I brought my ’98 4Runner in for a typical repair. The exterior hatch handle is made of plastic. It cracked and then broke so the hatch will not open. I asked them if they can fix it. The guy said they can fix ANYTHING, they are the dealer. They charge me $100 to look at it and then tell me its going to be expensive, but they promise to apply the $100 to my repair bill if I get it fixed. As an example, the service guy tells me that last week a 2004 Sequoia was repaired with the same problem and it cost around $300. After looking at my handle for an hour, they shoot me a repair estimate of around $980. I feel like I just got robbed of $100. I should have asked them if they WANTED to fix my hatch handle….because its obvious that they do not. I ordered the part for $66 from another dealer and I’ll install it myself. Sure wish I had never paid JIM NORTON TOYOTA any money at all.
This will be the last time I deal with JNT. Eight years ago I picked up a Mazda truck from their used lot. I ended up paying much more than I should and got railroaded by the financing department. I should have learned my lesson but since I am in the market for a new truck (Tacoma) I e-mailed them to see what they had. I went in for a test drive and learned they did not have what I wanted on the lot but found one at a dealer out of state. They could get it but it would be at a premium for them. They wouldn’t budge on the price at all. After being hounded by my sales rep by phone and e-mail for a few weeks (a nice guy but it seemed he was trying to hit a quota) I finally just lied and told him I got a different car. What I really did was go down the road to the other Toyota dealer and ordered what I wanted for $2000 less. Never again!!
High pressure, deceptive practices, no help once they have your money.
I purchased a used 3-year old vehicle from this dealership a few months ago. The purchase experience was unbelievable, they had 3 different prices listed on the car (internet and sales floor) and used each one to negotiate with depending on how they saw the deal going. At one point they put my offer on hold to see if they could get a better offer from someone else!! There is a LOT more to this experience that is truely unbelivable – never been through this type of car buying tactics before and I have purchased a lot cars over the past 40 years!
The car was equipped with push button start and only required a key fob to start. When asked about the keys required to lock the glove box and open the truck I was told to go to any dealer (this was not a Toyota) to get the keys made and get a second key fob. They would reimburse me right away – two + months later still have not received the $200 for the keys/fob (BTW – it’s not easy to get keys to a car without paperwork, title, etc).
How about the absolute clincher – I haven’t had the opportunity to drive the car that much because it’s been in the shop for numerous engine repairs. I got myself a 3-year old, 17k mile LEMON!! RUN, don’t walk, away from this dealership!
Have used this dealership for approx 3 years to service my Camry and Tundra. I have now moved to another dealership. Always pressured with upsell work, some of it very expensive, and on several occassions never fixed my original problem. In one case with my Camry, had it several times for same problem, they talked down to my wife when she tried to explain the problem. Best of all – after warranty ran out – you guessed it – they found the problem! Needless to say I took it to another dealer who was able to get it fixed under warranty. I would RUN, don’t walk, away from this dealership.
I’ve had to deal with JNT on several occasions over the years – in the early 90s I owned a Celica and have a Corrolla now. In the interim I’ve owned a Honda and Saturn – both for which dealership service was impeccable. For each of the Toyota’s on the other hand, I could expect to be run around and given diagnoses for unnecessary service work (based on feedback from a second opinion). I have no idea why Toyota has such a good service reputation, the service provided from Jim Norton Toyota certainly isn’t contributing to it.
Made up fake problems to run the bill up
