These people are either dishonest or incompetent, we took our 2007 ES 350 because it wouldn’t start. They ran some tests and told us we needed a new battery and a new alternator, this on a car less than 5 years old and with less than 30,000 miles. No one in the service department questioned the need for a new alternator.
We were quoted $1150 to replace it. Now everyone knows dealerships are more expensive but our local Foreign Car Repair shop quoted $650, I think almost double is a bit rude. We took the Lexus to our our local guy and he changed the battery and retested the alternator, it tested fine.
We then contacted SCL and told them the results. M. Brownell sent a copy of the print out test for the alternator showing it was not charging, it also showed a time/date stamp FOUR DAYS prior to the date we took our car to SCL. We took it back to SCL and they re-tested it in front of us, it now tested fine.
The Service Manager, Dave Gee told us, someone must have made a mistake. Had this been my 70 year old mother or many other people, they would have just had them fix it and would have been cheated out of $1150. I think it is interesting that most service departments work on Commission, anyone else see a connection?
I have an unusual situation.
First I was pleased to have a loaner car made available right away and pleased that they run your car through a car wash when you need service.
In today’s case however service was miserable.
I took in a 2007 IS 250 with under 6,000 miles, the rear tire blew out on the freeway. I called service on Monday made an appointment for 8am Tuesday.
They were going to have to see the tire then replace it.
I wanted to wait for this to be done but they told me their tire specialist does not get in until 930 I would have to take a car on loan and come back later.
They called back around 11 am only to tell me they do not cover tires period. As soon as you drive off the lot you are on your own as far as Lexus is concerned.
So they went on to say for $385 plus installation they can put a new tire on, and they also suggest buying alignment service considering it just had a blow out.
I asked about the warranty, my sales person Drew went on to tell me they do not cover tires in any way.
I asked even though I bought the 100,000 “bumper to bumper warranty?”. Answer correct.
So I am wondering why they asked me to bring it down in the first place other than to try to sell me new tires and take a few hours of my day for the pleasure.
I went to pick up the car and found my own way to a bridgestone dealer, no thanks to my Lexus dealership.
They called the Bridgestone from me at the Bridgestone dealer (tire store). They did manage to sell me the same tire for 1/2 the cost, Bridgestone said considering the inspection shows no wear on the tire and that it blew out, they’ll cover 1/2 of the replacement.
The replacement cost is $265 (retail) of that I pay 1/2 plus installation in the end it amounts to just over $170.
So in summary I honestly believe Lexus only brought me in to spend time and to try to sell me an overpriced tire.
On top of that when I was at the tire place they advised my spare was about 20Lbs low. I suggested it was just at Lexus for the last four hours don’t they even check the tires? The question is rhetorical but suffice it to say this dealership quits after making the sale.
If other dealerships treat you better for service or do a little bit for you. I suggest another.
They are just not very honest and do not care at Park Place Lexus.
Always ask for Melissa, she is unusually knowlegable, pleasant and professional.
