I just want to put out there that I had an exceptional buying experience from Lewis Toyota. As soon as I showed up to the dealer, i was greeted promptly. I found the vehicle that I wanted, I got the financing that I wanted, and the car was delivered to me clean and full of gas. I highly recommend Lewis Toyota.
Negotiating was painful. I told them what I would pay in cash the moment I finished the test drive. An hour later and five visits to the sales manager, they finally agreed with me. I almost walked out. The total time from testdrive to purchase was about 3 hours. While this may not seem long, I was a cash buyer. It was a simple transaction that took 45 minutes a month earlier when I purchase a car for myself at another dealership.
Also when I pulled up, two salesmen got into a five minute cussing match over whose customer I was. Talk about feeling stalked.
After the purchase the lady handling the paperwork did not send us what we needed to register in Missouri. She was then quite rude and unhelpful. Only after my wife was nearly in tears did she finally fax over the correct paperwork.
They had the specific car I wanted for my wife, so I bought from them. If I had found that car anywhere else, I would not have given them my business. I would recommend driving to KC and buying from Molle Toyota where I purchase my other vehicle from. It was a night and day experience for me.
just curious. It looks like you contacted the internet department first. why didn’t you continue to work with them? Schedule an appointment, lay out your expectations for the meeting etc..?
I tried. The “internet manager” took usually more than a day to respond to my emails. He didn’t respond to most of my questions, just tried to get me to come in. Then when I scheduled with him to come in, he had something come up that day and wasn’t there. Then the fighting between the salesreps ensued. I tried providing details in my emails to him, but it was clear he ignored them. I had a trade and provided my VIN so they could look it up before I got there. Of course no one seemed to know about the trade and it took 30 minutes for them to look up what it was worth.
With Molle Toyota in KC, where I purchased a car a month prior, I fully negotiated online. I showed up, test drove the car, wrote the check, and left 45 minutes after I arrived. Literally night and day difference between the two. I don’t know if it is because Topeka is a small market and they are “the” Toyota dealership. They definitely were not consumer friendly. It was still the old four square, bureaucratic “let me talk to my sales manager” negotiation process. I know some people just give up and take what they are offered. It didn’t work for me at all.
