It’s in the title; but it’s worth stating again: I had an excellent experience buying from Honda of Keene. I’m a recent college graduate with no credit (other than student loans that will kick in soon) and a junk car (well, not anymore!). When I first got to the dealership, I walked in with my guard up. After all, we’ve all heard the dealership horror stories; and this was my first time stepping foot in one. Fortunately, my experience was the furthest thing from a nightmare.
I did my research ahead of time, as any car buyer should — vehicle pricing, financing options, car specs/reviews, comparing new vs. used, etc (Edmunds.com is great for those things). Although I collected an arsenal of information, I never felt like I had to rely on it in a defensive way. It was nice to have the information to reference though; it definitely helped me feel confident and in control of the buying experience.
I don’t have a whole lot of time, so I’ll sum up my feelings in this way: If I ever do find out that I was cheated, screwed over, or deceived in any way, I’ll be completely shocked. I’m pretty good at reading people, paying attention to detail, and analyzing things thoroughly; and I’d be surprised if they slipped something past me.
As far as I’m concerned, they were open, honest, and understanding with me. There was no pressure (other than pointing out the fact that the car I was interested in would sell quickly if I waited too long to decide; which I verified through other sources… the car I wanted was back-ordered, and the only reason one was available the day I walked in was the person who back-ordered it got tired of waiting, so he/she backed out of the order).
Not only was the salesman friendly, thorough, honest, and informative; but the business manager was the same. There’s quite a lot of paperwork involved with a new car, especially in deciding on features, coverage, options, etc. The business manager, Donald McKinley, made sure to go through everything in detail with no pressure, no confusion, and no hidden elements. In fact, at one point I was a little lost with how a certain number added up; and instead of trying to rush me through or breeze over it, he actually stopped me in my tracks and made sure I had a clear understanding of what was going on before we continued.
I got the car for its true market value (Edmunds.com), an interest rate below national average (Bankrate.com), and a car that was accurately advertised and presented to me (Google is great for verifying the claims of the salesman/dealership).
Overall, great experience. I would definitely recommend this dealership to anyone, even new buyers. They know how to put the customer first, and that’s what’s important.
If I ever discover that I was slighted on anything, you can guarantee I’ll update this review. So long as this text stays as is, my recommendation stands. 😎
