valuable 6 hours over there.
I had been watching a used CR-V I had seen on their lot,it was way overpriced $12,998 for a car with a 138,000 miles. I called the salesman to make an offer several times on the car but they refused to budge. Yesterday April 23rd,I checked again and the price was close to what I offered I called the saleman but he had quit. Today I went there to buy the car,it was out on a pedestal with 10,998 but the internet price was $9,998. I asked to drive it and explained to the saleman that it was on the internet at a lower price,he proceeded to tell me it was $12,998. I said the sticker on the window is 2 grand less. He got the internet mgr. out of her office to tell me they had made a mistake it was 10,998 but he would talk to the mgr. to see if they would honor the price. He came back to tell me we had a deal and we started the paper work,we waited an hour nothing we just wanted to write a check and go but we sat and waited, finally he returned. I have good news and bad,the car was sold 3 days ago to a man in FL,but we can sell you something else WHAAAT??? Why did you have it out on the pedestal? C’mon what a waste of my time what a bunch of idiots I wouldn’t buy toilet paper from that bunch.
By the way I gave them a ZERO for Honesty
Gave Dealer two chances to fix check engine problem. We were out $800+ worth of repairs that ultimately did not fix the issue. Do not trust this dealer with repairing your vehicle.
This guy is not kidding. I was ripped off by over $1000.00. I had things that had to be fixed that were not fixed. These guys obviously work on a commission as they look to scam you in repairs. Prices too high and shoddy work if best. If you had work done by these jokers then have a separate mechanic verify the work done as mine verified that certain work was not done, but I ended up paying for it as though it was done. Don’t go there!!
DO NOT MAKE BUSINESS W/ THIS DEALERSHIP!!!! Both the General Sales Manager, Naim Sabir and the salesman Anthony West were extremely rude in doing business. This manager walked in to a meeting we were having with one of the other managers, threw a folder on his desk and told him that there was no deal because we had come several times and we weren’t going to buy. He raised his voice and aggressively told us to leave and proceeded to get heated and trying to take out his anger out on us by telling us that our dead grandfather’s car was worth less than the pen he held in his hand.. THEY HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ARE EXTREMELY RUDE AND INCONSIDERATE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. My family had the worst experience negotiating a car deal in over 20 years with these people. We’ve bought Nissan cars many times before and loved them. My grandfather died and we wanted to trade his car in for a new one for my grandmother in order to take advantage of the ‘clunker government deal.’ This dealership feels that because currently they have higher demand due to the government incentive they can treat the customer like they are worthless. I hope they begin to think about the way they treat people when the government incentive is over and their dealerships are up against a dwindling economy once more. If you want to buy NISSAN then go to WOODFIELD or any other location. DO NOT GO BUY FROM MCGRATH IN ELGIN.
RATING SHOULD BE ZERO FOR ALL FIELDS. OVERALL SCORE = 0 !
stay away…
